  • Is this a Victorian catalogue?

There is one page advertising Pink Lady apples for $2.50 per kilogram. I've been paying $6.48 per kilogram for a 1kg pack for the last few months. I used to buy the cheapest variety of red apples but one of my children got really fussy and insisted on only eating Pink Lady apples so I've had to go along with the high prices.

    • I just managed to read the tiny print on Page 5 and this indicates it is a Victorian catalogue. I should be able to get my apples at a decent price this week. Thanks for the information.

just steal them… oh wait, you are

      • +1

That's fraud, theft and completely unethical. It just results in everyone else having to pay more.

      • See that there?
That's the EXACT line between bargain hunting and theft. You stepped over it into a completely different morality.
One is honorable, wise even, one is is not. Don't steal. It makes you well, a shoplifter!

  • Mmmmm the kettle chilli chips are amazing, is this the lowest they've gone?

    • +3

Try the Tyrells chips on sale for $3. Granted they are pretty dear but they are quite nice.

      • What does dear mean in this context? "Loved; lovable." doesn't seem to fit here.

        • Dear as in 'expensive' or 'higher than normal price' dear.
I can't afford this apple - it is too dear.

        • @kaizer: Huh, interesting! Never thought I'd learn a new word from OzBargain! :)

        • @tf2manu994: granted the word dear does have many different meanings depending on the context.

          From freedictionary.com:
          1.
          a. Loved and cherished: my dearest friend.
          b. Greatly valued; precious: lost everything dear to them.
          2. Highly esteemed or regarded. Used in direct address, especially in salutations: Dear Lee Dawson.
          3.
          a. High-priced; expensive.
          b. Charging high prices.
          4. Earnest; ardent: "This good man was a dear lover and constant practicer of angling" (Izaak Walton).
          5. Obsolete Noble; worthy.
          6. Heartfelt: It is my dearest wish.
          n.
          1. A person who is greatly loved. Often used as a form of address.
          2. An endearing, lovable, or kind person: What a dear she is!

        • @kaizer:

i hate when i realise that two words fit the same sentence and are spelled the same. the other day i wanted to go for a bike ride and asked my brother if the road was windy… he said na not usually (like a breeze, windy) i wanted to know if it had a lot of twists in it.

        • @Calam05: lol yeah I know right. Had a good chuckle

      • Agreed these are pretty nice. Salt or salt and vinegar. The Apple Cider one (whatever its called) has an acquired taste…. (if its actually at a given store…havent seen it everywhere)

    • the lowest they've gone?

No. $1.99 happens at least every few months.

Best price for Kettle i got was 99 cents (before extra discounts! lol) when they were clearing out limited edition flavours about 9mths ago.

Has anyone tried the SFC chicken?. Any good?.

    • Edible, but I found it a bit too salty, as you can expect from this kind of food.

      • Yes, very salty. I was expecting it to taste like KFC chicken, thinking that's how they came up with the name. But it didn't taste like KFC.

        • I really really like it! In saying that, I only really really like it at $7.50 a bucket. The sauce that comes in the box is bloody delicious too. I usually just grab/raincheck a few boxes to tide me over, they come on special every few months..

        • +1

          Salty fried chicken?

    • I tried it once and will never buy again. Also, it works out to be not much cheaper than KFC when you factor in the cost and effort of cooking.

      • don't you just put it in the oven?

        • +1

          Yes…

        • Renting an oven is expensive so not worth it unless you buy more than 13 buckets

        • @jubba: Isn't there an oven in your house?

    • +1

To summarise what everyone else is saying, it's crap.

    • SFC is actually pretty good but very very overpriced at standard pricing.

At 50% off (which it is every 4-6 weeks) it isn't bad. I prefer the pieces with bone - not the boneless stuff.

  • I wonder if a Salmat distributer is leaking these pics…

  • +1

Oh my god. San Pellegrino soft drink at that price! Time to clear the shelves…

  • +1

What is a CD worth at coles? Less than $10? :)

  • Time to stock up the National Treasure , I mean Tim Tam .
Bread and Tim Tam, Easy breakfast recipe

  • SFC Take Home Boneless Bucket….

    Sounds Legit.
