  • This is actually a pretty good deal.

Cheapest price they offered me was $760

Ended up buying the U2715H for $649

    • +1

Should of got the U2515H for $415.

      • If purchased on Gold/Platinum credit card, request refund of difference under price garauntee.
Dell also have like a two week satisfaction garauntee.

      • +5

Should *of - should have or should've

        • +2

          shouldntveof

      • +5

I considered it, but I like the extra 2"

Makes me feel like more of a man

  • +2

If I didn't need to upgrade my computer to run it, I'd be all over this :)

  • The price is really good, tempted but don't see the point to move to 4k yet and my UH2713HM is still going strong…

  • It should be noted you can get it cheaper locally at a few places
    http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=P2715Q&spos…

But I would personally pay the bit extra for service and support direct from Dell.

  • +2

Anyone know of what the input lag is like? I have a philips 28" 4k and the input lag is around 60ms which is just s$*t for gaming..

    • -1

i dont know the exact specs but given that the U2715H is more than 1 frame already (i think its nearly 2) i dont think this will be any better than that.

this is why it is hard to find IPS panels for gaming that are 1440p or above.
i ended up going with 3 of the Samsung S27D850. Had the same input lag as the Asus PB278q but looks much nicer and thinner bezels.

    • I bought it a few months ago and it's got a variable response rate of either 6ms or 9ms. I game and it's fine for it.

  • +2

Someone please buy this for me. I'll die with happiness then you can have it after I die.

    • +3

      Sounds like a deadly deal

  • Oddly, the tech spec doesn't list the full colour gamut info.

    • +1

99% RGB in Dell product description page:

      Nearly perfect color accuracy.
You can count on natural and consistent color across different mediums because each monitor is factory tuned at 99% sRGB with a color calibration factory report certifying that each monitor has a deltaE < 3.

  • Is there further discount for education purposes?

    • +1

The education discount will override the current discount resulting in a higher price.

  • Would anyone know if a Asus ATI RADEON 6950 2GB can power this monitor?

  • +3

oh ffs people. 4K is not for gaming, unless you're prepared to spend another $2k on video cards.
    It's for work, multi-tasking, and 4K video.

    • +1

Well, you could get 2x290 for around 600-700 bucks, and the 3xx series will be released soon which will hopefully do 4k at a reasonable framerate.

2k is a bit far fetched.

  • Will this monitor work fine with a 13" Macbook Pro 2013 model? I want it for photo editing and word processing / internet etc.

Or is the other 25" dell monitor better suited for a macbook?

A bit new to monitor specs so any help would be good. Thanks.

    • If you are gonna get this and using hdmi, you have only get 30hz at 4k instead of 60hz.

The dell u2515h is similar resolution to the retina on the macbooks so if you like that kind of resolution on a bigger screen, then get that instead. Not entirely sure how much Hz hdmi on a macbook can support 1440p.

      • +1

        Thanks for the response.

Yeah am leaning towards the 25" now. Very good price for what seems to be a great monitor.

Was actually just reading about how to connect the a laptop to a monitor and all the different cables. Was doing my head in! I was planning on just using a hdmi but then read some reports that it doesn't go over 1080p. It takes a Display port so not sure if that's better? But Hz is something else to look at!

    • +1

You can get a max refresh rate of 52Hz at 4K via the mini-DP cable on the 2013 rMBP 13". There are posts on forums on what you need to do to get it. Let me know if you want and I'll dig it out for you. I personally cannot see a difference between 60Hz and 52Hz. Getting a 4K monitor will future proof your purchase.

      • Yeah please post the forum with info. Cheers.

    • No you need the 15" to support 4K externally via mDP

      • +1

No. The 13" can do 4K via mini DP via a third party program. Mac refresh 52Hx instead of 60. Difference imperceptible to my eyes

        • Ahh ok. Must be something very recent since my set up in August

    • I have it and I use it with my Mac 13".
To get 4k you need to use a hdmi and it'll run at 30fps.
However you won't want to use this with a Mac at 4k.
I run it with a display port at 2k at 60fps and it works brilliantly.

      • +1

Have a look at the screencap below. It is the parameters on SwitchRes in my 2013 rMBP 13" that I used to make a custom resolution.

With the 2013 rMPB 13" the P2715Q is limited to 4K@30Hz via HDMI, 1440p@60Hz via either mini-DP or HDMI. It can be coaxed into displaying 4K at a maximum of 52Hz via mini-DP. Try and get it working, much nicer images.

