  • good find! got one about a month ago but this is cheap!

    • +1

Same! I got one two weeks ago. This advertised price is already in itself cheap and since it's pay less for cash, I'd assume you'd be able to negotiate it to low to mid $1400. Oh well, hopefully others will benefit from this offer.

      • actually, depending on the gg store, they're suprisingly uptight about cheaper for cash on already cheap items.

i ended up paying for a 46w with cc cos of that.

  • damn it, I got toshiba 40" last month for $1200.
that's really cheap for sony bravia +ps3

  • So cheap, would buy this one, if I haven't bought TV a couple of weeks ago. Early this month, many people were happy to pay 1600 (search whirlpool forum at that time - cheapest was 1575, if I'm not mistaken). Well, good for anyone who patiently wait (probably will drop even lower if you wait until Dec? LOL :))…

    • Yeah, lowest advertised price before this was $1575 during the Melbourne Cup weekend. After that I think many found it difficult to get it below $1600 since the demand was high, retailers refused to budge. Now with this advertised price, many retailers will have to at least match it.

I had a feeling the price would drop but I bought one anyway since the PS3 counter was dropping so quick! And whaddya know, they added 10,000 units right after I bought it.

      • Haha, marketing tactic I guess, same with Panasonic that just added 8000 more. I've been told by a friend in DSE that they'd never run out of stock until the last day of promotion (as they're the one making it), so the number should never be a consideration to buy it earlier. I ended up buying anyway, because from past experience, Nov price is somehow better than Dec price (didn't think it dropped that quick in a week)

  • Good deal…

This deal is a week old, My local GG at warners bay Newcastle and a few others in sydney had this deal last weekend, plus they had a 10% off panels the same weekend, bringing the price down to $1350. thats what i paided, i have a reciept if anyone want its for haggling/bargaining power.

    • This deal only starts today. Your local GG may have that price over the weekend but it did not apply to every GG Australia wide, whereas I'm pretty sure this one does.

      • No it was my local store and a few others in sydney, but i wa told by a salesman that theres gunna be another 10% of panels weekend this weekend.

THOUGH I DOUBT THERE WILL BE ANY PS3'S LEFT BEFORE THE WEEKEND

        • Agreed! Only 9,626 (17/11/09, 2.45pm AEDST) left so there is a high chance no more left after this week.

        • In any case, I find that it's much easier to get a price matched or beaten with an advertised price as compared to a receipt. So I guess the advantage of this deal is that it's Aus wide and not in selected stores only.

Ooh, just checked the counter for PS3, down to 9600. That's quick, considering they only added 10,000 a week ago.

        • another 10% off advertised prices? wow. where will the ads be? cos i need to get my 46w price matched before 1st Dec! (got it on 1st nov from gg)

          • @kimmik: Oh, I got mine around the same time as you too. I was just looking at their 30 days price guarantee. I understand that they offer 120% refund of the price difference as advertised in catalogues. But I think this 10% discount that the poster is referring to is usually only advertised in individual stores, not in catalogues. So I'm guessing they're only going to refund you the 120% difference excluding the 10%.

            • @ohsnap: bums. maybe they could lax the rule for their own store sales =P

              • @kimmik: Haha, I wish they would too! Only my assumption though, maybe you can call them up and try.

    • Please send me a copy of your receipt. Thanks!

    • yeah ppl drove all the way to Newcastle to get this.. really great price

    • bought one from warners on saturday for $1300.
picked it up on sunday and wanted to buy another one but they wouldnt do it at the same price, said it was a pricing error and wouldnt even come close.

      • lucky you!

      • hey mate
can you upload your reciept on here or send it to me: [email protected]

    • Yes though you have to WAIT 6 WEEKS to get your 10% back. and tv prices will be 10% buy then anyway, maybe cheaper

      • I suppose waiting a bit to get the cashback is not too bad, as long as you actually get the gift card to use in store before the PS3 counter drops to 0!

