Just notice Vodafone had FREE INTERNATIONAL Roaming on their $100 and $130 Red Plan

Pretty sweet for travelling around the world, free roaming means you don't pay any roaming charge when you are going overseas to looooooooots of countries.

Cheers

what do u mean by no roaming charge? meaning u can make free internationl calls from overseas?

oh.. it's just the $5 fee… i thought roaming was usually free anyway…

Hmm but $130 is my annual phone bill. Not sure it's worth it.

You must be a really "quiet" man.. :-)

      • Or he quits talking early ;)

I'm pretty sure getting a cheaper plan for Aus use and then buying a local sim would be a lot cheaper then getting a $100/month plan…

i guess you pay for the convenience of not having to change sims, figure out how to connect to a data plan by having to text this and that, and also telling your mates your new number.

also useful if you use your number for work and work reimburses you anyway

    • Agreed ProjectZero, it's extremely easy to get a data plan just need to google or walk in to any mobile network store. Plus most of us on OzBargain don't have that luxury to travel around the world, so it may be useful for 1-2 holidays but after that, you're just donating to Vodafone.

In the T&C's, international roaming can only be used for a max of 90 days per calendar year. So if you max it out, you can save up to $450/year or $37.5/month.

Useful if you travel a lot but not if you intend to be overseas for the majority of the year.

The roaming is excellent, I used the $5/day deal in my last business trip through Singapore, Hong Kong and China. The service transitioned seamlessly between all the countries and I could use all my Aussie data allowance.

    • oh doesnt cost extra to use data while roaming?
i thought any services used while roaming cost extra

      • $5 / day to the selected countries. Or free now if you're on the $100 plan lol

        • ah i see. I thought $5/day allowed you to USE it. but calls & data were charged at a premium rate.

          I guess not.

        • @edwinlin88: How things change… Wasn't it only 2 years ago when it was $20 / mb for data and $5.50 / minute to make a call?

      • Yeah it works as if you are in Australia, you get unlimited calls to back to Australia plus unlimited calls to phones in the country you are roaming in.

It's a great deal for traveling especially if you need to keep in touch with people for work.

For someone on the $80 plan (plus phone repayments pushing this to $87p/m), AND who travels overseas every 6-10 weeks, this is actually very good. Currently, I am charged $5 per day when I want to roam (and use my existing data/voice plan which I thought was good).

  • Could you just port over for your trip then port out when returning or is it contract only?

    • 24 months contract.

  • Is this for new user or current user?

I just contacted them - the free roaming (currently $5 per 24hrs) is valid if you change to this version of the "Red Plan", but you lose the bonus data of your old plan (if any) and you will NOT get the bonus data of the new plan.

You can change without resetting your contract (ie remaining months will be the same), and there will be no charge if you change to an equal price or higher contract. In my case I will lose data by changing, but pick up international minutes per month and my current $5 roaming will be for free - but it's probably not worth it in my case to have my data halved…
