iPad Mini 2 16GB (w/ Retina) +Cellular $20 X 24 Months $480 Min Optus iPad Air 16GB Cel $648min

440

Cheap previous gen ipad minis on optus. Good deal on Ipad mini2 as it is essentially the same as the ipad mini 3.

Ipad mini 2 $480 Optus 24 month cost w/100mb data vs $529 on Apple store
Ipad air $648 vs $779

100mb isn't much at all but it is just the cheapest way to get the cellular Ipad. Additional data or Ipad memory increases price but quite reasonably. Data minimum cost $10 per gig.

It's even cheaper to get it on the 12 month contract!! $420 all up.

    • +10

Min. Total Cost is $365.00 for month to month

      • This and Virgin's 12 month, 10gb prepaid data sim looks like my new travel friend!

      • Cheaper yes, but its a lump sum of $365 vs smaller payments over 12 months.

        • You could purchase it on your credit card and then do a interest free balance transfer.

  • +6

So I may be missing something, but if you select month-to-month it appears you can get the 16gb mini retina 4g model outright for just $360 upfront plus $5 a month for the 100mb data.

(link to it in cart, though might not show) https://www.optus.com.au/shop/shoppingcart?action=addToCart&…

    *edit: I'm slow >.<

    • Great find. Ordered one.

    • Yep, showing up as $365 for me as well. Great find. OP you should update your title to reflect the $365 price.

    • will they provide receipt ? as im travelling soon, hope i can claim the trs ..

      • Same, though I'll probably get the 32GB version.

        • just found out that still can order from apple online store..

    • am i getting this right…………?

upfront is $360, i understand this part.

$5 MY MOBILE BROADBAND PLAN over 1 month - what is this? do i have to get this? is this something i need to pay every month for 2 years?

can i pay the upfront of 360 and not to get the 5 per month data? and by the way, is the pad locked to Optus?

      pleaset help…………

      • This is what I'd like to know, also.

        • For $360 upfront would it be possible to claim TRS if going overseas?

      • This means you are signing up for a month to month contract. i.e. can cancel after 1 month.

  • Is the iPad unlocked?

    • +2

Ordered one. Asked chat and they said it's not network locked.

  • great stuff!!

  • Man, I'm torn between this, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4.

    • +1

Annnnd the battery life and anti-TouchWiz brought me to the iPad.

      • The fragmented Android space brought me back. Oh look the newest and shiniest Samsung has low latency audio, but we are not giving it to you other devices.

I got an iPad mini from work, but they have locked out in-app purchasing and 17+ apps which is damn annoying. Thinking about just getting my own one instead. This is a good cheap per month way.

Damn you Ozbargain!! shakes fist Like I need another tablet!

Almost pulled the trigger on a 16gb Mini 2 Wi-Fi at the same price. While I was waiting for the sales guy, quick check on ozbargain, no sale! cant price match, off to Optus. Thank god it's only a 1 month contract.

  • +2

So I've done this last year with Optus, this is what you need to do just so everyone is clear:
    1. Go instore/online and get the device you want on the $5.00 100Mb plan
    2. A few days later call up and cancel it
2a. Your first bill will be the whole cost of the device (ie $360 in the case of the iPad mini 2) + a few dollars for being on the $5.00 100Mb plan for the days you had it active.
    3. Or you keep it active and continue paying the monthly payment for the device (ie $360 in the case of the iPad mini 2) + $5.00 100Mb plan.

If you want the device outright you follow up to step 2a.

    • Sorry I might have misunderstood. Why can't we buy outright from JB for 368? Why the deal is cheaper? Could someone enlighten me?
      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/tablets/apple/ap…

      • +2

The one from JB is wifi only. OP's deal is for a wifi & cellular unit.

      • +3

It's unfair to neg a comment when it's an innocent mistake, goes for both of us…….

        • I suppose if I want to buy it outright using the above method, can I claim TRS?

        • I didn't neg anyone. Please don't assume.

        • +1

@mishmish: I didn't think it was you, honestly. Sometimes the way these replies stack up kind of "twists" things.

Seems I have some folk around here that have a "thing" about me for some reason.
As you can see, after my comment, azm's negs have gone yet mine remain. Kinda says something yet both of us made an innocent mistake. Not like it's life threatening.

    • The one from Target is wifi only. OP's deal is for a wifi & cellular unit.

      • Just realised the difference. (I don't use them)

  • Bought one. Thanks.

  • Also if you have one of the new mobile plans (My Plan Plus) you can get a data sharing SIM (one off $5) and use your data from mobile plan on this device.

    It's a great find OP

    • This is what I will be doing.
My bil has 2.5gb and does not use it at all.
Will be getting the bulk of his data for free.

Will wait for the ipad to arrive first before sorting out the data sharing business.
Don't quite know how to go about doing this yet.

      • Just sign up as an existing customer on a month to month plan and ask for a data sharing SIM card when you order. No further changes required.
Optus will charge $5 one off for the data sharing SIM and ship it along with the iPad. Hope this helps

  • Thanks OP! Great find! Just bought one. Process was painless and fast.

  • Great find! Got an ipad Air 1 instead for my mum for $528. They also upgraded my phone plan from $50 and phone repayment to a $45 plan, but I get 3gb of data sharing with the ipad from 1.5gb! :) Just hope the $528 was a decent price.

