    Hey guys,
I just realised that that they're running a "night sale" at the moment.
    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/content/after-dark
From the couple items I checked, these prices are reflected on their eBay store.
However, this sale only runs until Thursday night.
So if you're taking 20% off items within this sale, to estimate a price for Sunday, undoubtedly, these prices will be higher than estimated come Sunday.

    • Far too much common sense muskipz. Some Ozbargainers are still having a great deal of trouble coming to grips with the new retailing paradigms of regular price fluctuations and "specials" to entice people to purchase. No doubt when they go into a supermarket their first thought is "but it was 20% cheaper last week".

      • +1

no point arguing man , its our god given right to complain and we do it so well

        • Too true. Some of these blokes would knock back a bargain because it was a dollar fifty cheaper last month. Mob mentality - as soon as one says 'they're jacking up the prices as we speak' the cognoscenti (lol) can't wait to click that green cross. Gotta love the concept of negging a discount even before you've seen it. The best part is that people who start from a premise of "there's nothing but bad to be had" won't be part of the competition for those who find a good deal.

        • +2

@Possumbly: most people dont understand the market place has changed. As has been identified a lot on Ozbargain The Goodguys change their prices daily that shift with the competition , they also have catalogues that run Tuesday to Mondays , they also have website promotions and sometimes they just change their ticket price , but as soon as a price changes in the upward direction for whatever reason its a giant conspiracy. People need to get over it , buy it if the price works for them and dont buy it if it doesnt.

Well this FAKE sale has convinced me to boycott TGG.

    So many positive votes. BAAA!

  • Not as good as the 30% off sale some time back. For a single store Sunday sale, I was hoping for a bigger percentage off. There was another 20% off Sunday but that covered a few different stores.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Seagate-4TB-Expansion-Desktop…

Credit to DAOtmc from the Amazon post for this…. Finally something with a good price… Works out to be just over 150…

    • +1

      That's inclusive of delivery ^.

    • +1

it was $182 the other day..

so they jack it up a bit

      • -1

On 21 Sept they sold one at exactly the same price - $185. The reduction you saw may have been related to their in store sale.

  • +14

Priced have risen. As usual with this pathetic company.

  • +14

    Prices jacked for sale… Embarassing

  • What does everyone think of the pu6910 espresson combo.

    No deal Bad Guys

    Prices are jacked up
No store pick up, pay eXtra for postage.
    $100 limit/restriction

I really feel sorry for the innocent people who are about to fall for this scam.

I wonder how their price grantee works in this case, when they will be selling it cheaper in store?

    • Worked for me :)

Picked up my Weber Family Q for $349 after all discounts and a price guarantee. I price matched their own catalogue. Refer to the BBQ eBay Sunday post.

    • Worked fine for me last 20% off, local store pick-up and special price to start with, savings on saving! I'm happy.

  • +1

Dick smith had increased prices days before its eBay sale too but they went back down, in the case of the PS4. However nothing is really known to be a deal yet at goodguys.
    Shouldn't be negged or plussed.

Need some sort of section here for upcoming sales that isn't hidden in the forum but on the main page and isn't able to +'d or -'d until it starts.

  • +1

Pretty good deal for the new Moto G (2014). $217 for 3G, $241 for 4G.

  • -1

    Me:Can I see a good guy please?
Them: Sorry, we have Bob, Arnold, Peter, Steve…

  • My eneloops will all be under the good guys category

  • TGG = the greedy grubs

  • Uh guess increasing the prices randomly is deemed OK…

    Downvote for TGG

eBay: thanks for trying but sellers increasing prices is just disappointing.

    • +1

randomly is actually fine…many sellers do it all the time

but jacking up prices just before a 20% off day is dodgy

      • +2

Haha yeah that's what I meant! Seeing as it's a collaborative thing I'm sure TGG knows about the 20% and has raised the prices…

        • -1

Give us your evidence - assuming of course you have any. An approximate percentage of the number of items on their website which have increased in price since the deal was announced and the rough % increase will do for starters. Then a summary of say a dozen items' prices over the last six months showing their fluctuations over that period, if any. No doubt a few items will have come off previous special prices back to their "normal" prices, and heavens to murgatroyd some items won't even be the cheapest price you could find (what a revelation) but there will undoubtedly be some good buys, just as there were thousands of great deals on the recent ebay sale - despite the same, largely incorrect, negativity being rolled out then. Baaa, baaa.

