        @ronnknee your wording is incorrect.
you say they couldn't honour the deal, but in actual fact they are a large company with lots of money, so they could have accepted their mistake and honoured the deal.
But they decided that they just didn't want to honour the deal because they would lose a bit of their money.
There's a big difference between couldn't and just didn't want to.

  • bastards!

  • Called them up….Groupon made a mistake with their systems, technical issues apparantly

    • will they reinstate the purchases?

      • +3

im guessing their technical issue was allowing the code to be used for gift cards ;)

knowing the customer service quality of groupon im not expecting any 'positive' outcomes if they have started spitting out refunds

        • They said they didn't have vouchers to sell to begin with.. I think they must of realised they can't afford this. Sounds very sus

        • @Entertainment: they had reached their limit - sold out

        • @Entertainment:
they are e-gift cards… wooloworths will spit out as many as you want.. its more likely they didnt mean to have gift cards available for purchase during their promo period due to losing $ on them

        • +1

@SBOB: Can we complain to ACCC or paypal about groupons actions? The money was taken, order was confirmed, now they don't want to keep their end of the bargain.

        • +3

          @Entertainment:
you received a refund.. the ACCC or paypal will say groupon have acted according to any retailing laws anyway

groupon can legitimately say they have no gift cards to sell and refund all transactions (which it seems they are doing). Crying about it wont change anything

        • +1

@SBOB: What if the Woolworths deal comes back online tomorrow?

        • @knackers:

then it comes back online… and you receive your refund… and you or others come on here using words like 'ACCC' and we eventually forget about it and move onto the next deal

        • +10

@SBOB: I'm not so sure. Their reason for cancelling is a "technical issue" they are unwilling to explain. They also say as soon as the technical issue is resolved they will be relisted for sale. So they can't claim to be out of stock. It screams of them being unwilling to honour their "valid on all deals" claim for the promo code and direct email marketing. Sounds very much like misleading and deceptive advertising. or a genuine mistake that they have made into an issue because 1.they deliberately emphasised that the code was valid for ANY deal and 2. They seem to be being dishonest claiming the refundis for technical issues and that as soon as those technical issues are resolved the cards will be available for sale. To me, either way this does sound like a very dishonest business that the regulators should investigate given the number of people affected. onlinegroup voucher sites are becoming big business and affording them special permission to be unaccountable because they are online is inappropriate and unfair to legitimate businesses that are working hard locally to do the right thing.

        • @Entertainment:

Just on this, I bought a card with the code, and another without the code. Only the one with the code was refunded, so saying they had none was a straight up lie.

  • Amount refunded after confirmed order must have sold out

    • +1

doubtful as my refund was from an order placed from the initial posting of the deal prior to it first selling out

  • Call 1300 962 032 to complain to groupon

    • Did you call? What did they say?

Edit: NVM I saw your earlier comments.

  • Yeah, mine refunded to. Looks like they've made a mistake by including cards and are rectifying their mistake by not honouring deal. Pretty weak.

    • -2

I'm opening a dispute with PayPal

      • +8

        you're opening a dispute over receiving a refund….
paypal find in your favour and you get a refund (which you have already recieved)…. what is the point

(though im suprised you can raise a dispute over a refunded transaction as in 'paypal' land thats nullified the transaction)

  • Not honoring deal.

    • +5

instead of negging the deal, you should boycott Groupon for upsetting you, not fair to give a neg to him/her

      • +7

It is fair to neg. The deal isnot a good deal. Not OP's fault, but what we're rating is the deal and Groupon considers there is no deal and they are walking away from it. OP did a great job and made lots of people happy. However the deal itself has been voided by Groupon so there is no deal and they have made lots of people unhappy.

        • +2

i see your point now :), that's right, we all are pissed by Groupon

        • +1

          @webtherapist:

20% off COLES vouchers at Groupon Now on!!!

just kidding. bet they would be instantly forgiven - until they dishonor again. THEN another bargain! rinse and repeat.

most folks need to put their finger in the electrical socket at least 10 times before learning a lesson these days.