    • Why wouldn't it be a great price? the same product is A$659.00 at the apple store outright :O assuming I searched correctly.

      • Yeah but that's just the normal price not sale price. I assume sale price is lower?

  • Thanks OP again.. i bought the 64gb :-)

  • Boom. Bought a 16gb ipad mini 2. Can't resist a bargain!

  • +1
    • If I'm reading correctly, these two posts address 2 aspects of one offer. This one addresses a simple tablet on a plan deal, available to everyone, while the link is data share plans that connect to existing Optus mobile accounts.

  • Can I get $10 off if I bundle with an NBN plan? Like with a mobile service?

  • +1

I got 16gb mini + retina + cellular at optus store for $360. no month to month contract required. That was the scanned price.

    • Way to go. No credit check or ID check nonsense.

    • nice, did they give you a tax invoice? if so i guess we can claim TRS on it.

also can you not put a name on the invoice?

  • Has anyone who ordered one had theirs shipped yet? Ordered on Tuesday and the order is still showing "We're waiting for your item to arrive at our warehouse. You will receive an SMS when it is dispatched. You can check the status here or call us on 1800 555 295 for anything else."

    • Got mine on Wed. Ordered on Tues.

    • Got mine

    • Hmm still showing as not shipped. Might call them

      • Same here… And so the Optus bullsh!t starts… Called up and they have no idea how long it will be until they have any in stock. They could not give me any lead time and said unexpected demand has caused back orders and if i could give it another 7 "business" days and call back if i still dont any notification… not for receiving it, only if i dont have notification by then…

        Mine was ordered 10/3 @ 11:43am

        • They have just called me back now. Looking for a store for me that might have stock instead.

        • @ajobbins: Did the same for me. No store within 150km of me has any stock.

Typical Optus. Passion fingers, everything they touch… well, you get the idea.

Cancelled my order and this was the last straw. If Optus were giving away iPad air 2 for $5 on a $1 plan for 1 week, i still wouldn't buy from them. This was their last chance to win me back and they couldn't even get this right… Would neg deal if i could for just being a pathetic and shifty entity to deal with…

        • Yep every store I called (that picked up the phone) has no stock :(

Guess I'm waiting a white. I wonder where they get their stock from? Apple have it on their store as in stock, and usually ship same day. You'd think a carrier would be able to get some pretty quickly.

        • One of the stores i called said they had 2 of them in stock but refused to sell one of them too me at the price mentioned on the website. They would not do the $5 month to month and the minimum plan they would put me on was $37/m x24… Um, no thanks. I didnt give a rats though, it was over an hours drive to get there. No iPad is worth that…

  • Now showing "Out of Stock" on the Optus website for this model. Wasn't showing that status yesterday even though they obviously were.

  • Who would go for the Mini 1 when the mini 2 is the same price. LOL

  • I also was getting the info that We're waiting for your item to arrive at our warehouse. I rang them and they had stuffed up my order instead of the Ipad mini 2 16g they had ordered me an Ipad 16g. Was informed they have now fixed it but the weird thing is they just told me they have put an Ipad mini 2 16g away even though it says "out of stock" on the website for startrack to collect tonight and will be here by Wednesday next week. So are they out of stock? Seems we are getting different answers from different people

  • -2

got mine just then at a store. not many left 16gb mini 2, $360 outright.

  • TRS claim - no price shown on my receipt. Wonder if I have to provide the invoice out separately.

    • mine showed price, and gst component.

you need to ask them for the full invoice.

  • Cancelled my month-to-month.
Upcoming bill should only be the cost of device according to the rep I talked to.

  • Has anyone who ordered on the 10th-11th March actually got a shipping notification yet?

Or is everyone still at the "Waiting for your item to be delivered to our warehouse"?

I'm in no hurry, was a good deal and if actually gets delivered I'll be happy!

    • Ordered mine on the 10th. Still showing "Waiting for your item to be delivered to our warehouse"

  • Just called them for an update on stock. Apparently it's "two to three weeks away"

    • Which is fine imo.

As long as they honour the deal.

I just didn't want to miss out.

Was dreading a scenario where they either offered me another deal (Which I would have refused) or the option to cancel…

  • I've changed my order to a 64GB. Not quite as good value for money but still good at $27/month. They have stock now so should get by the end of week.

They also have stock of the 32GB at $25/month

    • Yeah, I knew they had stock of the larger capacity units.

I'll just wait for mine as I have no need for more space.

I did call them today… order is processed and will be fulfilled, it's just a waiting game.

  • They cancelled my order and I didn't decide to call them or not, seems a waste of time to talk to them.

    • what was their reason?

      • Your order has been cancelled. Please call 1800 555 050 if you would like to place a new order. (Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm AEST)

  • +1

Called them, waste 20 mins, just get the reason is that they can't know the expected time for re-stock…

    • they didn't let you re-order?

      • No…

  • Just thought I'd mention, my order was cancelled eventually too! I did however manage to get one in another state in store.

Only set it up today… Very nice! Shame Optus couldnt be truthful about stock levels. When I rang they said it was
all good and they would contact me regarding stock the next day. 2 days later order cancelled.

That's some crap customer service. So while they supplied the device, a Boost sim has replaced the Optus one!

  • Has anyone that got one online received their bill yet?
    Still waiting…
