Xbox 360 Arcade + Forza 3 - $199

330

Granted it's only an Arcade, but for $199 it's a bargain! it's not in stock on the online store, however if you check the bundle contents, some stores have stock of the individual items, and should be able to do the bundle!

(Btw, it says Halo in the title of the item on DSE, but it's not included in the bundle contents, so i don't think it actually comes with Halo)

  • hell yeah…out of stock? can you get this in shop?

    • NB: This product is only available to personal shoppers at the Retail Stores. This product is not available from the Online Store.

      Shop Online:
      Out of Stock

This item is unavailable for online shipping

  • If you read the site, basically when you click "Pack includes" it shows the individual items, both the game & the console are available in quiet a few stores, and when you click the bundle discount, basically it says it's not available separately and to check in store, so i'd assume if you took the codes in they should be able to do it… (i hope!) … i'll check first thing tomorrow morning and post up what the go is, as im planning on getting this myself.

  • Is this gettable in DSE stores? (those that have stock of both)

It's not some kind of error right?

  • sweet..

will check it out tomorrow as well

can someone tell me what xbox arcade version 1 is?

    what is the current version?

    • +2

Didn't think my comment was worth a deal unto itself:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/18124#comment-113804

      Well, 6 people think otherwise.

    • Old Arcade Pack

      • 5 in 1 arcade game pack only
      • External 256mb memory card
      • Xenon console revision - NO HDMI port (pre september 2007)
      • Falcon console revision - HDMI port (post october 2007)
      • older model console, more likely to RROD or E74

      Latest Arcade Pack

      • 5 in 1 arcade games and Sega Superstars Tennis games.
      • Falcon Revision - 256mb Exteral memory card
      • Jasper Revision - 256mb internal memory
      • HDMI port
      • Less likely to RROD or E74 in latest Jasper model console revision
  • UPDATE: Looks like this deal has just been removed from the DSE web site. It was definately there before 8am today but after 8am its no longer available.

  • Damn. Must be a price error.

  • Hmm, link is still up… http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/en/product/YG11…

Maybe the DSE rep can confirm this one for us?

    • I called up and the deal is indeed valid. But you'll be hard pressed to find a store that has the older arcade in stock which is actually the item on promotion here.

I called a couple of stores which the website shows the older arcade as available, but they said they don't have it in either. It'll be best if you called you local store asap to score this fantastic bargain!

  • +1

    I phoned 2 Dick Smiths.

Forza 3 & Xbox Arcade version 1 (no HDMI) $199
    Forza 3 & Xbox Arcade version 2 (HDMI) $288

  • The consoles have suffered RROD and are repaired consoles, no HDMI.

  • +2

Hrmm… if thats the case, you may well be better off going for the $349 Xbox 360 Elite Holiday Pack & Forza 3, because it's not a whole amount more if you need HDMI, and you get the bonus of having a 120GB HDD, and also the HDD is apparently required for the 2nd disc of Forza 3, im not sure why tho.

    • I agree

    • disc 2 has 1.9gb of maps and assorted data

    • This deal is great for those who don't care about a hard drive and HDMI and for those who just want a console for games (and don't care about saving demos, videos, copying games to hard drive, etc) or for those wanting a cheap media extender.

    • yes use it to price match like i did if no consoles around, you may not get free games but you get a newer manufactured console

  • So can anyone confirm that the Xbox 360 in question is a repaired model, more likely to RROD and does NOT have HDMI?

My dad bought one for me already and was told its an ex-demo model… at work so I can't check the details till I get home.

In the event that it is the crap version of the Xbox 360, will I be able to return it to DSE or can I go in and try to exchange the model in question for the newer ones?

    Thanks everyone!

    • they cant sell you a refurbished model and claim its new. if you think it has been opened return it back.

      • unless Microsoft allows them to ? It would still be sealed and everything, only sign would be the Model Info + barcode sticker would have been updated on the old box info ….

        • i doubt microsoft are stupid enough to run afoul of consumer protection groups, but i guess if they made it clear to DSE, then DSE should pass this info on.

    • This model doesn't have HDMI. The HDMI bundle is $288 instead of $199. If you exchange it for a newer model they'll likely charge you the difference.

