  • Good deal!

Plenty of stock in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne

  • damn - every store in Sydney is closed today for Easter Sunday :(

  • For those that own one could you please share how much replacement toners cost and roughly how often you need to replace them? Also, do they do that dodgy "print head clean" that inkjets like to do but are actually a ploy by the manufacturer to chew through ink/toner? Having only ever owned inkjets I have no idea about these things.

    • +3

Laser printers dont have a "print Head" that needs cleaning, not really a inkjet ploy as it has to be done.
Can get toners for under $20 off ebay, genuine is over $80, don't bother with genuine though.

I must say the Epson Inkjet (WF-3540) I have I havent heard it make a head clean yet…

    • +1

I own this printer and love it. Connects without issue to WIFI (I print wireless from 2 MACs) … duplex printing is working great and the replacement toner I got from eBay for around 14$ is still going strong (I couldn't see any quality difference to the genuine toner which came with the printer.) Got it for $79 at the previous special and would highly recommend it.

      • +1

        I concur with mini_wombat.
Had mine for 9 month, not a single issue.
Fast printing, wireless & duplex work perfectly, nice quality prints.
I also buy toner from eBay, usually 2 for $21.99 ~ $23 delivered - didn't notice any difference in print quality.
Highly recommended, especially at this price.

      • I had some wifi issues with it. I believe I solved it by assigning it a permanent IP and reserving that IP for it. Otherwise it confused my PC.

      • hi mini_wombat, i was just wondering how you got it to duplex on your MACs, because for some reason I cant D:

        • Not really an expert … I just installed the print driver from the FujiXerox page:

          http://onlinesupport.fujixerox.com/processDriverForm.do?ctry…

The Duplex option is a bit hidden in the print menu:
When printing: On the bottom there is a dropdown menu where you can select "Printer features" —> a second drop down appears —> select Paper Handling —> Select "Duplex - Flip on long edge"

          See a screenshot here: http://imgur.com/9zySq47

          Hope this helps …

Aftermarket toner is incredibly cheap too

    http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601…

    Great deal, good find OP!

    • why did you neg the deal tho?

      • +8

Cos my finger slipped - spent the last 2 minutes frantically working out how to remove my neg vote sorry!

EDIT - seriously, negging my first comment because of a mistaken neg vote? Bloody hell there are some numpties on here.

  • Holy crap OW want $137 for a Toner for one of these lol just go to ebay.

  • It says it has a fixed drum- does that mean it is part of the toner cartridge? So every time you buy a new toner the drum effectively gets replaced? Just wondering if this printer costs a lot to run if you did need to buy the drum separately (doesn't look like it).

    • no its part of the printer.

  • wish it could scan. any good one for scan+print (laser)?

  • +1

I have one of these and highly recommend it, hasn't skipped a beat since 2013. Although I haven't used it enough to change the toner yet though, but they're pretty cheap off ebay.

If you're on inkjet - don't even think twice - get a laser, doesn't have to be this, but just get a laser. Inkjets SUCK!!!!!

  • Look at the review seem very bad, Why ?

    • +1

I did read those bad reviews too but I don't have any of those issues mentioned (losing wifi connection or not waking from sleep mode, slow to print, not installing). However, I did update the firmware to 1.13 as it was shipped with 1.10 (not sure what's the difference)

It's not the simplest printer to install but If you know how to install drivers/update firmware then it shouldn't be a problem - Does plug and play on window 8 if that's all you need to do.
I have it running wirelessly on PC and Mac printing duplex with no issues.
wakes up from low power sleep mode to print any time with no issues

      • Need help OZB; I bought this printer today and it is SLOW…

I updated the BIOS to 1.13 as a first step, then I downloaded and installed a Microsoft driver: 6.3.9600.16384. I did not use the setup CD.

All is good, but when I print wirelessly it is SUPER slow. Each duplex page takes about 20 seconds with all printer preferences set to default.

        Help.

Should I use the setup CD?

        • +1

          Problem solved:

Make sure you install the driver on the CD not the ones floating around the web…

        • @impulseshopper:

Hey, how did you setup wireless printing? I tried doing it through the cd, but it just doesn't work >.<

      • where did you get the updated firmware?

    • No idea … I personally believe its a good printer … I have no issues. Love the wireless printing and duplex.

    • +1

Seems like it took a while for the Windows 8 driver to come out. Also, earlier firmware had issues waking up (via wifi).

One of the complaints is the paper feeder sticking out (for A4). However, it is understandable. Some extra room is required for the duplexing unit.

USB + LAN + wifi + duplex + postscript + PCL for $50. Though updating the firmware seems to be a good idea.

    • +1

I have one. It was good when I first got it but now it just doesn't print unless you input the wifi key each time you use it. Quite annoying.

      • +1

Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

    • Yes I also had the 'does not wake up from sleep issue' and 'appears offline' issue.

Initially was working like a dream, but then this issue. Got really annoying as everytime I wanted to use it had to delete the printer and reinstall it.

The other day I did this and found that a new firmware had been released late last year for the driver. It has now been updated and will wait to see if this had solved the issue.

Besides this issue, it is a great printer for the money.

  • Sorry for sounding retarded but what is duplex?

