Dick Smith & Tandy 10% Off STOREWIDE for Staff - Thursday December 10th

2111

It's happening again! Thursday 10th December is a staff day at Dick Smith and Tandy where there is 10% off storewide PLUS extra deals (details not yet available). I know it's a little early, but I thought if there's anybody buying (expensive) Christmas presents then they may prefer to wait till this day.

There are no exclusions, and Apple products ARE included in the sale. Last time Dick Smith had this event, there was a further 10% off Macbooks as well so it was very cheap. Those more specific details will be available sooner.

This posting is more for those who might want to delay their purchases. You do need to be an employee of Woolworths Limited with a valid staff discount card, but I guess a lot of people have family or friends who have one.

I saw this advertised in our lunch room at work, so no I'm not a company rep but I do work there :)

    I don't know a Woolworths employee :(

Back in the good old days the DSE employee discount was cost price + 5% (or maybe 10%).

    • -1

That's just stupid. The store would be losing money then.

      • not really, cost price can be the price they get it from the supplier i.e. DSE Distributer

      • "cost price" could be landed cost price.. i.e. their purchase price + overheads.

  • Normally with your staff discount card you get 5% off. This deal is an extra 5% ontop of the standard discount?

    • Yes that is correct. But it's not 95% of 95% of the price. It's a proper 10% discount. Also they have loads of extra specials.. Like I remember last time there was 25% off Logitech hardware, 20% off Navman etc.. Hopefully more of those details will be available in the next few days or week.

i really dont see why this should be posted as a deal. Most stores offer 5-10% off their prices of staff anyway…

      agreed

I got my 32" LCD for $500 last time, nice bargain :)

  • -1

So how is this a deal for the majority?

    • agreed, this should be in the forums, not here

  • -3

This does not seem like a deal that needs to be posted. Those who it applies to are already notified by the store.

    • +1

I work for woolies and I had no idea about this offer.

    • +1

Unfortunately that is not always the case. It applies to me and I had no idea about this, so +1 to the Poster

Here we go again. I can't participate in some deals interstate but it doesn't mean I will automatically vote negative for it.

Yes I have access to a staff card so I can benefit from this. And as the OP stated, there will be further discounts announced (just like they were last time).

Thank you OP for bringing it to my attention.

"You do need to be an employee of Woolworths Limited with a valid staff discount card". For that matter we could all post up "deals" with different companies with any percentage off…and add the disclaimer that it only applies to staff. For that reason I don't consider this a deal as it is only open to select people through their employment (not through their membership, as might be the case with other deals that are open to members of a club etc).

    • +1

The difference is that Woolworths is Australia's largest private employer with over 160,000 employees, so even though this deal is "exclusive", it's quite a large group of people who are entitled to it.

I don't really care if this is deleted or not, I just thought it would be useful to a lot of people. Bargains on cans of Spam aren't useful to all the people who don't like to eat Spam. And cheap shampoo deals aren't useful to people who are bald. The vast majority of bargains posted aren't useful to every single person.

This deal is way to limited, i also don't want to bother family/friends just to get 10%, which btw isnt much anyway.

  • Based on the comments so far, I guess I might have to go and neg every single post for educational software, cause I am not a student.

    • +2

Agreed. This post is good as there are lots of people working for Woolworths. And when you work for a company as large as Woolworths, notices about special staff discount days don't filter down to everyone. This is just another avenue to let the qualifying people know. Plus these staff days only happen once every few months and there are normally other special prices along with the 10% storewide discount.

There is a MASSIVE population difference between being a staff member of Woolworths group to being a student. For example, at the cinemas you have Adult, Children, Seniors and STUDENT/Concession, you don't see a separate category for "Woolworths staff".

      Your logic is crap.
10% off isn't much (except for maybe Apple products) and this offer is WAY TO LIMITED. Ozbargain should be for the majority of public or a big portion (students would count as probably 90% of the population knows someone or is related to a student).

      So -ve for me.

Also do staff members really need a reminder of this? Come on, if you didn't notice it at work then I'm sure one of your work mates would let you know if it was a BARGAIN.

      • Agreed!

      • There is nothing wrong with my logic, but thanks for your opinion.

Let's wait and see if there are any additional discounts and if the deal gets any better closer to the day. No need for you to be bitter about missing out though.

How is getting a friend or family member who works at Woolies any different to sucking up to a student friend or family to get educational software. Also isn't it illegal to buy educational software unless you are a student? Breach of terms and conditions I would think. The only way I can think it is ok is if you are allowed to use that licence/key on a PC used by a non-student. I am open to being proven wrong on that one.

So let's get back to the real issue. I am not a student so I cannot get educational software, so should I vote negative for ALL educational software?

  • This deal is more like reminder. Do check with your woolies/safeway/DSE friends. Last year they sell samsung lcd tv for below 1500, previous year acer laptop for 400$ (which were specials in addition to 10% storewide). Obviously when we get that info, this deal might be top deal (or not :-) )

  • +1

Now if only I could buy a Woolworths employee card. Anyone know if they're on sale? ;-)

  • This is stupid - whats the point of posting it if its limited to staff only. too exclusive.

  • not available to the general public there not a bargain

  • Its a good deal for an employee, but is not for me as I don't work for Woolies or know anyone that does.

Or if maybe people with employee cards will be standing at the front of the shop offering their cards on the day for us to take advantage of the deals will be a different story.

  • NO bargain here nothing to see keep moving

  • Nice! Thanks for letting me know!

Our normal discount is 5% all the time and for this day it is 10%.

They also often have deals on products as well as the 10% off.

Like they had 50% off Microsoft mice and keyboards and %35 off d-link products, so Its normally awesome.

And just cos you guys can't use it doesn't make it not a bargain. Stop complaining and harden up.

lol @ all the haters.. saying the offer is too exclusive is terrible logic. Way more people are eligible for the Dick Smith offer than any deal at a specific shop like Fluidtek..

    • -1

"Way more people are eligible for the Dick Smith offer than any deal at a specific shop like Fluidtek.."

You sure about that buddy? Fluidtek or other computer stores are available to either an entire state or Australia wide to the PUBLIC!

      Its like 100,000 vs Millions.

    • +2

It's not the volume of people which prompted my negative but rather the segment of people that are eligible. Fluidtecs is open to the public so the only factor is location. Thats a big difference to needing to be an employee. I personally don't think the site needs to be used to push DSE's internal announcements. I realise several employees here have benefited, thats great for them (really), but surely this sort of thing is better kept to internal announcements.

Thats just my opinion, feel free to disagree. I also think being a staff member is a lot different to students getting student discounts which again, others obviously disagree with.

  • Whilst a lot of people might be unhappy (understandable) do keep in mind that the Woolworths group (which the discount is available to) is one of the largest employers in Australia. Yeah a bit restrictive but it could still help a few people and if it helps say, 50 people who didn't know about the deal it's still worth it.
