and how is that a bargain? Doesn't it depend on how much they charge you for the car???

    • For example, an almost new wagon can be had for 25k plus the interest rate would save few thousand dollars.
      Eg. http://www.carsales.com.au/bncis/details/Skoda-Octavia-2014/…

plus the interest rate would save few thousand dollars.

Not if you can negotiate a better price without the finance…

        • It's like when Harvey Norman offer 0% finance for 60 months. I heard them say to some nice old couple - no, there's no further discount on those prices with that deal. So it's only useful for those who don't like haggling.

        • +2

That's why you negotiate the price, and then say you'll take their 1.2% finance deal…makes it very awkward for them to wriggle out of the agreed price by that point.

        • @wfdTamar: Not sure if things have changed with new regulations but back in the day, 0% finance usually came with a monthly account fee which made the effective interest rate in the mid teens.

I haven't got finance for a very long time, do they still do these sneakies?

        • Totally agree. With cars, they substitute one discount for another.
The only possible exception is if the dealer gets a kickback for setting up a loan, or for meeting a quota. But for national deals like this, it's unlikely to be a real discount.

  • The only problem with this offer is that you will have to settle for what has already landed.
No chance in hell in getting a BTO model by 30th June.

    • +1

      It for 2014 models only.

      • Good point.

  • 2% cashback with paywave?

    • -1

How many reward points would you get?

    • Hmm don't think so somehow.

    • I asked about paying on credit card when I bought a car in 2010 and they said no way, not even to the deposit.

  • Should be able to import one yourself soon. Maybe even click and collect from woolies.

    • These are great!

      • Most done the other night on Top Gear about Lada

    • These used to be for Lada, like wfdTamar said. I remember them from ages ago.
Not sure what Skoda is like nowadays, but some 20 years ago in Europe they were nothing to brag about. They were decent value for money, but nothing like the luxury car they are trying to pass them of as nowadays. Same for volkswagen, for that matter; I remember the add where they tried to pass a Passat off as a limousine - that was hilarious.

Lol, I got the octavia ambition plus manual wagon a few months back. 26,300 drive away. Loving it. It was in stock.

Yea they were a little poorly made but recent models are much improved. A Taxi Owner/Driver in NQ has a diesel model and swears it is as good as it gets ( barring a few initial issues which were fixed) He reckons it beats Hybrids. Now with a few hundred thousand on the clock he is looking at another to add to his business.

I've got one - 5.5 litres/100km. 132Kw/385Nm. Heaps of toys, comfy. Really nice car.

    • We've got an older diesel Octavia (103KW/320NM) plus 2 more recent Fabia models (both 1.2L manual TSI). Pleased with all of them.

Happy to buy a new Octavia when the time comes. Waiting times for build-to-order are pretty awful tho'.

Most of the Paris Taxi fleet were Octavias when I was there in 2013 - which, I think, says something positive about value-for-money and probably about reliability too.

Hate to say it but @JV is right - do all your sums before signing up INCLUDING any effect on insurance cost. It is just an extension of the old 'trade in' approach; You need to look at your net changeover cost - don't be blinded by HUGE trade-in valuations.

      • That's the diesel Octavia I have (an early 4x4 one), but got it Superchipped to get the figures I posted.

Skoda is just a rebranded cheap model of audi, a few years ago if you check the bolts on a skoda it is labeled with audi parts number, dont know how is it now.

    • +7

Audi is just an expensive model of Skoda, if you check the bits on an audi it is labelled with skoda parts…
(Not true, but not far off either)

Both brands are owned by, and use parts by VW.

      • True, a VW with a different body.

        • true, they all use variants of same parts, surprised to see not many fans here for the skoda eventhough they are quality build and came from VM

    • Maybe, but the Octavia has the new MBQ chassis which is current gen golf chassis. And my 1.4 turbo has super Eco and fly's.
      :-)