    • +1

      Automatic double sided printing

      • really? very useful function

        • +1

It works amazingly. Back in uni I had to do it manually, and have to do calculations, telling the software to print every odd page, then putting it back in and telling it to print every even page from reverse order, but if the total number of pages was an odd number, then I'd have to do an extra step or two.

This, I just tell it to print in duplex and don't worry about it.

        • @lostn: Technology; making people dumber by the day. :)

  • I have one as well and i love it. Wireless wasn't just plug in the cd and sets up automatic for me so i couldnt be bothered.

    Auto duplex is freaken amazing.

  • Great printer, this.

Just a note for those looking to buy: The photo and display kinda lies about how much the tray protrudes. If you use A4 paper, the tray actually comes out quite a bit (14cm). The little thumbnail under "related products" is more accurate. Just keep that in mind if you wanna put it in any tight spaces or something.

  • Good grief!

It looks like a good deal for the money (duplex & wifi & all) but get a load of the "EZ" set-up (except "DO NOT choose "set-up", from the supplied disc or you're apparently screwed lol):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJVLgoXHBDk

Cheers & HTH those who do purchase (especially those with wifi issues)!

    ;)

  • No AirPrint!

  • Excellent printer I picked it up for $49 years ago, change this over to toner saving and I yield atleast 5000 pages. It works a treat for the stuff for all my CPA/work shit I have to print off at home.

Last night I actually bought a replacement toner. $18 bucks not bad!

  • Radelaide?

  • Grabbed one at Prahran.. (tried to palm off ex demo)

    Lots left

  • Thanks OP! Have been after a new printer.

  • +1

Only display unit left at oxley in brisbane
Saw the last boxed one go at 1030

    • There were only ones left in the centre aisle when I was there this morning. Thanks for the tipoff op - it's not the most robust but I think I'll keep me out of trouble for a while at least :)

  • Got one at Albury, two left!

  • none in Canberra. OW people say that one guy went to all the stores in the morning and picked up all the stock.
Not happy, OW should have put a limit of one per person or something

    • Broden, the Banksy of Bargains!

    • He probably owns a Cartridgeworld franchise. ;-)

  • Bought 2 now only 2 left at Five Dock NSW

  • For anyone wanting to set up wifi without using the instal CD, you can do this directly from the printer's interface.
Then you can access the printer via the web interface (u: 11111 p:x-admin) and set a static IP, and then install on your computers as normal! :)

  • 2 left in Geelong

  • +3

I have this printer, it's a bit loud when its running but it works really well, wireless connectivity and duplexing works perfectly. I've also used a Brother HL-2270DW (or similar) and this one is way better. The big thing is that you can select a wifi network and enter a password using the screen and buttons on the printer itself, unlike the Brother. This makes is much, much easier to set up.

  • I own one of these.
This is my comment on Product Review.
Main thing is update the Firmware, & update the generic driver.
This is not what I class as a heavy duty printer.
I have also been refilling the toners, as I was going through one a month. I also purchased a few spare toner chips but he appears to be out of stock.

  • Got 3 in Ringwood (Vic) today. They had quite a few apparently out back.

    • You bought 3 printers? Let me guess, you're the kind who doesn't believe in buying replacing toners?

      • 1 for the kids, 1 for the office and 1 for backup :)

  • +1

Beauty, went to Osborne Park WA and they only had display model left. Let me have it for $35….

  • Bought one this afternoon, last in store. Thanks OP!
Setup on wifi has been a breeze, and big stepup in quality from previous inkjet. Only down side is it doesn't seem to support airprint from ios out of the box as my old printer did.

  • Bing Lee has these for $69. Couldn't hurt to try price matching if you have one nearby.

  • Got the last one (On Display) at Nowra NSW this morning for $45.

    Shelf price was $149.00

    Very happy, thanks OP!

  • Love this printer, has been a dream since I got it.

  • Got the last (display model) at Lewisham for $45. Thanks OP

  • Anyone know where to buy cheap toners for Samsung ML2165? Ebay was showing 30.75 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1x-Toner-Cartridge-for-Samsung-ML…

Is it worth buying this for long term use?

  • Just received a message from Atop, in regards to spare toner chips. He has access to more :-

Other: atop sent a message about 1 x Toner Chip For Fuji Xero DocuPrint P255DW M255Z CT201918 CT201919 NEW #281616102521

New message from: atop (1626Red Star)
    Hi,

Yes ,of course. How many do you want ?

    Have a nice day!

Very handy when refilling Toner Cartridges, as I found not all the toner in each container was being used.

  • Picked up the last one at Prospect OW in SA, almost all the stores I rang are out of stock.
    .
Trinity Gardens had a display model but they couldn't sell it to me because it's missing a few things in the box.

    • I bought a display model, no box, just an envelope, which only has a Usb and power cable, a software disk, and a printed quick start and safety guide.

The software/ guides can be downloaded. Provided the toner cart is in the machine (mine was), see if they will sell it at a discount?

  • Got a display model for $20

  • Had a good play with it. Full on PCL6 network printer with auto duplex and passcode features. Can't do better for the $!

  • I was going past officeworks this morning and had to grab some paper . Thought I'd try my luck and just ask if they had one of these in stock and happened to deal with the manager . He let me have the last display model for $15 as they had lost the toner , drivers and anything else they come with . Offered me new toner at half price but they were like $130 so I declined and I'll just grab the $14 one off ebay .

    Thanks OP .
