eBay Big Sunday (28th Sept) - 20% off The Good Guys Store on eBay

21027
CGOODGUYS20

WARNING
Lots of reports of price hiking prior to the sale, therefore do your research before purchasing. I've seen some decent deals on some items, but others the Not So Good Guys have done the sneaky!

Official Response from The Good Guys:

We definitely do not increase our prices before a sale. We maintain competitive prices that fluctuate with the market. We currently have a sale running from 7pm-7am on certain items, which is why our prices may appear to be increasing during the day.

i had a horrible experience purchasing a fridge from the good guys ebay from the last ebay promo. absolutely no communication & still not posted & they don't respond to my messages. the fridge was advertised as available and >10 in stock. i strongly advise against purchasing from them.

    • +7

I had a fantastic experience purchasing a fridge from the good guys ebay from the last ebay promo. Purchased at 10am Sunday. I rang Good Guys at 3pm Sunday to organise delivery, the fridge was delivered at 10am the following day.

      • +33

mattgal, contact stratbargain - sounds like he's got your fridge! :)

        • +1

Although felt sorry for mattgal, this cracked me up :)

    • +7

your alternative is to buy from Harvey norman

Comes with a free wrist slashing

But on a more serious note

      TO SAVE EVERYONE THE TROUBLE

A summary of the comments below essentially range from

      "Shitty experience"
      "cant pickup in store"
"still havent delivered my last order"
      "poor communication"

      and most importantly

"postage and prices already/will be jacked up for this sale"

TL:DR - Dont bother with this sale

    • +3

Bought a dishwasher last sale. Got a call 30 minutes later from my local store and delivered same day

    • +6

      @mattgal…

      Nice try Mr Harvey

    • Sounds like you should do a credit card chargeback.

    • +1

my other big gripe is my purchase was assigned to a store which is nowhere near me, even though there is a store much closer to me.

      • Yeah it'd be nice to be able to have collect from store option with free shipping. You can't even do this with their online store - the pick up only works if the store you chose actually has stock.

That said, I had a good experience buying a good toaster from their ebay store a few weeks back. I'd use them again

        • +1

So, I specifically asked the Good Guys ebay store about picking up an item I was interested in. They said no way, even though they have several stores near me with stock.
So I just went into a local store and asked if they could match the price. They said they didn't think so but they'd check with the owner and give me a call.
          Still waiting.
If there was a way to avoid the ridiculous delivery fee I would be buying a chest freezer from them. If not, I just don't know…

    • over two weeks later i'm still waiting for my fridge. not in stock even though it was advertised as available. pity, it was at a good price but i'm going to have to raise a paypal dispute very soon.

  • +1

Before it gets asked, there was varying levels of luck trying to pick up in-store and have delivery refunded in the previous few eBay sales. Depends on your store really.

    • +3

The original post should be upgraded with a big disclaimer that picking up at store is not part of their policy and is done at your own risk. Always too many people complaining afterwards.

    • I think they are on to it at least in the west, was given a line around no pickups for eBay purchases, your best bet would be to turn up early on Monday for collection

      • The good guys have had a policy change. They won't refund the postage costs anymore. Although I talked them into giving me the amount as a credit. Better than nothing.

    • No, depends on stock levels of your store. If you ask the clowns at TGG ebay customer service it is always a no. Call the store and you have a good chance of getting a yes.

  • +10

Bet the prices will be adjusted before the sale commences.

    • +12

I'd like a dollar for every time that's been said.

      • +4

You'd be richer than a fart in a shower.

        • +4

All that porkandbeans gotta escape somewhere

  • I wonder how you could collude with TGG.

I wish the discount was more than $100 though. Need a new tv

    • +1

Second that. The deal is not that great because the saving is capped to $100.

  • +2

I got excited seeing their Gaming and Console section..

    It's a bunch of generic batteries :I

    • +16

      Are they eneloops?

      • +2

        Lol. Disposables

    • +2

Bro, dont tell me you havent played batteries?! before?
      Shit is off da chain!

  • +4

Not again! Still haven't recovered from the eBay B'day sale. They're draining my wallet. Still have to save up for Xmas…argh

    • +5

      just buy now
and open it when it is xmas

    • +18

Don't become a slave to consumerism. It doesn't end well friend. Regardless of the discount, not spending anything at all is still winning.