The Powerhouse store I phoned have 5 crap versions in stock. They said they are new.

  • im going to grab one.. for $199 its cheaper than any other media center extender
i just bought a jasper model last week!
once i sell the controller and forza 3 it will probably be closer to $120 total.

  • I wad told by 2 DSE staff that it is a repaired RROD console that has been resealed as new with new 1 year warranty and 3 years RROD warranty.

    • Thats dodgy!!!! How do we know if its been refurbished or not? Don't want to be stuck with a problematic console

  • I picked one up guys!

It's brand new. Includes arcade and forza 3.

How do I check what version it is?

    • does it have a HDMI port?

  • I'm not opening it yet until I know how I can check via barcodes or whatever… searching google now :)

  • well, whats the manufacturing date, i tihnk june 07 was the date they started HDMI, falcon or whatever. dont quote me

  • 12,1A Jasper baby :)

Where do I find the manufacturing date?

    • Did you pay $199 or $288?

  • $199 :D

    • +1

      Nice!

      • I know hey! such a score…

now is there a way to find out if it's got a HDMI port without actually opening the pack? or do all 12,1A consoles have HDMI ports also?

        • +1

Not really… but if it says 12.1A on the back of a console, it's a Jasper and therefore has HDMI. You got a bargain. :)

          • @MrGareth: Yay :)

So all Jaspers have HDMI? There aren't some that don't?

            Thanks SiriX!!!

  • I just ordered one of http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/4aee2b6a07e6c77… from my local store, in stock, verified for $349. bargain for an Elite!

    • Its going to a Falcon or older unit…

I've been at several stores, looking at the boxes…

      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1310839&r…

I Like the comment from HDCM sums up the situation… (see the link aove)

The Arcade for $200 is worth the risk… Forza is $71.50, Controller around $60…. makes the console itself worth $70… Definitely worth the risk..

At $349 the elite is worth Forza $71.50, Controller around $60, Indy / Kungfu panda $1, HDD around $70 (retail is around $180) Cables around $30… valueing the bare console at around $117.50..
(or the console with controller at around $177.50)

      I'd rather get a Forza 3 + Elite pack for $399 and get a jasper unit for $50 more…

or even the the $206.80 arcade pack (Jasper) using the tradeins at ebgames) and a Dealextreme 120gb HDD, $62.04 USD) and and the HIDef cables around $10USD

Especially bad if you are going to mod the console.. given the loss of warranty and high risk of failure..

  • Applebyte- which store did you get it from?

  • +1

For those wondering, from my preliminary research, Falcons say 14, 2A just above where it says "Made in China." Jaspers say 12, 1A.

All revisions of Jasper and Falcon have HDMI.

Jasper is better than Falcon because its newer, quieter and uses less power, thus, less likely to RRoD.

I might be wrong, if so, please feel free to correct me.

I found out I got the Falcon model - should I go back and try to get a Jasper?

    • No, you are right…. I have both a Falcon and Jasper unit, and you are completely correct for both.

If you can replace it for a Jasper, then do it - but if they won't let you, don't stress too much about it.

      • My Elite is a Falcon (Last of the Falcons actually) and from what i've researched, even tho there are differences, ultimately since the Falcon has been out, there's been a lot less RROD cases, ie. a dramatic drop, so basically as long as you've got a Falcon or Jasper, you should be fine.

Deal been available for quite a while.. but not advertised widely…

Spent the last three days trying to track down a console in Melbourne..

    that wasn't
    1) Broken
    2) Built in 2006.. yes two of DSE had the demo console built in 2006..

Ideally would have taken a Falcon.. but obviously wanted a jasper.. no luck…

The Elite 08 holiday bundle. as basically all falcons or earlier…. (high risk RROD)..
as as the Pro 08 holiday bundles.. (high risk or RROD).

Many of the high end bundles appear "new" but very old stock…

The Jasper units.. were found in the ELite and pro units in the late 2008/ Early 2009… (due to the slow turnover of high end machines) these units on special were basically for the holiday 2008 period (or the lead up to christmas 2008)..

Ended up going for the Gear of War pack with Forza. $349… 60gb, Hidef component cable Gear of War 1 and 2, and Forza 3. Made sure it was a Jasper unit before purchasing… (which it was)..

