I'm not convinced the Lumia 830 is a very good buy.

For about $100 less, the Lumia 735 has the same processor…only catch is the camera isn't as good.

    • +1

I have the 735 and cannot fault it, the screen is excellent and never had an issue with the performance. Although the main camera isnt as good as the 830, I am finding that the 5mp front camera is being used way more than I ever thought.

My biggest annoyance with the 735 is the onscreen 'buttons' for back, home & search. They just arent as good as having dedicated buttons.

      • +1

The 830 also has a dedicated camera shutter button which, for some reason, the cheaper Lumias don't offer anymore.

        • You answered your own question there. Cost cutting.

On the topic of dedicated shutter buttons, I'm bewildered that it isn't a thing on Android phones. Only Sony has them.

        • @TheContact: HTC also has them but they have a different feel to Sony's

      • You can adjust settings to fix the onscreen buttons so they don't hide

    • +1

That's the biggest problem Lumia series have, imo. There is no reason to buy something better (until you go to Flagship line, it was actually all the same processor with different amount of RAM and camera during x20s series, at least as far as I remember, barring 1020 and 1520, so in that regards x30s at least differentiate between flagships and the lower range).

    • +1

That $100 extra buys you better build quality, band 28 support, better camera and slightly bigger screen. I know I'd prefer the Lumia 830, however I still think it's too expensive.

  • Don't forget the DS gift cards http://search.dicksmith.com.au/search#w=Gift%20cards%20dick%…. They have worked with discount codes before but can't seem to test it yet. Might also be able to use discounted wish cards to purchase these too.

    • Excludes Apple, Beats By Dre, Kindle, UE Boom & Megaboom Products, Samsung Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge, Pre-paid Mobile & Broadband Products, Calling Cards, iTunes and App Store Gift Cards, Dick Smith Gift Cards, Xbox Live and PSN Cards, Gaming Software & Gaming Pre-Orders and selected advertised lines (GE4003, TA8077).

      • +1

I know gift cards are excluded but I'm saying discount codes have worked before with them. No harm trying.

EDIT: Gift cards have now been removed. If anyone was wondering they were $50 and $100 gift cards discounted by 7.5%. Hopefully they appear again.

  • Code wouldn't work for me for the G710 but did for the G910 ( which isn't available near me )

  • +1

Super effort keeping the post updated with new items and removing stuff that has sold out! That is an impressive number of revisions!

    • Tell me about it! Those bloody Harmony remotes keep changing to out of stock once codes arrive :( Then I had to remove yesterday specials because they reverted back to full price :)

STUPIDLY good deal for the Z906. Would highly recommend if you have a need for them. I'd love to buy a set but don't have the setup needed :( Cheapest I've ever seen.

    • +1

Having trouble finding the Z906 instock in Melbourne.

    • Wondering if the Z906 is good enuf for a small living room? Is this equivalent or better or worse than the speakers from a HITB setup?

      • +4

We have them in our large living room and they are excellent, I completely recommend them. We paid $269 from msy I think. It's so nice watching shows and movies in surround sound.
I'm sure you could get better sound from fancy expensive speakers but the value on these is amazing in my opinion.

        • Thanks for that feedback littleannie

        • I can vouch for the great quality and value from my Z906 as well. I got it from the MSY sale too… I did a pricematch at OW though :)

      • +15

Is this equivalent or better or worse than the speakers from a HITB setup?

They're heavily geared towards gaming and movies and designed to be driven by compressed PC audio, so their soundstage is heavy on the bass but with an acceptable mid-range that doesn't disappear at higher volumes. I'd wager they are better than your generic, sub-$500 Philips, Samsung or Panasonic bundled Home Theatre packages primarily because the Z906s are actually 500 watts, not 500 watts PMPO and the THD for the satellites (>10% @ 3.85Khz) is by far and away lower than 90% of bookshelf speakers found in Mini Hi-Fi units and cheap, 5.1 Home Theatre sets. The Z906s also have better connectivity than a lot of those Home Theatre sets; 2 x optical, 1 x digital coaxial, 1 x Six Channel 3.5mm, 1 x RCA, 1 x 3.5mm. It's also a lot more compact than those ridiculous tallboy speakers you get with those 5.1 sets.

Where they won't stack up against Home Theatre sets is decoding (they only do Dolby Digital and DTS) and lack of HDMI; but for budget setups I doubt that matters to most buyers.

The only thing they don't pull off too well (and this is widely reported by owners) is music that isn't Rap/Hip Hop/Techno/Electronic; the highs just aren't there when they're needed and vocals can be very indistinct (there's a gap in the frequency range that roughly correlates to a male's vocals). Because there's no tweeters and one driver in each satellite speaker, it has to cover a majority of the frequency response range and when you have very layered Orchestral, Rock, or Metal songs, certain sounds are just not represented.

You won't be going anywhere near full volume though, even if you have a 70sqm living room. They're more than loud enough and powerful enough to shake windows and piss off neighbours.

