  • Thanks heaps :)

  • Looks good.
Is this their normal ongoing price?

    • I believe so.

      • -2

If it is normal ongoing price then is it a bargain?

        • Yes, it's a bargain.

      • +1

It can be considered a bargain compared to Aldi deals

  • +3

No stock in most WA stores

    • Not available for delivery either .

      • No stock in Adelaide Airport store, but $8.95 delivery available

  • +3

$5, not bad for yumcha LED globes.

  • +7

Buy 20 to fit out the house tomorrow and get $15 gift card to boot!

Biggest test will be how the Colour Reproduction is - nothing worse than an LED with off colours (greenish, etc), regardless of how cheap it is. It would be something that would just annoy me every time I used it.

I pay $16 and get the Philips LEDs 12.5W from Bunnings - they have great CRI and are 1055 Lumens I think - so brighter than the 800 for this one for only 2.5watts extra.

nothing worse than an LED with off colours

Why? Incandescent is horribly yellow compared to daylight, but nobody seems to notice or complain.
The eye/brain is very good at adapting to ambient light.

Awesome price! So good to see something that has, relatively, minimal environmental impact being adopted so quickly.
Hopefully, governments will soon go further & begin legislating the banning of fluorescent tubes/globes

    • -1

Maybe we can go back to candles?

    • +2

begin legislating the banning of fluorescent tubes/globes

That would be a bad idea. Many people don't consider running costs when they buy a replacement globe, so if you ban fluorescents, the only reasonably "cheap" option will be halogen bulbs, which use a LOT more electricity.

If you want to be green, you would achieve more by getting the government to ban using the words "high efficiency" when describing halogen bulbs. They're currently the lowest-efficiency bulbs on the market, unless you count oven bulbs (which are conventional incandescents).

      • +2

Or you could require them to include the running costs on the globes…

Consumers could then easily see on the packet what the difference is in choosing different products (i.e. x cents a day to run) - in case they don't make the connection with wattage..

CFL's are pretty bad for the environment given that we don't really have any recycling initiatives in place here in AU (Sydney at least), and they go to landfill…

  • wonder if these are dimmable?

    • No, they aren't dimmable

  • +2

The bayonet/screw mounting colour temperature is a little disappointing. At 2700k it's quite yellow compared to 3000K LEDs. I have used Philips LEDs in the past and am very happy with them. Cheap no name LEDs from China tend to either have a short life or fail to deliver on their lumen promises. Might try these and see how they perform.

    • Yeah for $5 could be good to test - if you're unhappy with it, just put it in the toilet or a room you don't use much.

      • +5

        i'll refund it instead. $5 is a high-value for ozbargainer(s)

  • These work a treat as outdoor flood/ security light replacement.

  • bought A LOT of OSRAM 13W 850lm CFLs at bunnings while on clearance, $5 for 5, gonna last a while.
but this is still a good price.

    • still bought one…bought the dyson dc45 for 298 price matching HN.
plus this globe to get an extra giftcard.
similar to my philips 20w dimmable CFL.
      no delay when switched on

5watt is probably ok for a bedside lamp. 10 watt for a very small room…

    • +1

But they are LED so there is greater efficiency in lumens per watt compared to alternative light sources such as CFL. I have the 10 W installed in bedrooms (4 * 5 meters) and they are bright enough to eliminate the use of table lamps in the rooms.

  • not good for heating

    • stick with dirty cheap halogens…

    • +1

Yeah, maybe I should stop using my oven for light…

      • just open the fridge door as well to cancel out the heat if your kitchen becomes too hot. Plus, bonus = more light!

        • That would be ridiculous - I just turn up the air-con.
But that's too noisy so I need to wear ear muffs but then I can't hear the TV so I have to turn that up.
But when I do that the neighbours complain so I had to install sound-proofing.
But that makes the room warmer so I need to turn up the air-con…

        • @McFly: we got a thinker here ! Well done!!

  • Got a few, quite happy with the brightness. Colour: a bit too yellow, but that was expected based on the 2700K.

Now let's hope they stand up to the test of time - no warranty information at all, but given that they state 15000 hours we've got something to go by when setting out expectations as per consumer laws…

  • Bought 20 bayonets to replace all the bulbs in my new house, and got a $15 card to boot. Good job.

Now I have to find 3 edison screw ones for the outdoor lights as my local store has none.

  • They were even a better bargain up until the 22nd. Master had buy 2 get the 3rd free on all globes not just these.
    Noddy.

  • Bought some yesterday and I am VERY happy with the output on these.

  • Anyone seen the cool white ones being available?

    • Cool White (4000K) 10W ES & BC are the only option at Tingalpa, Brisbane. Plenty of stock in bin by self checkouts.

Picked up for $4.16 each today, after PETROL10 code for 10% off, using 7.5% off eGift Card.

  • Are many of these LED Screw ins Spot Bulbs? I want to get a LED globe to save money, but it has to be a <30 light range.

  • Thanks for the heads up but as far as I'm concerned we're not quite there yet. I have little use for 60W incadescent equivalents. I'm struggling to light the place without adding more fittings with the 100W CFL equivalents.

  • I have this post quite illuminating

    • +1

I have this fence, quite brightly.

      • +1

would you believe I meant "find" this post……,

        (thanks KT!)

        • +1

          I know, I know.
I thought it was quite a poetic juxtaposition.
          Like a haiku.

        • +1

          @King Tightarse:

          I don't like Haikus
They annoy me, all of them
          Writing this saddens me

        • +1

          @shmahoo:
          Not bad for Monday,
          Its needing more mist throughout.
          Most Haikus have mist.

        • I don't like Haikus
'cause I always get them wrong
          Oh maybe this time… D'oh!

  • Checked today at Adelaide Airport store. Sold out. The display had one little basket set aside for the light bulbs. Seeing as they're advertised with a large banner out front, the stock planning is pretty dreadful. More stock is expected "next week", according to a staff member. Took me about 5 minutes of asking to find someone who knew what was going on.

    • so no bright sparks working for them…

  • Still out of stock as of 3 May at the Adelaide store. Management have taken down the ad out front of the store advertising the light bulbs. Must be a tad embarrassing… advertise a new product and then run out of stock for a week.

    • Hi Cluster, I was at Coles the other day (Fri) and saw they had 50% off Coles branded LED globes. They had bayonet and screw types for the same price here ($10 for a 2 pack of 10w and $8 for 2 pack of 8w). They came in warm white and cool white. I am in Melbourne. The globes are in green packets.