P.S. It appear that NSW has much more stock than Victoria…

  • new user here. but check here often.

i just picked up a new model elite price matched for $349 from EB and with Forza 3
I based it on the holiday pack pricing.

any local DSE's here only had the version 1 arcades that they confirmed had no HDMI. EB said it would match the arcade model. i went in and said would they match the elite for 349. and got one thats manufactured in september, so its relatively new compared to an 08 holiday pack console that could be 10 months old.

i worked out id spend around $130 to get the xbox live starter pack to get the cheaper deal on 60GB hdd, live headset etc, and id have to wait for that and still end up with an arcade and $20-$30 less.

i txtd my brother in regards to the 60gb gears pack or elite pack, he said try to get an elite over gears pack an i agree, i use to own first gen xbox 360 when they released and have played gears 1 heaps, played a bit of gears 2, but would get more use out of 120gb to load games on with that new dvd spinning save feature.

anyway, great deal and im sure using DSE site for references others can do some price matching like others have done here.

THIS $199 DEAL IS SOLD OUT AND SHOULD BE MARKED BY ADMINS AS SUCH

  • Its not sold out - its just not available online

    • What he ^^^ said

  • Springwood (Qld) Dick smith still have two old ones in stock, and I just managed to get EB at springwood to match it and the oldest arcade they had in stock was an april 09, so it looks like I scored a jasper. They weren't exactly happy about it and kept trying to suggest I buy one of their "specials" instead but they did it. Garden city wouldn't match springwood as there was an EB closer.

  • What and effort! My GPS kept taking me to the wrong location. I spent an hour driving around Springwood until I phoned and found out the store is actually in Slacks Creak :(

It's a Christmas pressie for someone who hasn't a clue about HDMI, Jaspers, Falcons etc. I have a spare HD cable they can have. It says 12, 1A above the made in China. It has a 2007 build date.

Someone said Forza 3 requires a hard drive. Is this true?

    • you need hard drive to install forza 3 disc 2 (it can't be run directly off the dvd), in order to get all the cars and customisations.

    • I carefully took it out of the box.

I was going to do a system update before I wrap it up for xmas. I thought it was an old 2007 model because the serial ended with xxxxxxxx2007.

The build date is 2009-05-14 and it does have HDMI.

  • Called 2 stores for canberra:

Canberra center powerhouse has a lot of them.
Canberra City walk DSE has one console left with no forza 3, but they will receive some copies by the end of this week.

The manager said if they don't run out of it first, the deal will be off 20th this month.

Note: Ebgame trade in forza 3 for $65 credit. JB-hifi trade in only for $40 credit.

The one I bought off City Walk DSE had manufacturing date is 09/08 and its a falcon (14,2a). I'm not sure what the dvd-drive actually is, but im guessing its a liteon

I'll get one from Canberra Center tomorrow and post the manufacturing date.

    Hope this helps

    • i think game does straight trades for forza for other games. provided theyre sealed?

      • i don't know about straight trades. I did not want games anyway (I already have plenty). I will try to sell the $65 credit for $55.

  • i got mine from seven hills store in nsw
its a 1/9/08 build date 14,2a so its a falcon
    its got hdmi
perfect for a media centre extender!

  • ive had 3 360 consoles over the last 3 years.
one original version 2. it RROD.
a falcon 08 console. it RROD recently.
and now i got the arcade HDMI jasper. its noticeably quieter. and uses the liteon drive. the liteon drive is a new move for xbox so if it has a liteon drive, HDMI, the smaller power pack and the lower wattage its the jasper which "should not RROD".
but i wouldnt buy a Falcon console as it might RROD regardless of being revised. but for $200 its worth the gamble. but the other DSE deal going on with the elite looks better

  • oh and you know DSE is just trying to move the old falcon units as the RRP of the arcade jasper is 199USD. convert that to our dollar and its under $220 for the jasper. so they are kinda trying hard to shift the old units.

  • Got the 2nd Xbox arcade deal from the Canberra Center Powerhouse.

Had my friend collect it, but the manager screwed him.He pretty much pretended not to know what my friend was talking about and gave him an xbox that was used for display for $250, a 2006 model..