  • Might be a good chance to grab some Weber accessories.

    • +1

I was thinking that for the 15% off sale but the risk of having to have them delivered kills any benefit.

Bought a Weber Baby Q from GG and they managed to turn a 50% Ebay discount into an 15% discount. I was a big GG fan until then too.

  • $733 for Olympus EM10 single lens kit ain't bad….

OH LORD HELP ME… This is what happened last time this was on!!!!!

    http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/91117/21793/img_3278a.j…

    • hahahaha good work!

    • You need stronger will power.

    • Jenga-Jenga-Jenga!

  • +6

I wonder if TGG realises it's illegal to up the prices before a sale and then claim 20% off. Interesting case considering it's an eBay/TGG combined sale.

Sooo dodge. Except all those people seeing this on the Sunday may not realise they've been scammed if that's what they're doing.

  • +6

The title and description should contain something like "20% off a few items at TGG" and "please compare prices prior to purchase". Many of the prices have already increased and many more likely by Sunday. I would prefer listing actual bargains within this sale to avoid misleading some at least.

I don't accept the argument that prices always fluctuate. And if they did, then it is no more a bargain when it can be bought cheaper elsewhere.

Also had a problem with two orders pending for over a week last time. I had to spend many hours trying to get them cancelled as no one knew what was happening.

    • +4

Ok changed the title :). And added a warning in the description

      • -1

You shouldn't have. The same bleating happens every time one of these promotions occurs and overall the evidence is that there are MANY good deals to be had. Prices are often returned to "normal" prior to blanket %off sales. If the vast majority of Ozbargainers need to be reminded to compare prices then I'd be gobsmacked.

      • +1

Lots of 'reports', but not a shred of evidence (the nearest is someone stating a fridge is cheaper in their local paper than it is on eBay, which is neither here nor there)? C'mon, we're better than this, or should strive to be.

        • +1

          Sheeple will be sheeple.

        • +2

@Possumbly: I have a few blu ray players, TV, home theatre system and vacuum cleaners on watch list and most have gone up by up to 1-4%. A samsung tv by 16$. Some like the UE Boom someone listed above for 148 is now 149. Still a good deal but one should be watchful for any significant increases

Btw my neg also had to with around $1600 being held by them for over 10 days without processing.

A neg does not mean that I won't buy anything this time. I will probably buy something but would be careful before blindly clicking on buy

        • +3

@kbk: So presumably you also have a history of these items' price fluctuations over say the last 3 months? The dollar has declined by more than 1% and anyone with even a modicum of knowledge of retail pricing knows that prices fluctuate for marketing reasons in particular sectors.

Sorry, don't understand your neg at all, particularly as no-one knows what the offers are as yet. Using that logic you'll have to neg every one of TGG's deals. You appear to have had a negative experience - that can be covered by a comment and would be a far more reasonable, and informative, approach imo.

Notwithstanding the fact that there are some legitimate gripes, experience suggests that most of the hysteria regarding price "gouging" relates FAR more to the ignorance of the poster in regard to retailing than to business malpractice. Add a liberal dash of entitlement, a pinch of sourpuss and a large lump of spoilt brat and there you go.

  • +4

Annoyed how TGG handle postage. Quite greedy.

    • +1

They are terrible like that. Charged me $44 for delivery when I wanted to pick up in store, then the invoice the driver have me shows they pay $21.
Really are the bad guys when it comes to stupid delivery choices.

    • Just to balance this out, the nearest TGG to me is 120km away. I've had nothing but pristine delivery prices (including free or $1) and packaging. A pleasure to deal with, having bought various white goods and electronics over recent years.

      • +1

        That's the thing, its inconsistent.
They seem to have a blurry half-way policy whereby some stores are happy to allow pick ups for eBay purchases and provide refunds for the often overblown delivery charges, others do not. The actual cost is also unreasonable in many cases IE $44 to move a box less than 5kms with the actual courier price shown as $21.
Depends on the store that gets allocated your item.