  • I'm holding out for 30"-32" 4K, I have a 27" 1440p monitor, and it is already sharp as hell, any higher res would be such overkill, you will be squinting. Even for gaming 1440p and 27" is overkill, I often find myself lowering res to 1080p in competitive games like BF4 and Counter Strike, because it makes it easier to spot and head shot with bigger targets, at 1440p 27" everything is too small lol.

    • +1

You would need a pretty powerful graphics card to power this 4K display on the latest triple A games.

1440p seems decent at 27", maybe 4k for 32" in above. Seems even 15" laptops come with a 4k display these days, seems so overkill.

I wish companies would focus on the quality of the panel rather than the resolution numbers which trick people into thinking its quality.

      • I doubt my crossfire 290x would complain if I threw 4K at it :)

I am with you on the quality of the panel, I consider it far more important than 4K.

Hence my 60" plasma, which is currently not being used due to warm weather lol.

    • You need to use HiDPI modes, at least in Mac. 1080p size graphics and fonts but at twice the resolution

  • 4k for a monitor is bit expensive

I'm using one of these at work as of a few weeks ago. If you work with photos these are amazing, the amount of detail is simply incredible. It's really a great screen, and if you have a powerful machine I think it'd be awesome. For gaming you would probably be best to run games in Full HD res (1920x1080) unless you have spent $1800 on video cards in the past year or so. It can also do QHD res (2560 x 1440) quite nicely, so this would be another option for gaming without requiring the grunt of 4k.

Unfortunately there are a few downsides to running in 4K, at least on Windows 7:

    • You'll need to run it in 200% DPI text scaling, or use a magnifying glass to read anything. So you'll fit about the same amount on screen as a Full HD screen would - but text will be smoother.
    • Unfortunately some text will be very fine, and it can give you a bit of a headache coping with the varieties of fine and bold text even within a single application like Outlook.
    • Images in your emails will appear twice as large on other peoples screens, as images aren't accounted for in the 200% DPI scaling of text.
    • Some window and panel resizing controls seem to be about 1 pixel wide and impossible to find. Since going from 32 bit windows to 64 bit windows 7, and from Office 2010 to Office 2013 this seems to be improved.
    • Remote desktop sessions may support DPI text scaling, win 2008 server needs a hotfix and my IT dept isn't rushing to do anything about it. You can run other remote desktop apps to scale full hd at 2x but it all looks a bit blurry. Setting sharpness from 50 to 60 helps, but having to change sharpness each time you go in/out of remote desktop is impractical.
    • A built in video card like an Intel HD 4400 or 4600 is largely insufficient to run these in any pleasing way. It runs at 60hz but the screen just can't be redrawn frequently enough with so many pixels to draw, so despite the refresh rate, the real draw rate is much lower … maybe 15 fps for full screen scrolling in a web browser. With a dedicated video card I expect performance would be better. Finding the real life frame rate so low, I have discovered that IE 11 renders much quicker than Firefox or Chrome, which was surprising to me. At Full HD res I never noticed a difference. So now I'm using IE 11 to get the extra rendering speed, but that means I'm using IE 11…
    • Your system will make use of more free memory. A 4GB ram laptop running Windows 7 32bit started swapping to disk a lot, after moving to this 4K monitor. I had to add an 8GB stick and install 64 bit Windows to make use of > 4GB ram. Now it's running smoothly again.

So to sum up, if I had the money (I don't) I might get one of these at home because my desktop i7 CPU and GTX 770 could probably run it fast enough for desktop applications, but at work I wish I'd gone with an Ultrawide 2560 x 1080 29" monitor or just stayed with dual 24 inch screens instead. Life was simpler in mere full HD.

      Nice post

    • +1

Great write up man. Won't get this from anywhere except someone who used this and is from a technical background. I am saving this text for future reference. The monitor is so tempting but I may postpone for another 2 years after reading this.

I currently use dual 2407WFP at home and the Visidec Focus dual monitor arm sucks at these heavy monitors. Not easy to adjust the height and the very thick monitor means it's also very hard (the "lever" effect) for the "swirl" near the VESA mount to hold the 5 degree up angle I am comfortable with.