I fcking raged went all the way back there (esp. since I fcking called yesterday and spent 30minutes explaining what i wanted over the phone - same manager i suppose, was then pretendng he did not know wtf i was talking about and that there swas no such deal, and only after i f*cking gave him the exact web link he THEN suddenly knew about the promo - and they said they'd hold one for me), and exchange the xbox for the proper deal. Was refunded the money + got an arcade 12,1a jasper with manufacturing date 04/09.

  • Anyone know if a DSE in adelaide have any of these left?

  • Rang around a heap of DSE's in Brisbane and the only place that had one left was DSE Elizabeth st. The guy talked me out of it saying it was prone to RROD so I used the store for a price match at EB, got a jasper mfr 16/4/09. Stoked.

    • do they ask about what version DSE is offering when price matching?

I might go into EB tomorrow and try price match, any tips before going in regards to questions or models etc?

      • model is arcade. that's all you need to know, that's all THEY need to know :)

        • do i need to bring a print out of the webpage?
what about version 1 and 2?

          thanks

          • @impoze: dw about the version 1 or 2. All the guys from EBGames need to know is that a brand new arcade xbox 360 is being sold with Forza 3 for $199. Most of the employees don't even know the specific models. As far as they are concerned, an xbox 360 arcade is an xbox 360 arcade.

Bring the webpage print out, but only show them if they're not convinced about the DSE deal.

            • @ameel: First (DSE website):

              Version 1:
              A$249
              * Xbox™ 360 Console, 256MB Memory Card
              * Wireless Controller
              * 5 games - incl. Pac Man Champ Ed & Uno
              * Xbox™ live silver subscription

              Version 2:
              A$298
              * Xbox 360 Console
              * 256Mb Memory Card built in
              * Wireless controller
              * XBOX live silver subscription
              * AV cables

The only difference I can see between the 2 versions from above (taken from DSE website) is that Version 1 is cheaper, contains 5 games, external memory card, while version 2 is more expensive, has built in memory, no games.

Funny thing is I can't find any xbox (other than on DSE website) that contains 256 INTERNAL memory. I think it's just an error on their part.

As for the games, I got 2 xbox with that deal, each from a different store. One of the store gave me an arcade that came with the 5 arcade games inside the box (the box had the picture of the game printed on it), while the other store gave me an xbox without any arcade game.

The one with the arcade game is the version 1 (DSE description) and is a Falcon (manufacturing date: 09/2008)

The one without the arcade game is the version 2 (DSE description) and is a Jasper (manufacturing date: 04/2009).

Thus, I can conclude that the xbox version is actually whether it's a Falcon (version 1) or a Jasper (version 2).

As far as DSE employees are concerned, they don't f*cking know the difference.
As far as EBGames employees would know concering DSE's description, I seriously doubt it will be any different.

However, the deal itself is meant for DSE to get rid of its Falcon stock. So, technically, a price match from EBGames would involve pricematching for a falcon.

But, you'd rather leave that out, and try getting a Jasper.

              Goodluck :)

              • @ameel: This is Ameel from above, but I can't edit my posts (new user can't post more than 5 times daily :/)

Anyway, it seems I was wrong: Xbox arcades after fall 2008 were all produced with onboard/in-built memory.

I just opened my 2 xbox and tested:
                1) the falcon, version 1 xbox has a separate memory card unit
                2) the jasper, version 2 xbox does not have a separate memory card unit. When I launch it, it says 322MB free memory on system.

                Hope this helps

  • pricematched at EB games in seven hills.

    its a jasper :D

  • No luck in price match at EB carindale… said they only match their nearest DSE (and the nearest one don't have stock)

  • They are still price matching the deal at seven hills EB games,
I just got another one for a friend today.

no questions asked, just did it for me straight away after looking at the print out.

    jasper as well :D

  • has anyone gotten any luck getting one in VIC?

  • +1

Does anyone happen to have a saved copy of the print out of the $199 bundle from DSE? I would really appreciate it if you sent it to safwanc[at]gmail[.com] as the link no longer works.

  • Could someone tell me exactly what they got in the deal .
    Was Halo included ?
What games are in the arcade pack ?

    • no halo (despite the pack being called halo)

arcade pack included, 1 controller, power brick, av cables, xbox360 arcade (falcon) + Forza 3