  • +6

    NOT AWESOME

  • I have not got any email for the Refund or the email for the gift card.

    • Got an email just now. Same as everyone Technical error.

  • +1

Pretty pathetic that they're only now retracting the deal after selling thousands on two separate occasions.

Kinda butthurt but I'll get over it :v

  • +1

Refunding due to technical error, as soon as the technical error is resolved they will be made available for sale again!?! Seriously! Why don't they say they are not honouring the "valid on any deal" promo code and will relist them as soon as the promo code expires. Can't they at least be honest? Then going on to say thanks for my support, they honestly couldn't do without it… They obviously don't want it either

  • +12

Good way to get sign ups, pieces of shit

  • +2

Ive been refunded too, what utter crud leading us on like that!

  • +1

I got refund on the latter deal for 200 card, not the former one on which I've purchased 100 card. (At least yet)

    • +1

I haven't gotten an email or refund on the $100 gift card I bought either. Used "awesome" to purchase it for for $80.75.

  • I have not received any cancellation notifications on the 2 accounts I used to make an order. In the groupon app it shows the deal as pending. What does the app show for those with cancelled orders.

    • It's marked as Open on the Groupon website, but under deal details it says "Payment Unsuccessful. Please try to purchase again."

(Of course, purchasing again is impossible.)

    • Mine just disappeared from the app however still no email. Paid by credit card

  • +1

alright, we now learn that PayPal is the biggest winner in this case for holding our money with interest :), Not AWESOME after, thanks OP for sharing though, Groupon is not nice this round, probably no next purchase for a while ^_^

  • +2

    Did not honour. Refunded.

  • Thank you very much for purchasing a Groupon for the Woolworths eGift Card deal using a Groupon Promo Code.

Unfortunately, due to a technical error, this deal went live by mistake and we are sorry to have to advise you that eGift cards purchased between Wednesday 11 Mar 2015 and Friday 13 Mar 2015 cannot be generated and despatched.

We sincerely apologise for the disappointment. A full refund to your original method of payment has been processed. This is processed automatically and you will find the amount of the refund on the actual date of your Groupon purchase.

As soon as our technical issues are resolved, the eGift cards will be back for sale on Groupon.

    • +3

      That's AWFUL,not AWESOME at all!!!

  • How long will it take for the money to be available again? Got refund email but not showing on my bank account yet :(

  • What will happen to voucher code they issued. Is it usable? Has anyone tried that?

    • +1

The voucher code they've issued is just a local groupon code. It is meaningless.
The actual woolworths codes (from a separate @everydayrewards email) were never issued.

  • +3

I'm thinking they mean "wasn't meant to be available with the 15% discount"

  • +6

Hi guys, I contacted their customer support team on 1300 962 032 and was very nice to them. I asked what had happened and why I got the refund. After Ken spoke to the manager on duty, he informed me of the technical problem and that the mass refund was issued and a mass email would also be sent out. I politely said, 'OK Ken, I don't believe that there was a technical issue as my friend who purchased the gift card for $190, as he forgot to put the discount code in, has not received a refund. I think that your company has not realised how much discount would be provided with the code and that's why only those sales are being refunded'. He politely acknowledged that situation and offered to credit my account $28.50 which could be used towards the sale of the $200 gift card when it comes on. Just checked my account and I have $28.50 there.
Be polite on the phone guys, hope this info helps :)

    • +2

Then, this credit will be "refunded" before next gift card sale because of technical issue again. :)

      • +2

Hopefully not. Either way, I'm hoping I can use the credit on whatever I want. It seems like I've just got 28.50 in my account and can be used on any deal I like.

    • Thanks for sharing that! Might try it! :)

      • Any luck?

        • Haven't had a chance yet to call them! But will report back of I do!

