The Vodafone prepaid starters might be usable with this offer.

    • +1

      It is.

      • Cheers for confirming, wasn't sure if these were the prepaid cap sims.

  • I'm without internet at home for a week or two, does anyone know how much data the Vodafone $30 is worth? They've got the free data happening on the weekends but I don't know if I'll be able to use it throughout the week too.

    • It comes with 1Gb of data… the unlimited data weekend might be a bit of hit and miss as there are people that have been banned due to "excessive use" of "unlimited data" (40Gb onwards)

      • I think i might have accidentally downloaded 400GB on Voda last weekend, Now this weekend just gone I was limited to 200KB/s.

        • I did 45GB since my home internet was out so I might be limited next time too.

Though I'm surprised to hear they did not suspend your service like some of the other people on the forum

Stock up on sim cards from Phonebot. They are relatively cheap at reliable source.

      • +1

        Im sure they are spamalamadingdong

        • -1

Not associated to them. Just found them to be reliable. Is that so wrong?

  • Also at Coles from Wed 25th, page 23.

Telstra, Optus or Vodafone Pre-Paid $30 SIM Starter Kit $15
Offer also includes Amaysim, Boost, Lebara and Lycamobile

    • Just bought 2 in my local HN. Same half price. Expire 09/2016. Plenty of stock.

Do these come with the built in NSA monitoring & Australian Government metadata 2 year backup plan or do I need to pay extra for those features?

      That service is "free".

btw, also noticed how there was not a discussion in those articles about stopping it - only about the outrageous costs when it is implemented.

100% certain that our kids won't even know what privacy or freedom is. Most folks today want to give up their few remaining rights.

      • Unfortunately it's not free. The carriers will pass on the implementation and retention costs via higher charges or less value. Meanwhile, we'll all be paying the government to snoop through or calls, texts and browsing histories via our taxes.
Personally, I'd prefer if the government spent the money on things like roads, hospitals and schools ands didn't impose these high regulatory costs on the rest of us.

  • Can someone please tell me can I buy a few of the Telstra starter pack and use it for recharge in the future. Thanks.

    • yes and yes

      • +1

I believe you are not entirely correct.

In order to 'recharge' with the starter kit you will have to port out to another provider and then port back using the starter kit every time.

          Dawg, It's called Credit Me2U.

        • @Son ofa Zombie:
          I stand corrected

          @Son ofa Zombie:
I'm pretty this does not work. you can't get the 'bonuses' from a normal recharge

        • Yep this is what I do monthly. I port to and from Voda - Telstra

        • @Son ofa Zombie:

I'm on the old grandfathered Encore Cap plan. Can I use these to top up my credit, to buy extra minutes & data?

If so, how does it work?

      • It's not like a Skype Account at all.

Is there any work-around/hacky type thing/method, whereby you can buy one of these VodaPH starter packs, and then actually use it to recharge your exiting prepaid SIM?
[Please forgive my general ignorance about anything moby-related]

    • I'd like to know the same for Optus if anyone knows?

    • buy a bunch of Optus and Telstra and Vf sims and churn through them at the end of the 28 or 30 days, or credit expiry, which ever occurs first.

    • buy all 3 and rotate. that's what i'm going to do but with telstra and optus.

      telstra -> optus -> telstra -> optus

      • each SIM will have a different number though won't it ? Your friends are gonna be confused who is calling them

        • Nah you port your number out to Optus and then back to Telstra etc.

        • Yes I mean porting through each one

    • Looking at Vodafone community responses, Vodafone will transfer credit from an account that is being canceled to another account at their discretion which as far as I can tell is more or less equivalent. One person asked if they would do it with the starter kit bundled with a Y550 and the reply was they wouldn't so bundled starter packs might be different if they can be identified as such (or if you say the wrong thing)

  • All rightey just in time to stock up on Telstra sims again :)

  • stock up for some new customer loyalty churning

  • I'm keen to get a long expiry prepaid plan for my ipad. Vodafone has the $125 for 15GB 365 days data plan while Optus is $130. Can I get these $30 starter at $15 and reload $110 or I need to use it for one month then recharge $125?

From what I understand, the $2 sim can't be recharge with this data plans. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • each SIM will have a different number though won't it ? Your friends are gonna be confused who is calling them

  • According to this: http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/prepaid/recharge-options…

It looks like I can't buy a bunch of optus one and transfer it to my current $2 a day pre-paid that I'm on.

    Is that correct ?

  • Can I buy the Optus prepaid, register for the cheapest prepaid plan (something long term) so I can benefits of the Optus rewards, i.e cheap movie tix?

Has Optus stopped the cheap movie tix with the $2 sim plan?

  • If you can find them also includes the old 3gig iPad sims, just brought five from Kurri Coles and there were plenty left but check use buy date. These expire October 2015.

EVERY SINGLE Auspost I've visited has not had any of these..

    • 'your username' indeed

    • Same, staff checked 3 major PO in area, NIL, ZIP, Narda. Me thinks it's ye oldie 'Bait and switch'

  • Does anyone know whether do we have to activate these straightaway? How long can I wait before I have to activate?

I am planning to buy 24 x VF Sim Cards and then use one every month (28 days). Is this possible? I dont care about the mobile number as I just use these for data + credit.

    Thanks

  • Might be a silly question, but if I bought the Vodafone starter pack can I then revert to their PAYG option when I recharge?
