Apple AirPort Time Capsule - 2TB $329, 3TB $399 @ DSE

70

Apple Airport Time Capsule 2 and 3TB is $20 cheaper in Dick Smith.

On top of that I used $10 off SUMMER10 code (which expired yesterday) and bought a 2TB for $319 (click & collect). I'm sure DSE will put out another discount code soon.

Airport Time Capsule 2TB is $349 in other major retailers:

  • Does anyone know if I buy one of these for work will it automatically backup iPhone and iPad devices whilst connected via Wi-Fi?

    • I don't believe so, not unless you use either iTunes to perform the backups or simply want to backup the data to iCloud using the Time Capsules wireless network (which could be achieved with any router).

I don't believe the iPhone/iPad can directly backup or sync to the Time Capsule without iTunes and in turn a PC being in place to actually perform the backup/sync duties.

For my home network I lave iTunes running with WiFI sync enabled on my devices, and my laptop in turn gets backed up every 15 minutes to the Time Capsule using the OS X Time Machine function. You may be able to cut out the Time Machine backups and simply have iTunes designate the network drive as the library and/or backup location.

  • Yes. You can read the full feature list at https://www.apple.com/au/airport-time-capsule/

Connect to Wi‑Fi from any device.
Mac. PC. iPhone. iPad. Apple TV. Really, any Wi-Fi-enabled device you have will work with AirPort Time Capsule. That’s because it’s compatible with devices using the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n and 802.11ac specifications.

    • I assume you're responding to the previous question, in which case the Time Capsule is only providing network access to those devices, not backup capabilities. To back up he'll need a PC running iTunes or do it to iCloud, in which case the files aren't going to end up on the Time Capsule.

Thanks for the clarification @Smigit. I didn't know that.

Got one via price guarantee with OW for 322 - had to pay the $9.95 delivery but happy with 322

  • How do these compare to other 3tb Hard Drives
