Is this payable yet? And/or as good as X3?

I am a huge X:Series fan, played the games for more than a decade, but (for the first time) I didn't pre-order their game after hearing the developers say they were making X-Rebirth the way they always wanted - never a good sign. The changes they intended were what made the game special for me.

Having passed the year sabbatical in which I swore I wouldn't purchase, I bought the Collectors Edition beginning of December 2014. I then spent about 80hrs playing and can honestly say I wouldn't recommend it, not now or in the future. This game is a huge shift away from what made the series so popular - it feels cheap and dumbed down.

If your a fan and wish to show some level of appreciation for Egosoft's past work then this discount is the time to buy, but as a game it's abysmal and, even after a year, so full of bugs I had to restart 3 times before I finally gave up.

      • Got it, I'll stick with x3…. Maybe one day it'll be playable. In no rush since I have a million other games and not much time to play anyway. Thanks

    • tnx, info added.

  • Review looks pretty bad, has anyone own this game?

    • I own it, and the reviews don't lie. That said, I feel the discount brings it's value to a more realist level.

However, unless your after the trading cards or have money to spare, I'd recommend the X3 games as the place to start. Huge amount of mod's, massive archives offering support (both written & video), unbelievably good soundtrack, and the video quality is still exceptionally beautiful - even better now with more powerful GPU's.
