  • its in store too. been about a week that its been available.

  • black chrome

i assume its not impact rated?

    • Not sure but i know that Stanley comes with Lifetime Warranty

No. Most impact tools are chrome molybdenum (softer) as opposed to chrome vanadium (tougher), however I have seen plenty of chrome vanadium impact tools. I'm guessing they have either more chrome or vanadium than regular tools, or added trace elements for impact strength. Chrome moly impact sockets tend to be a duller, matt black finish that isn't as smooth as chrome plated tools, they tend to have a sandblasted finish to them, although not always.

If they don't say impact rated, they aren't.

This is a great price for this set, at less than a dollar a piece, and should have no troubles with quality being Stanley. Pity it contains 3/8" drive, which is not needed in my opinion - 1/4" drive is good for driving smaller sized bolts/nuts from 3 or 4 mm, up to 13mm (M8 bolts/nuts), and then step up to 1/2" drive, which usually goes down to 10mm, all the way up to about 30 or 32mm.

Another plus for this set is that it contains every size from 10 to 19mm.

Nearly every socket set out there only has 18 or 19mm - not both. M12 bolts usually have an 18mm head, but M12 nyloc nuts are 19mm, which results in much frustration when the set only has one but not the other.

I'd buy this set if I didn't already have 2 socket sets at home, and 2 at work (fitter and turner here).

  • why does it add $7.95 postage cost for me?

Here's a link to a page of the same socket set with a high res image of the sockets. I hate when they sell sets and don't list every size of every piece.

This seems like a good deal and it has every metric size covered. Most sets don't include 16mm or 18mm which is annoying as 18mm is a common M12 size. This does not have every metric size for the deep sockets though, you are missing 16,11 and 18mm which is a shame. I'd happy trade away all the useless imperial sockets for just those three deep well sockets!

  • not bad for a 'bargain' tool

  • I like the idea of the etching on black to make it easier to read (my fading eyesight). Chrome on chrome makes it hard to read.
Also they have deep sockets in the set
Says on their Ebay listing on the box 6 point, 6 point grips better if the nuts are slightly damaged.
Also do I spend $7 on petrol and 1 hour round trip to pickup, or do I Ebay and take free delivery ?

Quality wise, won't be as nice as my Stahlwille, but probably as good as Kinchrone or Sidchrome. Masters have rounded nuts in their tool section so you can try the different brands for ring spanners for precision of fit (applies to sockets also) , the Stahlwille grabs, other slip, yes sponsored by Stahlwille.

Metallurgy wise, Stanley are HUGE and own many brands, don't think lack of metallurgical knowledge is lacking in that organisation, it's often the precision of size that sets tools apart. Also on Amazon the same set says made in Taiwan, but I pressume manufacturing shifts for markets and batches, so could be China

I have only seen one REAL test of spanners (tested to breaking rather than personal opinion), Hazet was 40% stronger than Snapon before jaws spread for same spanner size, but don't see much Hazet (German) in Australia.

  • Just bought it… cant complain..

  • Just bought one this morning, I suggest if you have a store nearby to just go get it in person if you have a Club Plus card. (Club Plus doesn't work with eBay as far as I know). In theory, if you ever lose the receipt it should be on the card, which is nice to have on something with a lifetime warranty..
