      lol some narc negged you

      • Haha so it seems! There's more than one!

  • +3

But in all seriousness this is an excellent handset for anyone who wants their phone to be a phone first and features second.

    • +1

Always wanted to give WP a try but keep getting underwhelmed by specs usually screen res or internal memory, was amazed at the number of non 4G models. This one here doesn't seem too bad though so might give it a shot for fun

      • Even with the low screen res windows phone looks amazing, has the best font rendering of any mobile OS imho and due to the way multitasking is handled low ram is not a big problem like it is with Android. I wish this phone had more internal storage though.

      • I use one as my work phone and they're pretty good. I wouldn't of bought one before this, but certainly would consider it as my personal phone in future.

  • +4

If the camera is not so much of a concern, the Lumia 735 has the same Snapdragon 400 chipset, a 720p OLED screen, for about $270ish at HN. Memory is 8GB instead of 16 and screen size is a little smaller (4.7" instead of 5") but for about $150 less than the Lumia 830 I would think the 735 is a better buy.

That said, I +1 this deal because it's still a good price for the 830,just that I don't think it represents particularly good value compared to the 735.

    • +1

      735 IS $248ish at Dickkies

      • +5

… But the Christmas deals where is was that price plus $100 coles card as a bonus flashes through my head every time I think of the 735…

        • +4

          I know, I can't believe I let that offer go. $148 for a 735 is a steal!

    • I've found the 735's camera to be the best I've seen in a phone. I took mine on a trip to South Island NZ and had numerous people on the trip with iPhones and Galaxies comment on the quality of the camera in the 735.

Best $144 I've spent on technology.

If you are ok with a grey import and don't mind missing out on band 28. You can save another $83 here

  • Oh Look, it comes with "FM RADIO". I'm gonna buy it just for this feature.

    • Surprisingly not many handsets have that feature anymore these days :(

      • Stream radio over the Internet? Not sure how much data it uses but I know Nova at least has an app.

        • +2

Radio can be used in areas where I have no mobile reception or edge data service. Plus why would I want to waste my limited mobile data allowance on a radio stream when it's being beamed at me for free? On WiFi sure I'll use a stream but at that point I'll be using rdio / Spotify and not a radio site.

    • +2

Don't bag it! I use it all the time. Why should I stream / use my data allowance to listen to FTA radio?
830 is a fantastic phone. Got one on release and I highly recommend it to anyone considering the WP OS.

  • +2

I have been using an 830 for the past few months. It is a fantastic phone. Very fast and feature packed.

    • +5

      Nope, can't live with Kogan.

      • Ahh smartass.. I thought we were talking about products..

I dont think it is cheaper
I found it for $318.70 from other store
    Look below-

Express delivery is $24. I think Still a bargian compared to jb hifi

Android-Enjoyed has some really cheap prices compared to other online stores, but there are many bad reviews about the store if you search the internet and Whirlpool. Has anyone on Ozbargain had any good experiences with them? Am still tempted to take the risk because of their cheap prices

      • +1

I was also reluctant when i read the reviews, but purchased twice and all went smooth.

I'm torn between this and the 1520.
The $420 price on the site doesn't say it is a sale, looks to me like a price drop.
What are the chances of the 1520 dropping to around this price again? There are not as many stores that stock it at this stage.

    • +1

If you ask for suggestion— Go for Nokia 930. I think the best Nokia phone by miles. Also the price for Nokia 930 is $444

The cheapest place again will be -
      http://www.android-enjoyed.com/nokia-lumia-930-lte-black-4g-…

1520 is 2013 phone. It was $410 n HN few months ago. You missed it there

      • +1

The reason why I am interested in these two, is the upgradeable storage.
I am using the Nexus 4 from this deal, but my needs have changed(very recently - why I missed that deal). The two phones that most interest me are the ones I mentioned; good cameras, lots of storage. If there is another option anyone knows of that meets those needs, and around this price point, I'm all ears.
        I appreciate your suggestion, nonetheless.

If camera is the only concern, Lumia 1020 has one of the best camera on phone (though it doesn't have a SD card support).