      • No worries, hipe it helped someone some way :) and remember, its not the customer reps fault, be nice to them, not their fault the company is shady

  • +5

Mine are refunded as well. Will not buy again from groupon.

  • +1

I have got $50 credit and $10 credit now sitting on my account - this was because i purchased the $500 and was charged $475.00 on my paypal instead of $415 ($10 from my existing credit). I emailed Groupon and the CSO put back the $60 on my account.

BUT i did not get the refund email - probably because my purchase was at FULL PRICE at $475.00

  • +5

    No good no good

  • Vote Revoked!

  • Got the refund email :(

  • Got refund email too. And it's was definitely still available when I bought it. Was one of the early ones around 5am. Oh well

  • +2

friday 13th ooga booga, got a full refund too

  • Still yet to get my cancellation email. Ordered at 7:15.

Hmm that's odd…I checked my paypal and I have been refunded but received no email from either groupon or paypal…

    • Actually did receive the email but nothing from groupon.

  • +6

    cheating incompetent bastards

  • +4

    AWFUL

  • +2

Interesting I had a chat with Groupon at 8.45AM today, and also got a reply by email late Friday avo, regarding having an expired email on my account and needing to update it for Woolworths to email to a valid address.
Neither mentioned the deal being off, and I was blatently refused a REFUND when I asked for it.
It seems to me they didn't anticipate 19.25% off perhaps several million dollars (wild guess) in eGift cards? Curious realizing an error maybe 24 hours later, and possibly thousands of orders down the road.
I call: 'Scheming Bastarditis' on this deal!

    • +2

Yeah I had requested a refund too, and their response was "Sorry, you should read the fine print — no refunds for change of mind".

and then hours later they refunded me without notifying me. I assumed they had become generous all of a sudden.

…and then I received their apology.

So "change of mind refunds" are OK if they change their mind. For me, no go.

  • +3

Groupon not honouring deal. Not a deal

  • +1

Refund showing up in Paypal account but I still have a zero $ balance??? It that normal?

Edit: If you funded the original paypal payment to the seller with a debit or credit card then it won't go back to your paypal balance.

Once marked as completed it will automatically go back to your bank account or credit card but takes up to a week to process through to the bank and a bit longer for a c.c.

Great. So up to ONE WEEK without my money!

    • +3

So up to ONE WEEK without my money!

if you needed the funds this week one would assume you wouldnt have purchases a gift card that was still 2-3 business days away from arriving..

      • +4

That's not really the point I was making….

  • +1

Clearly Groupon do not care for their customers, not providing any clear communications when cancelling deals or offering anything in compensation. This was not an IT System Issue as Groupon have advised when I called them up. They just don't want to offer the deal because they didn't realise they are actually offering a REAL deal. Perhaps the comments should be taken to their https://www.facebook.com/groupon.au facebook page.

    NOT AWESOME DEAL

  • Is everyone that's getting a refund just via PayPal or have some that paid with CC been able to determine if their available balance has gone back up the $161.50?

  • +1

I have no email saying the deal has been cancelled. I have no refund yet in my account. On the Groupon site, it says my payment has been unsuccessful (I have no voucher to use). Thanks for keeping your customers informed Groupon……

  • I am in the same boat with you rowenaduncan . No email saying the deal has been cancelled. No refund yet in my CC. On the Groupon site, it says "Payment unsuccessful. Please try to purchase again"…

  • Yes, I too got the same message "Payment unsuccessful. Please try to purchase again"… However this is a lie, as I have been charged successfully on my card. No refund yet in my CC.