        • Yes, thats right. Counter will be at Zero by monday easily. giftcards will take 2-3 days to get send to you……..theres no point to that offer, it would be easier to go to GG get a cash, right now price of $1400 which is easy done. then get JB to do $1350…..simple

@snow36009: Even if it does, I do think they'll add another batch. But that's what I believe :)…

The PS3 off offer is expected to last until the 22nd of November give or take…..the offer will then become a blu ray player until the end of December. All the artwork is done its just waiting to start….get in NOW if you want a PS3.

    • +1

wooooo got any other insider information? we'll pay you…. respect

      • +1

The tv is below cost…the stores will stop the offer as soon as the catalogue ends…..another retailer pissed them off a few weeks back so this is to stick it up em…

    • Thats what they salesman at HN told me today about the blu ray player instead of the PS3.

  • +1

Just rang my local store and they won't budge, said they're going FAST and it's below cost price. Of course sounds like typical sales bullshit to me..

    • They won't budge meaning they won't match this price or they won't go lower than this price?

      • They won't go lower than this price for cash.

I live in Darwin though so is it likely that they are around cost price factoring in higher freight costs? Maybe they really can't budge.. dunno.

    • Maybe go in store and try again or try to get another retailer to "beat" it. Otherwise wait for the weekend, since someone above said they might run a 10% deal then.

In any case, even if you can't get it any lower, this is already a very good deal (as long as you get it before the PS3 runs out). You'd be better off than many who bought this TV for the PS3 deal at the start of this promo and paid over $1700 for it.

      • Agreed. I went to WOW before to get a price match but the guy there totally confused me with all his sales speak and I left with nothing. He laughed at the idea the TV could sell for $1498 saying again it's below cost… best he would do was $1699.

I will go in 9AM tomorrow with the catalogue print outs and ask for me 1498 + 10% off.. will be awesome if I get it. I should've done that in the first place but I expected the sales guy to have some idea what he was on about. If he won't do it or at least match then I'll head to GG.

also i will have a reciept 2moro for between $1250-$1300 for the same TV, as i have it on hold

    • aweeesome price. thanks. though i'm expecting gg at caringbah to spit it back at me even if they swallow it to begin with.

    • upload to tinypic.com as the links dont work

  • Thanks Snow.. I will be picking one up tomorrow.

Since im in Vic will they even look at this receipt?

    • No harm trying! But it should be noted that Snow got that great price as his local GG was doing a 10% off the ticketed price. Unless your local retailer is doing the same, I think many retailers won't go near that price. I guess my point is don't be too disappointed if you can't get it matched.

      • yeah. anyway, as a reference point, ingrammicro.com.au (a wholesaler of sony) has the:

        40w5500 $1936 inc
        46w5500 $2326 inc

soo….. i dont think retailers are exactly happy about selling them at 1500 and 1850 respectively.

though yes, ingrammicro is negotiable too…

        • Yup, that's true. In fact I just spoke to a mate who has put an order in for this TV today and he said his salesman wasn't too happy to see this price and would only match it at most.

        • is there anywhere I can still find 46" for 1.8K??

          • @danz84: i went to jbhifi moorepark an hour ago and got a second 46w for my dad's workplace… tried my very best, got $1971 for the TV, and $129 for JB's 2yr extra warranty.

Peter from JB moorepark said that while Sony discounted their TVs by 10% during the HN sale, they've raised it back up (donno by how much), so he cant do any lower.

Another sales person told me that 2100 was their "cost" price according to their database

            • @kimmik: yesterday i went to GG and saw the 46 inch for 1898..which is quite good price… i'm thinkin of getting that one.

          • @danz84: Good guys & Bing Lee were both willing =)

  • Wish i waited!