Smaller living rooms should also be able to get some decent spacing with the speakers as you get 3 x 5m cables for the L/R/C and 2 x 7.5m for the Rears. I'd recommend wall-mounting though if you're not adverse to drilling holes in your walls; there's very cheap and very easy-to-setup wall mounting kits on Ebay (I got one for about $40 dollars; that's for all 5 speakers with all the parts required).

wow. that is a very comprehensive reply. Thanks Amar89.

        • You seem like you know what youre on about… What entry level amp and speaker combo would you recommend that is better than the Z906? ie the cheapest receiver paired with any 5 speaker + sub combo - not a HTIB bluray player set up?

        • TL:DR for Z906 compared to Z623? You reckon big difference or not if it's in small room?

    • +1

I pulled the plug on these speakers on a deal early last year, it was for $253.

      OzBargain

Very good speakers, handy remote control also.

  • Where can I find some $1 items?

    • +4

Search batteries or $2 SIM cards

Another good deal is the Philips Big Display DAB+ for $74.00 (after BIG25 code) with click and collect. http://www.dicksmith.com.au/philips-big-display-dab-dsau-c48…

    Recommended retail price $129.00
Previous OzB best price: $75.18 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/157551

    EDIT

Forgot to mention, I already own one of these. It's been incredibly reliable for the last couple of years despite being transported, knocked/dropped, partially-drowned etc. The auto-dimming is fantastic (unlike the Philips AJ3230 which it replaced). My only complaint is that it doesn't have a dual alarm and there is no backup battery.

    • Thx for the info… I want to use it in my car… is this any good for that?

      • no.

no back up battery so clock would reset everytime you stop.
        plus it is 240volts

    • I bought the Philips Big Display DAB+ for $74.00 and am very happy with it. Thanks, OzDJ_.

  • trying to add the z906 speaker for click and collect, also adding the next cheapest item for click and collect. It keeps telling me to "You must select a store for Click and Collect or remove the items from your Click and Collect basket before checking out". Am I doing something wrong? I've chosen a store.

  • Why did this post show up on my Android Feed ? wrong tag ? I can't find it now.
    Anyways, decent deal..

  • The Sony SRS-X2B Portable Wireless Speaker is on sale at $88. Add an item at $11 or more to get your total up to $99 and use the BIG25 code for $25 off. You can pick the XB2 up for ~$75 with an audio cable and a cheap screen protector or battery.

  • Awesome bought the Changhong 40" full hd TV for $420

  • +1

    Thanks

Saved me spending $650 on Bose speakers

  • Couldn't get any C&C on the Z906 in Melbs. The $35 delivery ruined the deal :(

    • It looks like delivery fees have gone up since they started using Toll. An item I had delivered for $9.95 a few weeks ago is now $34.95

    • +1

Try Sunbury, ROAD TRIP….they still have stock!!!

  • can you pick up on the same day?

  • Anyone in Perth want to split it? I only have an $80 spend.

  • What is this $1 item you mention in the deal?

    • +1

You need to spend $300 to get $50 off so since the Logitech Z906 is $299, making the total over it qualifies for the discount!

Tried to buy an Xbox one, but doesn't seem to be accepting the code. Doesn't seem to be listed as an exclusion though…

    • +2

Same with PS4, tried bundle and standalone console

      • +1

Yeah same here, frustrating as $510 for the bundle is pretty attractive.

  • No deal on the Fitbit charge HR. Would have snapped one up. Keeping an eye out as I missed the previous deals

  • Cant use the code for the sony tv 48" w600B

    • Should be able to

      • Lol stupid dick smith, it's not even near the best price, rem the $498 from The good guys a few months back

  • Anyone have any luck with this on PS4's?

  • Sunbury have stock of the z906 in Melbourne.

  • LOGITECH Z906 + $1 ITEM $250 is a very good deal. If this deal was on when they have 20% off ebay tech I'd rather bought this over Z623

  • The Lumia 735 + $21 worth of other items is a great deal. It works out slightly cheaper than just getting the Lumia on its own.

  • Got the N2830 model of the Acer 11.6" laptop for $287.25 incl. delivery in Sept. 2014 at 20% off eBay sale from TGG on this deal. Very happy with the E3-111-C29F once I upgraded to 4GB RAM and SSD making the performance acceptable. Small, light and fanless so silent. The upgrade makes a big performance difference/improvement and at that price, it's tempting to do the same if the N2840 model has same/similarly or better features.

  • i wanted to get the sony 50" 700B didnt buy (boxing day 699)

    now its 899 "clearance" - 90 = $809

still cant bring myself to pay the extra $110

  • I just can't bring myself to buy another Logitech. Over the last 7 years, I've been through three.

Time for some good powered monitors.

  • anyone else getting this error message - Coupon code "BIG50" is not valid.

Trying to get the z906's for $250 have a $2 item in cart making it total $301 still says code is not valid ?

    • Ended yesterday m8 :(
