    LG G watch R has been around this price and is a much better choice if your in the market

    If not you are best to wait as there will be major battery life improvements and sensors added, by the end of 2015 these things will rock

    • +2

      I much prefer the look of the Moto 360, and I don't see that the LG Watch R is better in any substantial way.

      But I agree that the 2nd-generation products are likely to have more features and better battery life.

      • +1

        LG G watch has a smaller screen, is bigger and has a huge bezel. Moto 360 is a fabulous looking device. Yes, the LG has better battery life but the Moto can get me through at least 2 days, possibly three (haven't had it for long enough to try but I ended yesterday with 75% battery after moderate-heavy use), which is plenty.

        • -2

          Funny everyone else barley gets a day

          FYI the Moto has a 4 year old CPU, lower res, less sensitive and not fully rounded screen

          But go ahead and buy it…

      • The Urbane looks good.

  • +2

    Mate, you put the description of the pre-release date. Anyway, glad to see the price has dropped in light of our sinking dollar. I am sticking with my LG Gear live and loving it. ( I will not deny I am missing my sold pebble)

    • Thanks mate. I've changed it.

    So a 'dumb' watch can last decades and decades. How many years will this last?

    • +2

      If you base all your purchase decisions around how long an item will last you should wear a sundial on your wrist.

      • -4

        You're not answering the question and it's wrong to assume that.

        • +5

          The point is that you're comparing apples and oranges. People don't buy a smartwatch for the same reason they buy a Rolex. A smartwatch provides a convenient way to view your phone's notifications, track your fitness, control your music, and perform tasks. A 'dumb' watch tells you the time and potentially acts as a status symbol.

          Because a smartwatch is essentially a computer, obviously it won't last as long as a mechanical device. But that's not why you buy it.

        • +1

          Totally agree.

          You could have made the same argument about smartphones a few years ago. Yes, a dumb-phone could make calls, send messages and play music. And that was enough for many people, who ridiculed the price, the size, the fragility and the short battery life of smartphones.

          But those with a bit of vision saw that a smartphone could be so much more than a phone. The possibilities that smartphone tech has opened up is truly amazing, from contactless payments to Uber to automated homes to fitness monitors.

          If you don't want a smartwatch or see how it will be useful to you, feel free to not buy one. But don't dismiss them as pointless, because the potential of these little devices is truly staggering.

          @nexus4:

          I am asking how long will this watch last???

        • -3

          @klaw81:

          You totally agree and yet now you're comparing a phone with a watch. I was not intending to compare anything except to ask how long will this watch last? Sorry if I offended anyone?

        • +4

          @inherentchoice:

          No doubt you are aware that nobody knows, so why ask such a pointless question?

          It's a new product category, and we don't have a lot to guide us. At a guess, the battery will have reduced capacity after 24-36 months of daily use, to the point where it will need to be replaced (if that's possible).

          There is very little else to go wrong, apart from a failed water-tight seal or a rather unlikely hardware failure due to accidental impact or poor workmanship.

          My comparison using phones was clearly an analogy that demonstrates the difference between "dumbwatches" and smartwatches, and the lack of foresight of their detractors.

        • +2

          @inherentchoice:

          Well I'm sorry but no one can answer that. How long is a piece of string? There's no timer in this watch that will result in it stopping from functioning after a set time. Does that help?

        • +2

          @inherentchoice:

          Depends how you treat it?
          How long does a phone last?
          How long will you last?

        • @klaw81: It's aiming to be the next gadget people are going to replace every 2 years, after their phone and tablet.

  • +1

    320 x 290 pixel resolution

    Shouldn't the resolution be measured in Pi?

    • +1

      Not necessarily but they probably mean the max x*y pixels of the -almost-round-display

  • -2

    Having just picked up the LG G Watch R based on a side by side comparison.
    I think it all comes down to aesthetics, the Moto 360 is extremely chunky, and would look over-sized on even the thickest of wrists.

    • +6

      Are you kidding? The LG is way bigger/chunkier despite having a smaller screen. Here's a comparison shot I just took, the LG is clearly larger, despite it being on a thicker part of my wrist:

      • +4

        Yup, 360 wins hands-down on both size and class.

        The bezel on the LG is ridiculous.

      • Thanks for the pic/comparison.

        I'm still trying to decide if I should keep my Sammy Gear live watch that I'm yet to receive or sell it and get a Gear 2 (from that orange deal posted on this site, if still on) instead or something else.

      • Both watches are absolutely massive.. :/

  • Motorola is launching a new 'mystery' product tomorrow which may (or may not) be a new smartwatch. If it is, the price of the current model should drop further.

  • Officeworks has it for $299, why not shop local stock?

    • +2

      this is local AUSTRALIAN STOCK! with manufacturers warranty

  • The face looks great but that black strip on the bottom detracts from the look. With this black face it's hard to tell, but if you change the face to something brighter, you will see it, and it's very distracting.

    I will wait for a v2 before I consider it.

    • Yes, I agree it's a pity they left that black strip, but overall I think it's the most elegant smart watch at the moment. Unfortunately I'm stuck with my Iphone 6 plus and I will probably buy the Apple watch but I still think the Moto 360 is just beautiful! :)