The Dell MSA14 Mounting kit seems a much better choice and I may get this to try out. Maybe 2 years later on I might change to single 27" or 30" ultra HD :-)

  • Have a late 2013 imac 27" with a 4gb nvidia video card.. any idea if the card will be able to run this? also will they line up side by side?

  • I'm very close to pulling the trigger on this badboy. When I bought my new rig, I planned to go 4k (2x 970's in SLI) I just haven't got a monitor yet. Was ideally waiting on a 4k IPS with G-Sync, but who knows when we'll see it… So I might just bite the bullet on this.

  • good one. but i don't know for this size can you tell the difference between 2K and 4K screen..

  • nice find, just ordered one. Anyone know of a good monitor arm stand for the 27" + 2x 23"?

Go the QNIX Evolution II instead. Same panels. Half the price. Over-clocked at 96hz. Can't lose. For gaming that is….

    • +2

How is the QNIX Evolution II the same panel when it's 2560x144 resolution?

      • Correct. Maybe he was mislead by their "virtual 4k" marketing crap. This Dell has 2.25x the resolution (8.3mp vs 3.7mp).

The panel scales the 4k source back down to 2560x1440, making it blurry in the process.

  • Purchased. Ideally I wanted 4k with IPS & G-Sync, but no idea when we'll see it in Australia. I've got a feeling maybe q4 personally. So if / when that's released I might just sell this monitor. But until then, this will do just fine :)

    • +1

yep, I was waiting for some g-sync as well…and maybe an increase in GPU performance so I didn't need a SLI config. But will just try using my GTX970, can't wait forever

      • I actually have 970's in SLI.. I built my new system at the start of the year with the intention of going 4k. More for work TBH, but was like, if I'm going to get a 4k monitor might as well have the GPU Power to back it up in games :)

As for a 4k IPS G-Sync monitor, all I could find is the Asus PG27AQ, however it's not even been announced officially. So I get the feeling we are probably looking at a Q4 release at the earliest.. and probably starting price of about $1k. So when it is released if it's any good and upgrade over the Dell, I might sell the Dell and pick up the Asus.

  • Just got a delivery notice. Original estimation was Thursday 26th. Now it's Wednesday 4th. Long anxious wait :)

  • +2

Has anyone received their monitors yet?

    • Nope not yet, still waiting zzzz

    • +1

I received mine on Wednesday 4 March, but there were issue with the overall monitor. There is a black dot behind the screen (not a dead pixel) and the center of the screen are very yellowish. The overall quality was bad. I've contacted their support and emailed the original sales guy the issues with photos, but no one has gotten back to me yet.

The monitor is no longer on dell's website, it seems like they have discontinued the monitor or there are some major defects with it which force them to take it off from ordering.

      • Interesting.. Thanks for feedback. They sold a but load of these in the USA. So I'm sure if there was a major defect with them it would've been reported by multiple people. Still havent got mine yet, i'll post feedback when I get it.

    • +1

      I received mine last Tuesday.

Using it with the late 2013 15 Macbook pro retina.

Very nice screen. It's sharp and works straight out of the box.

      No problems so far :)

  • I sent an email to dell as I have not had any updates since my ETA of 26/02/15:

    Response:

      Another update from dell:

The details of your order are as follows:
Customer PO Number Dell Order(s) Number Total Amount (incl GST) Estimated Delivery Date
      ????? AUD 711.00 2015-04-15

That's like 8 weeks since I purchased it!

      • I got this too! You think they'll be able to give a refund?

        • No idea, but I was thinking of requesting one too to be honest. Unfortunately I also bought a speakerbar to go with it, which has already been delivered. So not sure if they'll pick that up and refund it as well. Pretty disappointing.

  • I got mine refunded. You should try and ask, no harm done

    • +1

Just got another email from dell:

As I check and confirm with production team that Your order for a monitor is pending under production
Team due to part shortage .

The estimated delivery time will be end of April or early of May.
But still we will do our best to monitor on the progress and if we manage to get the replacement part earlier then we will help to expedite the shipment for you .

Kindly let me know if you wish to wait or request to cancel and refund you back the money .
      Thanks

      • The annoying thing is, I don't think there's another monitor on the market that interest me outside of paying 2x price.

        • That's bad luck man.

Maybe by that time something cheaper will come out.

Just keep your eyes peeled for something and when you find it, you can can this monitor.

That's absolutely ridiculous! I would be fuming by now!