  • I'll wait for 50 inch special DEAL!! :) …and price drop. he he he

For anyone in the Brisbane area, RT Edwards offers to beat an advertised price by 10%:
    http://content.rtedwards.realviewtechnologies.com/djvu/World…

  • 3 weeks ago people on this forum managed to find their 40W at around $1500-$1600
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?r=21298670#…

    • Yes, I mentioned this above. During the Melbourne Cup weekend, there was a so called price war where HN dropped the price from $1700+ to $1546. So most retailers had no choice but to match that price.

After that sale ended, ticketed price was back to normal and people found it harder to bargain it down to $1546. Prices hovered around $1600 - $1700. So this 'advertised' price will ensure they get it as low if not lower than the HN price.

  • They definitely don't seem to want to budge on price, even offering cold hard cash. In this case, there is not reason why you wouldn't use a credit card and hit them with a nice merchant fee. Even $10-$20 off for cash would see them ahead.

  • Retravision matched price of $1498.00 for the TV, PS3 and 3 year warranty, with credit card. They had three still in stock. They also gave 50% off HD cable, but I couldn't wangle one free. Initially called around proposing the $1350 deal as posted earlier and got laughed at a couple of times like I was dreaming. On the phone JB wouldn't come to the party or even come close, they also needed to order in and were firm at $1831.00. Happy so far, (it's my first flat screen) :D even though it's still in the box.

    • Woot, enjoy your new TV! Send off your PS3 claim soon and you'd probably receive it within next week. :D

      • Already done (online), just need to post off all the docs tomorrow. Hehe, anyone interested in a brand new PS3?

  • +1

Ok, I also got laughed at one of the GG stores for the $1350 price even though i showed them a copy of the above.

They would ONLY take off 1 F&^$%^# dollar when i asked him for the cash price!! So i walked out.

JB were much nicer and matched GG price and took off a further $98.00 to bring the KDL40W5500 to $1400 when i showed them the GG catalogue which i nearly went for at JB but they had no stock.

In the end i ended up with the Eco Series model KDL-40WE5 for $1498 which they have listed at $1996

Just finished setting it up and registered for the 3yr w'ty and my free PS3! :)

  • +2

i got it for $1350 from RT edwards :)

    • Hey, Nice work Mate. theres a few people getting it now for $1350 with my receipt……good to see its helping. now the retailers should bring their prices down….

      • If I'm not mistaken, RT Edwards' policy is to beat any advertised price by 10%.

        • correct, i didn't use your receipt snow36009, only teh GG catalogue.

          • @leeroys_dad: what is RT? is is retravision, I was not that lucky with GG cannington, Western Australia, I went there and they said they only do pricematch dockets from WA , since they have to calculate the freight and all those kind of craps, I will try JB tonite..

            • +1

@danz84: No, RT is not Retravision. I'm not very familiar with RT Edwards as well but I've googled them previously and I think they only have stores in QLD.

I think you should definitely try other stores, doesn't have to be GG, try other retailers too. I am sure you'd find a store which will at least match it. I've seen people using interstate receipts with no problems, plus this is an actual catalogue.

    • gotbean, which RT edwards did you go to? I'm hoping to try for this tonight… also, was it very difficult getting them to beat it?

      • +2

i went to oxley… apparently the last one there? i did organise it through the alderley store because that's my local one (they offered to courier it to the alderley store but that would take 2 days). give them a call though and see if there is stock

it wasn't hard, they just couldn't believe the price. make sure you ask for the 10% discount, otherwise they will only pricematch. you also need a GG catalogue (NOT an online printout). Plenty of GG catalogues in store though.

        good luck

        • Thanks, just called, only display models left apparently (for all stores). :(

          • +1

@Evil-Elmo: dang. good guys might price match their 10% off? wouldn't hurt to ask.
i'm picking up a tax invoice tonight (from alderley store) if you would like it?