        • +1

Indeed. My 'local' TGG is franchisee owned and operated (I'm not sure how common that is across the country), and as it happens the current franchisee is a delight to deal with, having spoken with her a few times to organise the aforementioned deliveries. So yeah, can certainly be potluck the level of service you get, though I'm sure the the brand 'TGG' would be concerned to hear that the standard is so wildly different between stores.

  • Seen this post and thought I'd checkout the TVs, spotted the Sony KDL55W800B @ $1,289 plus $100 off come Sunday looks like a great deal, but wait!! Its only at that price during the night sale this week, so come Sunday it will be $1,488 with $100 to take off, wheres the great deal with that!! Save $200 tonight again or only $100 on Sunday? Tell you what TGG, f##k off!!

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Sony_55%22%28139cm%2…

    • Just had JB Hifi match the further $100 off the Sony KDL55W800B plus knock nearly 20% off a Sony HTCT60BT Soundbar too. $1400 total for everything and didn't have to deal with TGG or wait on delivery (or pay the extra $30 delivery fee)

  • +3

Negged for price increase prior to sale - could a mod perhaps tweak the title?

  • Dumb question - but what is redemption code? I cannot see it anywhere

    • They'll publish it on Sunday.

      • thanks - where will they publish it?

        • +1

It will be all over their website starting at 10am, you can't miss it even if you tried :)

        • @jazzymc: thanks

        • @jazzymc: On the ebay deals website?

  • Negged for price increase

  • +4

Wanted to buy a fridge and have been tracking prices all over the internet for the past two weeks. They have inflated the prices. Neg from me

    • +3

Agreed. Price increased. If anyone has proof i rec. reporting to ACCC.

      • -1

Love your logic. You don't know, appear to have no proof but you're so sure there's something dodgy involved you neg the deal.

  • +3

    Prices increased

  • +1

    Which stores have good girls?

  • +2

    GTFO fraudsters

  • So I bought thus item at the 15%
    sale.
    http://m.ebay.com.au/itm?itemId=141334916614

Item price has gone down $4, postage price has gone up $4.

15% was off item plus postage. I am guessing 20% off works out about the same total.

    Still a deal…

  • -1

Can their price increasing be reported to eBay, or does eBay not care? It's their money that's being robbed effectively.

    • +1

      Why don't you?

  • IF there is concern the price will be inflated before the sale and your set on getting an item, but it now but don't pay for it until Sunday then apply the code and it should work?

  • +2

If you do make a purchase from the Good Guys and decide on purchasing an extended warranty. Make sure the warranty is not being provided by Narta also know as Lumley insurance. They probably won't cover it. Narta and Lumpley are very dodgy in the way that they operate. The look like a big professional corporate but operate like a dodgy back yard company.

    • +1

I had a less than enjoyable experience with them too.

Car written off by a P-plater fishtailing down the road. Hit the side of mine & another car hard. All pannels and doors. Sped off.

Fast Forward, Lumley decide it's a write off. I'm thinking I'll be getting insured value minus excess (as the p-plater wasn't kind enough to leave a note). Lumley charged for towing to the wreckers, and "disposal fees". All taken off the payout as well as the excess. Disposal fees! the car was probably sold given the fact that everything else would be recovered from the car and sold except the smashed side.

Too hard to fight as it was through corporate insurance. Will not forget.

  • Another potential 2000+ post?

    • +2

Looking more like -100 the way things are going…

  • +6

Everyone should report TGG to eBay. This is still an eBay promotion and it shouldn't let TGG to do whatever they want to scam everyone.

    • +2

Report? Lol, they are the same mob. Big bad sunday are coming.

    • Good point! eBay won't be happy, but at the same time I guess eBay won't have to fork too much $ as a result of the sales, so maybe they wouldn't care less

      • I disagree, the promo is a % off sale, so the higher the price the more ebay have to kick back in.

TGG are the ones who end up on top because they get a tone of free advertizing from ebay and a hike in sales and they get paid the full amount from the purchases (that they have jacked up the prices on). So that equals more profits and more sales all in one hit!