I think 1520 is almost identical to 930 other than the size (and SD card support), so if the size doesn't bother you, 1520 is a very decent phone that has identical spec as the high end Lumia *30 series at the moment.

          http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Nokia-Lumia-1520,No…

        • @AznMitch: Any chance someone know where can I still buy a Lumia 1520 with official warranty? I have been searching around for quite sometime…

        • +1

@msac: It would be extremely difficult. Why don't you try the vendors that used to have 1520 and ask around. JB HiFi had Lumia 925 in stock, but it was at somewhere that's like 100kms away. They transferred it over from there (That being said, it was still on display at the time.)

        • @AznMitch: Thanks, I wonder if they can look up the whole system for me, I asked about it in the Adelaide CBD store about a month ago with no avail.

    • I have the 1520, which I got from the HN special a few months ago. The best $400 ish I have spent for some time. Camera is fantastic, speedy, and amazing battery life. Phone fits well into jeans pocket though will poke out if you use your shirt pocket. The 6 inch full high def screen is great for videos and surfing - well, I don't even head for my kids IPADs any more. WiFi signal pickup is also quite strong.

      Cheers.

PS Optics on these cameras are great (20 MP and OIS) but pictures still lag behind proper cameras when it comes to low light and grain (still head for my TG-3 or my EOS650) when I want high quality pictures in doors when flash is required.

  • +1

Biggest thing putting me off is that the 640 has been announced. Same specs, bigger battery, probably worse camera but it'll be somewhere around the $200 point.

    • Hmmm, I know that the build quality would probably be different and it has LCD, but barring Camera, the new Lumia 640 has similar specs. From up till now, the most differentiable part (other than the camera and the screen res) of the mid range and budget phones were the RAM on WP. The only thing that concerns me is that since 640 is a budget to mid range phone, I am getting the feeling that 830 might get treated the same as the budget lines from Windows Phone 8.1 GDR 2/Windows 10 onwards.

Of course, the technology always improves and so does the standard, but many people sort of go into Windows Phone expecting full OS support from MS (like what Lumia *20s got, 8.0 -> 8.1 -> 10)

    • One of the other differences is the wireless charging feature on the 830. Not a biggie for some, but I really enjoy having it

  • +1

Is this 10x better than the 530?

  • http://www.expansys.com.au/s.aspx?sid=68508539&cat=P-SMARTPH… green or orange $369au, black $394 all + freight, $20

    • +1

You can get it a bit cheaper elsewhere but they are not Australian Stock

  • If you can handle bigger size phone, 1520 should better deal. A lot better specs.

  • Could someone explain to me what makes this phone such a great deal? Apart from the build quality, 700mhz 4g and camera the phone seems to be like a moto g but priced around double? Wouldn't something like a g2 or another android Phone that has better specs around this price be way better? The 930 Greg import seems like a much better choice than this too.

I have a 1320 which has similar specs, and I'd prefer a s800 powered android phone any day, but it also wasn't $400+.

    • Windows Phones are more optimised.

      • +1

Either way, an s400/1gb still performs worse than the Android phones that can be found at around this price or even less with s800/801. I like windows phones, but they also are lacking in a lot of respects. I have an htc one m8 as well as my Lumia and the HTC is much faster and better using it for most typical smart phone tasks. At $400+ price range I'd expect s800, 2gb of ram and 1080p display. Another thing I found with my Lumia, I can't find a browser with text reflow or they don't just work, which is really important feature if you ever browse on your phone. Gaming is also poor on the s400, yeah it can play games like asphalt 8 with less detail, but you still see lag. I'm surprised this is such a popular deal.

  • got one for $340 brand new/grey import, still works a treat.

apart from local support and warranty, feature wise they're exactly the same.

back in the day, the difference between local and parallel could be light and day due to 4G LTE support, now that's a non issue.

    • +1

      @avexdevil

So you are saying the grey import has band 28 support like the local version?

  • Lumia 640 or Lumia 640XL if you want something bigger will be similar spec and cheaper when they release.