            • +3

@leeroys_dad: I have one on hold with GG (with no discussion of price) so will try getting a price match to $1350, but I doubt they'll do it. RT said they'd order one in, but then I fear I might not get it in time for the PS3. If GG won't lower the price I might just bite the bullet at get it at $1498 (which is in itself a good price, just not as good as $1350!). Thanks for your help. :)

        • +1

I wonder if there are going to be any other deals like this before xmas? I would definately hold out if there were to bring out a 46 or 50 inch deal!

          Am i dreaming to much?

  • gotbean,

I'm interested in this, mind if you send that invoice to me? [email protected]
Is it possible to get this down to $1350, i live in Jimboomba near Browns Plains, would be willing to drive a fair distance?? For the 1350 deal, what places do you think i should go to?

    • please can you upload it somewhere so I can grab it too?

      • +1

sorry guys, my invoice said i had an outstanding balance (full amount) because i ordered from 1 store and pickup/pay from another. i didn't get around to getting a reprinted invoice yesterday, sorry.

rt edwards apparently have no more in stock, and won't honour the 10% discount anymore apparently. they can order them, but u will probably miss out on the ps3 offer (however, if most stores across aus are sold out, there will be a period of not many claims)

  • Hi folks,
I've been around to Dick Smith, Harvey Norman, JB and Good Guys. None of them drop $1 off $1498. They don't care abour cash or card. I did not take in the receipt on this page.

However, I got offered the 46" W Series at $1900. Is that a good price? Not sure whether to go for 40" at $1500 or 46" at $1900 :S

    Any advice

    • +2

I think that really depends on the size you prefer based on your viewing distance and budget. It's really entirely up to you on the size.

As for the price, the $1900 you got offered for 46" is an okay price, but not fantastic. Think the lowest advertised price for that was around $1850 so far during the Melbourne Cup weekend. I have a friend who got it for $1780 a week back (but he went with another friend who also made the same purchase so I suppose they had more bargaining power). I know that the the 46" is usually about $300 more than the 40", so if you can get it down to $1800, then I'd say the deal is as good as this GG one (ie you'd have to decide based on your preference for size rather than price).

      Hope that helps.

      • No one budges on price:) Any last minute tips?
How do you guys get the 40 for 1350 and 46 for 1800. What should I do/say to get those sort of prices. I already have a 40 so wouldnt mind going upto 46.
        Cheers

        • The $1350 price that a poster above got was because his GG had 10% off on top of the ticketed price ($1498). Another poster got that $1350 because he bought it from RT Edwards in QLD and their policy is to beat any advertised price by 10%. So the 2 who got it at such low price didn't actually have to bargain for it, which is the hard part (I am crap at it).

Like mentioned above, this price is actually already great and many retailers are not very happy about it, so will probably just match it. Don't be too disappointed if they aren't willing to beat it because only a minority are getting it at $1350.

If every retailer is offering you the same deal then for a little peace of mind, get it from one which offer 30 days price guarantee (eg: HN/GG not JB). Also, someone said above some GG might be doing a 10% off this weekend, so that's an option if you're willing to wait and see.

  • no..i just bought the KDL40W5500 less than a week ago from GG at $1850. Do you guys think that they will honour the difference considering that I bought it just few days ago? The sales rep kept telling me that is the best they can offer. I am so not happy. I have been a regular customer, bough a new fridge, GPS and few other staffs from the same store before.

    • Yup, if you bought it from a GG then you're more than likely able to get back your money. GG has a 30 days price guarantee, if within 30 days AFTER you purchase, you find a lower advertised price, they will refund you 120% of the difference. So bring your tax invoice and go get your money back. :)

      • From the fine print it says .."advertised by a local competitor"..so not sure if they will honour it if it's from their own advertisement. I am not after the 120% but just want to get at least get the newly advertised price.

        • Hm, never thought of it that way. But it'd seem kind of silly if they guarantee their prices against a competitor but not their own. Maybe give the store a call tomorrow and see what they say. Speak to them nicely and hopefully they'd work something out. Good luck!