        • $100 max discount - doesn't really make a difference for ebay if a product that is $500 is jacked up to $1000

        • @steff: good point, but even if the majority of items sold are <$800. $10 less of a rebate would be $10 x 10 000 orders is $100 000 less that eBay has to kick in. They would still not be happy unless secretly TGG do cover some of the discount on their end.

      • That's not true. You do the promotion you will spend the money. You don't wanna spend the money you don't do the promotion.
In this case eBay spend the money but TGG take them for a ride. Marketing won't be very happy.

        • That's why I'm supporting the reporting of TGG. Above agurments were made eBay wouldn't care, I disagree.

  • +4

    Very dodgy business practice

  • +4

They're the new Kogan. Not a good thing.

    • +1

      exactly.

  • +1

No change on the items I've been watching. Still a big plus from me. Though I've screenshotted it just in case, lol.

  • +1

    Bad guys.

  • +2

Bad Guys Strike Again, Harvey Norman still take the cake as the biggest rip off merchants in Oz, Go Harvey!

    • +1

Yep Hardly Normal, is my favourite place to shop :)

  • +2

Unacceptable advertising & business practices by scamming people like this. Advertise an up-coming sale, then jack up all the prices and put a discount on ludicrously inflated prices above their normal cost. I hope the ACCC bend them over in court for this.

    • +1

Not really. Since eBay is doing the sale, not TGG.

      • +1

The deal listing & it's link is for TGG's ebay store.

    • +1

      Pay Cash & We'll Slash The Fines…

  • +1

Is there any chance we can put a ban on TGG listings for this type of bait & switch advertising?

    • +2

Where is the 'bait and switch advertising'??

Do you even know what bait and switch advertising is?

      • No he doesn't. Nor does he have any evidence for his claim that they've "jack[ed] up all the prices and put a discount on ludicrously inflated prices above their normal cost." Borderline slander, but let's just call it for what it is - blind ignorance.

      • +1

Who the feck negged my post? lol

Jesus. Do people here actually know the definition of things before throwing them around? I'm not even sticking up for TGG here at all, this is just a matter of getting one fact straight. Calling someone out for "bait and switch" when there is no bait and switch is just ridiculous.

My faith in this community has been declining of late…

        • What TGG has done is actually defined as misleading advertising under Australian Bait & Switch laws. You may want to actually have a read of the ACCC guidelines yourself before you start claiming others have no clue what they are talking about: http://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/misleading-claims-advertisi…

        • +1

@infinite: So the sale is on SUNDAY, and it's now THURSDAY, and you've all been assuming that any price changes since YESTERDAY are proof of bait advertising?

          For real?

I hope you haven't written to the ACCC yet.

        • +1

@infinite: So you stick by your claim that TGGs have "jack[ed] up all [sic] the prices and put a discount on ludicrously inflated prices [sic] above their normal cost"?

If so why aren't you complaining to the ACCC? Surely after making such inflammatory and arguably defamatory claims you have compelling evidence? Copy us all into your letter please because as consumers we're all interested in the discussion and outcome. Harris Scarfe got done a few years ago for something similar so your claim against TGGs should be an open and shut case.

        • @infinite: In lieu of negging how about you try to answer the questions. Cat got your tongue suddenly?

        • +3

@infinite: How's the letter coming? Oddly enough most of the prices I've looked at are well within their normal price range which would suggest that your particular claim is total bunkum. The fact that you haven't revisited to justify it simply confirms the fact. Credibility - zero.

      • -3

Bait & switch advertising covers both advertising products but then swapping them for others in their place, as well as advertising a sale & then raising prices right before the said sale (misleading pricing).

        Straight from the ACCC: http://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/misleading-claims-advertisi…

"Businesses are not allowed to make statements that are incorrect or likely to create a false impression. This rule applies to their advertising, their product packaging, and any information provided to you by their staff or online shopping services. It also applies to any statements made by businesses in the media or online, such as testimonials on their websites or social media pages.

It makes no difference whether the business intended to mislead you or not. If the overall impression left by a business’s advertisement, promotion, quotation, statement or other representation creates a misleading impression in your mind—such as to the price, value or the quality of any goods and services—then the behaviour is likely to breach the law."