      • +8

I love how Tyler Durden is commenting "just buy now" when that character would actually be anti-consumerism… and Fry is warning against consumerism when Stephen Fry in reality is quite an open, joyful compulsive buyer/spender lol… though most likely a side effect of his illness.

(not having a stab at either of you guys - I love both your characters/people) :)

        • I was referring to his case…

since he seems to be a strong consumer, it is hard to stop him

        • @tyler.durden: I know man. It was a light-hearted post (more just to amuse myself really lol). As I said, it's not making a comment on either of you guys personally :)

  • contentious point, but is ozbargain 'conclusive conduct'?

  • +2

i wish GG put iPads and iPhones on their ebay site!

    • +1

I think they are not authorised by apple for ebay sales. (purely guessing)

  • Thanks OP. This is good timing for me!

  • I bought smart watch on last big Sunday..I got it but absolutely no communication until I contacted customer service..

  • Great deal, thanks OP!

  • What are potential good buys this Sunday?

  • Not sure what to buy… Maybe a printer…

  • Ohh I Like this a lot. Thanks OP :)

  • Waiting for something to match how great the BBQ sale was. Every time I see my Weber I can't believe I got it for under $200.

    • +7

      Tom is waiting as well.

  • Great. WIll use this to grab a Moto G, I think. Be great if TGG restock all the different models in time.

    • Good price for Moto g 2nd but sad we don't have Moto x 2nd yet.

      Good guys FAIL!

      • Not interested in the 4G, but that might help other OzB users. I'm only interested in the original or the gen 2 Moto G. JB have the original for a reasonable price right now, but I'll see what Sunday brings.

      • +1

Anyone expecting TGG to have the best price on every item is guaranteed disappointment.

      • +2

        297 - 29.7*2
        297 - 59.4 = 237.6

Good Guys Win! Local stock + after sales support.

Bought the Moto 4G in the last 20% off sale on eBay for same price. Great phone for price, and I can make use of my Vaya 4G.

        • Indeed. 297*0.8.

        • +3

Lol, maths fail! Don't know how I didn't see that, thanks.

  • +1

Had bad experience. Won't let me pickup in store but the packaging is totally inadequate and goods arrive damaged.

    • they let me pickup - same morning as I paid - back in July.
I was super impressed, buy on ebay at 10am, goods in hand 11:30 am

      • I got to pickup in store and they refunded the shipping fee. Worked a treat.

    • They had no issues with me picking it up and having the postage refunded as store credit - not as good as cash but better than nothing.

  • Is there any way to use a good guys gift voucher for payment?

    • No.

  • -1

GTFO!!! i just paid my cc……..

  • +1

damn i bought a bunch of Weber accessories during the last ebay 15% off sale haha.

I do see Good Guys increasing their postage cost during this sale, they did it with the last 50% off BBQ deal and I'm sure they will do it again since postage isn't part of the discount.

  • +3

You can buy now and pay Sunday as usual?

    • Do you mean we can buy now with the 20% discount if you pay for the good on Sunday?

  • Had a very good experience with TGG ebay store. Items got delivered very next day.

  • +1

I bought a camera bag from GG and they sent me the wrong bag.
    Poor customer support aswell

  • +33

Prices have already been jacked up. THIS used to be $499 at TGG, now $547, and postage has gone from $5 to $5.18

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Asus-T100-10-1-Intel-Atom-Pro…

did better on one of these on the recent ebay 15% off sale, scored at $378 and though it was from a different named seller it was shipped from Centercom. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASUS-Transformer-Book-T100-10-1-I…

    TGG=scam & profiteer

Just close all your stores, go online and give us cost + 5% TGG, FFS.

When these sales come up just pick one popular item and compare it to pre-sale prices. The T100 is my current benchmark as I have bought heaps of them.

    • +2

      hate these tricks

    • +1

Your link now shows the price at $492. Still a scam?

    • TGG landed price is $400 and your other link is now $438. They must be scamming you terribly. When you find a retailer who has the best price on every item they sell please let us know. Do all your sellers have price guarantees? Bricks and mortar stores where you can look at products, bargain over prices, ask for advice? Manufacturers' warranties? How many people do they employ directly and indirectly in this country?