          • +1

@ohsnap: Best Buy Electrical has it advertised at $1499, perhaps you can use their catalog to obtain your refund from GG if they don't honour your claim.

            http://www.bestbuyelectrical.com.au/specials.htm?97304

            • @dkhchen: I also saw this TV at Harvey Norman for $1498 today. HN Indooroopilly, Brisbane. I don't think it's any catalouge of theirs though. They probably dropped the price after seeing the GG deal.

          • @ohsnap: Thank you all for the advice and the info. I just went back to GG and they have honoured the price difference. The Sales Person was only giving me back the difference by giving me the selling price of $1489.

While the cashier was processing the refund, I asked her on how does the 120% price guarantee works. She wasn’t sure and referred it to another cashier. It works out that I get even more $ back. May be the sales person was still trying to avoid honouring the 120% price guarantee. Anyway, I am now paying $1,427.60 instead of $1850. Can't complain.

It works out well that I bought it few days ago and then get the difference re-funded, as they have ran out of stock. This GG store not accepting order anymore at $1498.

Also, Sony has just validated my PS3 claim and I should get it delivered in a few weeks time!

            • @Dan Tan: Congrats, happy it worked for you. A few weeks time? You'd most likely get it by next week! I got mine 3 days after validation. :)

  • Hmm I think I got a good deal I paid 46Z5500 $2300ish for mine with PS3 that did not that very long to get here at all.

  • Went to GG yesterday. Guy says one stock left (apparently someone cancelled their deposit that morning). $6 off for cash. I smiled and walked out, GG catalogue in hand…straight over to JB Hi-fi.

After an attempt to push extended warranty, surge protector and HDMI cable on me (all of which i rejected politely) he offered the 40" for 1398. Done deal. Took it home same day.

P.S. There were 4 in stock at the Castle Hill store JB Hi-fi. They apparently had not had any GG catalogue customers yet…

  • JB HI-FI Chadstone had it priced at $1490 last night and had stock.

  • I went to JB Hi-Fi today and was offered $2100 for the 46Z5500 which retails for around $3000. I think about 2 weeks ago someone managed to get it for $2067? Haven't decided which to get, the 46WE5 (operational at 140W) or 46Z5500 (185W). Which would work better for a computer monitor as well?

    • the W is better TV then WE as the colours on the WE are more washed out. The salesperson Told me that cause WE has less lighting tube in the back. the lights are turn on bright then the W series making it look washed outs. He said to look at the Blacks. and u see it..instead of being black it was more grey. I didnt believe him so he reset botht the TV and showed me saying he didnt play with any setting and you clearly tell. But I got the W and the Z aswell

      • Bollocks. The default setting for the WE5 is lower light than the W5500 because that is a feature of the TV that uses less power. You can turn up the backlighting on the WE5 then it is equivalent to the W5500 in brightness.

  • btw guy those who are getting 1350 well done. but saleperson told me it was a fake invoice and they were not doing that price cause its under cost.. $1500 for TV on sale.
GG had a 10% off sale at that store.
      $1350 price is legit.
Same with the $2067 for the 46Z as the buyer matched the Harvey Norman deal of $2297 and then asked for 10% off as JB had 10% off all LCD's.

Just because its below "cost price" doesn't mean it can't be real ;)

    • +1

Hey do you believe everthing a salesmen says?????

its my $1350 reciept, and its not fake. it was a deposit reciept and i canceled it the next day because i showed it to jb and they beat it.

so there is no record of a "sale" on GG computers……

also if harvery norman took 30seconds longer on the phone to talk to the salesman named on the receipt DANIEL R. and ask him about selling tv for $1350 instead of just asking if they are selling tv's for $1350…they would of got a different answer….

This reciept is not fake, there are many retailers saying its fake because they cant believe that GG would sell it that cheap and they dont wanna sell them that cheap….

it was ticketed at $1498 and there was a 10% off panels weekend, work that one out