  • +1

CC payment fully processed, but received Groupon's 'unfortunately…' e-mail in quadruplicate this morning saying a refund's on the way. Also got hit with the international purchase fee that seems to be a common feature of these Groupon purchases. While it only takes a couple minutes to type up and send the refund request, imagine if many more businesses did things the same way…

    • +5

yeah i paid via cc as well. I was suprised to be hit by that international processing fee too.
I assume that fee wont get refunded, so all those who paid via cc, although we will get refunded, we still actually made a net loss from this 'Groupon Scam'

I must say that their email reply has got to be one of the most pathetic attempts to cover their asses.
If you make a mistake, own up to it, don't blame it on a technical error, cause its soooooo damn transparent that you just don't want to honour the deal.

      • International processing fees should get refunded. Our credit card does.

    • Paid with HSBC CC, no international processing fee. Which bank CC did you use?

      • i used my ING debit card

  • Response from Groupon on FB: Thank you for your inquiry, an email was sent to all customers affected which explained the technical error and advised a full refund has been processed. Many thanks Bridget.

  • groupon wishes it was the next COTD

  • +5

For those bought Groupon GC, maybe you can tell them your computers also had technical issues and bought their gift cards by mistakes to see if they can do a refund? Technical problems can happen on our computers as well right?

  • +11

Revoke your +ve's people. Groupon are a bunch of crooks. Their T&C had no restriction on the use of the code, but then they found out they were giving a discount on something that was actually worth buying on their site (which btw is full of garbage)!

    • +3

I revoked mine last night, wish I could neg.

I basically had an inactive Groupon account and buying the $200 woolies gc seemed to have reactivated spam from them, so I went into my subscriptions yesterday and cancelled all of the marketing options…

Then today I get another email advertising the bloody woolies cards, among other things. The nerve of these people, makes me angry!

I paid by PayPal, the only response I got was the PayPal email telling me about the refund. These people claim they emailed all customers what a load of junk. These people do not know how to run a business, let alone contact their customers when things go wrong. Making announcements on social networking only serves to make it look like they are doing something.

It's going to take a lot more than "awesome" for me to ever consider bothering with this cheap faceless company again.

      • +1

The ability to neg is something ozbargain should change its policy on. Currently, if you vote positive because the deal seems good, then you lose the ability to neg if it turns sour later, such as in this instance. The effect is this deal that never existed because the company walked away from it retains a large positive vote. Personally, it means I should learn to never + vote another ozbargain deal until I have the item in my hand or I waive my ability to ever neg vote should I want to. The effect of this is users will stop voting because there is no advantage to them from submitting a + vote, and then the ozbargain community is diluted by an increasing number of observers and fewer participants.

        • There is no positive vote on this, it's in the forum, no vote at all…

  • +1

Why don't take this onto their Facebook page? There seems to be someone responding. Ig we flood their Facebook page with comments they will know how disappointed we are.

  • also got the refund, but no email from groupon.

  • +4

Why is it marked price error when obviously it is dishonoured by Groupon?

  • It took Groupon days to determine a pricing error? One of the greatest scam I have seen.

  • This looks like a train wreak

  • +1

Only purchased the ~$81 and by debit NAB. Will keep an eye open for refund while there has been no word to me from Groupon. Most likely just stringing it out.

  • +1

Are we in the right to lodge a complaint to ACCC or any relevant departments? If so, did Groupon violate something that we can mention?

    • +2

      Common decency

  • +6

I don't understand why companies don't just say they fluffed up in non PC marketing speak.
First company who does that (when they do fluff up) would get huge respect from me.

    "Dear just-another-of-our-cashcows,

We fluffed up because we are knobs and didn't think the deal would go viral. When it did
we realised we would lose mucho dollar, so therefore we don't want to do this deal anymore.
    Have a nice day.

PS look at our fine print which says we don't owe you anything."

  • +2

The reason they took so long to respond - they were waiting legal advice as to what reason to use for not honouring the deal Boycott Groupon ! #boycottgroupon

  • -7

Are they going to pay us the few days interest on the credit card they we need to fork out?

    • +3

considering its processed as a refund and occurred within a day or 2 of the initial transaction I'll happily pay your $0.00 interest charge for this transaction