      • +2

No response? No surprise when you've been caught with your pants well and truly down.

  • +3

Horrible experience with TGG ebay, their ridiculous post charge and not allowing pick-up is deal killer.

  • +4

I can clearly see prices and postage have already increased. Makes these sale prices not as good as previous eBay sales.

My experience with them was good. Purchased and paid for items were delivered in two days from my nearest GG store. Although packaging could have been a little better.

  • I wish I can choose the store which processes my orders. The store TGG chooses for me is unfriendly and packages things poorly (not to mention slow at processing orders). There are better TGG stores, but I cannot choose when purchasing from TGG feeBay store.

  • +1

So many positive votes. Are there any potential deals? Sometimes might be cheaper to haggle in store.

  • +8

Last weber bbq deal from them postage was $80 during the deal and before and after the deal it was $44. Not fair.

I'm not sure why they are trying to rip us off as the BBQ deal was fully ebay funded.

  • +1

I am shocked that no one has pointed out any "great deals" yet. Why wait to see the facts, we could all guess already what might be on special

  • Last time I ordered the Crest hdmi adaptors from TGG. BOTH packets were opened and had been sticky taped up. They were full of dust and the tape had even turned yellow. I could see finger prints all over one of them. Below average service.

  • +4

Can't see any worth deal… All items listed are overpriced and require extra for postage …

    • +1

      price guarantee ppl.. :)

      • I don't think their price guarantee works on ebay purchases. Correct me if I'm wrong.

        • +2

This comes up in every Good Guys thread. Yes the price guarantee works on Ebay purchases, I've used it successfully on 4 occasions at multiple GG stores. In fact the higher the GG initial price is the more of a saving you get in the end.

        • Yeah, but if TGG price AFTER the discount is cheaper than competitors', they won't match it.

eg. TGG has item for $499, other stores have it for $400.
TGG will sell for $399.20 - they WON'T price-match and then discount by 20%.

        • +2

@Linkwick: why are you asserting stuff that is patently false, the invoice makes no mention of the 20% off… comment when u have prior experience

        • +1

I thought the higher the starting price, the better because of the 120% price guarantee? E.g. TGG have an item for $500 and everywhere else it is $400. With the 20% ebay sale, 0.8 x $500 = $400. So it is the same price as everywhere else without a sale. But on your TGG invoice, it will not show the 20% ebay discount, so according to the invoice, the paid price is $500. Bring the invoice into your TGG store, and ask for the 120% price guarantee, and they should refund you 120% of the difference i.e. 1.2(500 - 400) = $120. So essentially, you are paying $280 ($400 - $120) for a $400 item.

If TGG inflated the price to say $600, then the final amount you'd be paying is: 0.8x600 - 1.2(600-400) = $240.

I haven't tried this myself, but by theory this works? It may depend a bit on whether your local TGG will do the 120% price guarantee which is where the savings is. If it doesn't work, just ask for a full refund.

        • @Megeso1246: Yes, you're correct.

    • -1

ALL items? Really? How about you supply us less well-informed consumers with a list showing ALL the cheaper prices. Don't forget to include the discount plus any postage.

  • This would work great for iphone 6 purchases, only if there wasnt a $100 restriction.

  • -1

Good buy for the Canon 700D TLK $661.58 delivered after $150 cashback. Don't forget 2% cashrewards too.

edit: nvm calculations are wrong since max discount is $100

  • Ok so if u click into the deal, it shows up the items are already 20% off ?
Lol So if that's the case, the UE BOOM BOX cost 159 on eBay (after 20%) off but 149 on their website… What's the logic behind it?

  • Xperia Z1, Xperia Z2 and LG G2 are all top rated phones and excellent Aus stock prices.

  • I've also had mixed success with buying from The Good Guys on eBay. During the non-sale periods, I bought a Dyson fan and they delivered it quickly with good communication letting me know it was coming, etc… but then during the 15% off eBay sale I bought a Nespresso and the invoice was incorrectly addressed, and it's been a week and a half trying to get this sorted so I can get the cashback. Admittedly once the staff in the store got my email (it went through the central mailbox or something), I started getting daily emails/updates but it's still been difficult! I appreciate the hard work and effort of the brown goods manager in the local store though with trying to overcome system difficulties.
