$699 for pc with decent specs: E7500 2.93ghz, 4GB, 250GB, 19" LCD

An extra $100 will score a bigger HDD, 23" LCD, and graphics card; probably a better deal really.

    another dell error?

You sure? I am getting the Dell Vostro page.

It works, and it's not a pricing error, got it in email myself too.

      • strange works now didn't work a few minutes ago .

    An extra $100…

    Interestingly the $799 model has

    • Windows 7 Professional
    • 320GB hard drive
    • 23" E2310H LCD monitor
    • ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB Gfx card

but only has 2GB of RAM (instead of 4GB).

Edit: and one level up, the $849 model has 3GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Integrated Intel graphics, and 20" LCD Monitor. Weird pricing.

    • Much as I find the Dell website stuff-ups comical and annoying, the $799 model looks like what I need for one of my children.

It may not be the greatest Gfx card - but better than I'm likely get elsewhere at this price point AND it comes with a largish entry-point monitor. Now all I need to do is change over the RAM for 2x2Gb (& NOT using the waaaaaay overpriced Dell option)!

  • None of the RAC coupons work for this computer

  • funny how that the deal that you reckon is better is actually cheapper without the cashoff price
and yeah definitely a better deal for just a hundred bucks more

  • Does anyone know if Dell PSU's can be upgraded? Custom upgrade that is. If I buy one, I will want to put in a better graphics card, and it seems there's a 250W PSU in it - maybe not enough?

    • The case is a slim design, you will have a hard time finding a replacement/upgrade PSU.

I would not recommend buying it with the hope to upgrade the PSU and graphics card and turn it into a gaming machine.

      • FYI - asked an online chat sales person if the PSU can be upgraded with an after-market PSU and they said yes.

    • I've opened my case on a dell comp, its just generic parts. So yeah you can swap them. However
      1) it voids the warranty
      2) the graphics card may be integrated with the motherboard, as dell produces their own mbs

EDIT: This was in a large "classic" case

i bet they only take slimline cards

they are not meant for huge expansion plans

  • After looking at the comments, one guy has had trouble putting in aftermarket pci cards. Looks like an OK deal but be I'd wary if you are looking for something that you can upgrade into a gaming machine or modify too much. In addition to this, the cheaper one ($699) would appear to only have VGA output rather than DVI, so no digital output to monitor or TV. the $799 one looks a reasonable deal though, with a bit of luck they didn't use up all their RAM slots with the 2GB and you could just shove in another 2GB stick (about $35).

    • There are only 2 RAM slots. The $799 system is 2x 1GB, so you will have to replace the RAM that came with the machine.

No thanks. I'm never, buying Dell.

Is this really a company that can be trusted?

    • +2

      no.

      • Don't want another email telling me it's a genuine pricing error again

        • +3

Then don't order obvious errors that're 80%+ lower than anywhere else.

I feel the love for Dell!

    Dell, never again.

The deal is so so. Yeah I agree too that Dell is sub-par when it comes to quality. IBM is much better. I use an ThinkCentre at work and a Dell at home. So I should know.

    • Vostro is their budget business line so the quality is indeed a bit sub-par. We have some OptiPlex at work and they are very different machines (in a good way). Same as Latitude vs. Vostro on notebooks.

Home products like Inspiron are probably even worse.

    -1 for a Dell deal.
