Belongs in forums, this is not a deal.

I'm in the middle of renewing my car insurance today.. AAMI policy is getting cancelled, they didn't want to match RACV's $627.

Figured I'd bang my details in for this deal to see what comes up and…

QBE came in at a very low $1155.20 with a HIGHER excess. Great deal, I'm sure they have lots of policy holders even without the 20% off!! /s

      • Tried that and they want an extra $300 plus over my existing policy with SGIC. Too bad, prices aren't going down. Won't bother calling in to price beat it lol.

Won't bother calling in to price beat it lol.

Let me call and go you halves…

    • Woolies for $100 off

    • Insurance is risk based so one insurer won't be the cheapest just because they are offering the largest discount.

Coles wanted to charge me 1600. I went with progressive for 800. QBE was 1100 without discount.

      • Coles wanted to charge me 1600

Coles will beat your progressive quote with there "price beat guarantee" all you have to do is ask.

Coles must be following the EB playbook then - charge over everyone else, but price-match for savy customers only. :-p

        • @Linkwick:

          Youi do the same…

          @crohns:

Apparently Youi consider driving to work to be work related travel and so you are not covered. Happened to a mate.

@Linkwick: And create the impression that they're always price competitive.

I actually quite like the model though - it's the same thing that allows Ozbargainers to do so well out of credit cards with fee waivers and free points, which is underwritten by all the consumers who pay the ridiculous interest rates.

remember not all insurance policies are the same…
not too sure about car policies but I know comparing an NRMA vs Coles home & contents can be vastly different

    always read the PDS !

    • What are the main differences?
Was there much difference in the price?

      • one of the main ones for me was being covered in the event of an unforced entry. i.e. if u forget to close your window and get things stolen. Coles doesnt cover u at all. NRMA provides limited cover (provided you follow correct process etc)

also differences in the cover of high value items like jewelry and watches.

but don't forget, products are constantly changing. so policies could have gotten better or worse.

from memory the annual difference in price was around $50-$100 dearer for NRMA. i dont consider that much for a year of insurance.

        • Thanks

        • in the event of an unforced entry.

If you leave your car unlocked you deserve to pay extra.imo

        • @crohns: agree. because other people shouldnt have to pay more for your mistakes

I was talking home and contents though… quite often my flatmate leaves her window open and I cant control that so I just buy an insurance policy

    LOL!!!!!

    $34xx QBE
    $1xxx Most Others
    $8xx Cheapest

    $34xx……what a joke QBE!

    • I wouldn't be surprised if $34xx was AFTER the 20% off either.

      • +1

indeed it is AFTER the 20% discount!
