$200 Free Deposit upon First Trade Plus Every Tenth Trade Free for NRMA Members with Bell Direct

180

NRMA members who open a Bell Direct share trading account will receive a free $200 deposit upon placing their first trade. Additionally, every tenth trade is free. Plus you'll also receive an 8-week trial subscription to Charlie Aitken's 'Under the Southern Cross' daily investment report.

I've been using Bell Direct for around a year now and they have the cheapest online brokerage that I'm aware of at $15 (or 0.1% for trades $15k+).

I asked them if existing Bell Direct accounts are eligible to which they replied that the 10th-trade-free offer can be applied, but the $200 deposit only applies to new accounts, so I may just have to close my account and then open another. ;)

  • Lol nICE! instant + vote from me

ive had a bell direct account for a year but havent traded once. im with etrade who has more brokerage but they have better services (like doing ur tax statement for you lol).

but ive been meaning to use my bell direct account as ive been clearing my etrade and have been using an american broker; Interactive brokers ($6 a trade or 0.008% a trader whichever is higher)

but i need an aussie broker cause i cant participate in certain SPPs and entitlements if im with a US broker.

this is the perfect reason to create a new account.

DO they check whether the nrma account matches the broker account?

    Actually, i have a question

is you NRMA membership number the same as your nrma "policy number"?

    • An NRMA policy number is related to insurance. An NRMA membership number is related to road service. NRMA Insurance and NRMA Motoring and Services are independant companies (despite sharing the same name… and selling each other's products through the same branches). If you have an NRMA insurance policy you do not become an NRMA member.

      • yeh thanks i figured it out. i have both

  • sorry I'm not familiar with this, is it possible to open the account, make the first trade, get the $200 free deposit, withdraw the money and close the account?

    • from what i understand you can withdraw it. in the worst case scenario, u can just place a trade. get the $200. place a second trade (best if its the same stock as the first one) to the value of $200 incl brokerage, then sell both on market. u basically lose $45 this way but its essentially being given free $155 for your trouble.

but they say its a cash deposit that can be used any way you want and the cash account that Bell uses is bascially like a bank account.

The only exception i can think of is if they did it the etrade way, where i got $600 of free credit towards trades, they just gave me free trade credits to the value of $600. so no way to withdraw it.

when i have time i will test this out cause ill be signing up regardless, but youve pointed out something interesting lol

  • So you HAVE to be a NRMA member to receive the free $200 deposit?

    • yes they ask for the membership number

  • Does anyone have an NRMA number I can use? I live in SA and we have the RAA…… Thanks!

    • seeing as how i basically described a free way to get $155 for nothing….i doubt it? lol

    • shouldn't your name, address and etc match the NRMA membership detail anyways? I mean surely they would check if your details match..

      • i just signed up using my uncle's nrma number. technically its mine too cause my car is insured under his name. and the process went through no problems. i used my own name and details.

furthermore my previous account got to the same stage. i just never activated the trading account. which i am going to do this time. and it was totally NRMA unrelated. so you can use other nrma numbers it seems

  • Whens this offer end?

    • it doesnt say, but it looks like one of those long term nrma member benefits/discounts. so i would say a long time

and i think those every 10th trade is permanent too as long as your a member.

i still havent faxed my application to them yet to activate trading, so i havent tested the free money theory. if it works, this thread should be stickied lol.

  • Can this apply to RAA member?

  • Does anyone know if Bell has minimum amount of shares you have to buy? Eg Can i buy 1 share of X and then sell it lol - Cost = $30 but i still end up with $170 in cash account…

  • yeh u can do that. theres no minimum. if u are doing this just to get the money remember u need money in it initially to make a trade before they give u the $$$

  • Also remember that if you don't already own a particular security (stock), you need to purchase a minimum parcel of $500 worth. This is an ASX rule.

    • Is this a CFD account?

  • has anyone gotten the free $200 yet? my cash account has been approved, but i don't want to take the plunge of making a $500 trade to find out..

    • yeh I am in the same boat. Any verified ways of acquiring some or all of the $200?

    • It's a new promotion and Bell Direct has taken the entire back page of NRMA's Open Road magazine to promote the offer, so I'm very confident it is legitimate.

    • Signed up with NRMA membership number 10 days ago and made first trade this morning. No $200 bonus deposit in the account yet.

  • Can you use the same NRMA membership number on two accounts???? I'm planning to open two accounts, one for myself and one for my sister and use our dads NRMA number….

  • Just got off the phone with Bell. Was told it's 3-4 weeks before the $200 gets credited.

    • Can you withdraw the extra $200? Or do you have to buy more shares with it?
      2 x BUY + 1 x SELL?
