  • 4 inch screen.

    • +4

According to Apple, 4 inch is the perfect size.

      • except when it wasn't anymore. Apple were always right, we changed though.

      • It's just common sense

      • +1

I have a 3.5 inch and everyone complains how small it is, and how hard it is to use.

        • 3.5 inches?!?!

    • It can be both plus or minus. If you like small phones, 4 inch might be something you'd prefer.

    • Who in their right mind would buy this crap. Rather the galaxy s5 for the same price.

      • Wait, there is a s5 deal for this price? Where?

Might get one for my gf.

        • Search (on my phone so it's too hard for me), there was one for $435 not long ago.

        • @PVA: But that's grey import. Grey importing a waterproof phone… Hmmm, too risky for my taste. I've heard that it's harder to fix.

        • @AznMitch:

Safer than using a non waterproof phone, no?

        • @trumpedup: But if you break the screen and fix it with someone other than Samsung, it becomes a Schrodinger's Phone where you are not certain whether it's waterproof or not.

        • @AznMitch:

maybe they are harder. Our family has had 4 Sony phones, all waterproof and never needed to get fixed/replace a screen. (thats over 2 years now).

I didnt think the iphone is waterproof.

        • +1

@PVA: I was talking about Galaxy S5, shouldn't have digressed this much but when Myright said s5 at same price, I thought he was referring to a local stock. :(

        • @AznMitch:

The iPhone isn't waterproof.. So I'm not sure what the issue is.

        • @trumpedup: Never said I considered iPhone 5c as a option for my gf. :) I was just looking at the S5 deal on its own.

        • @AznMitch:
Oh I see. Anyways I had to order a new glass back for my z2 (I broke the glass). I installed it myself and now I just assume it isn't waterproof. So it isn't any different to my other non water proof phones that I have.

        • @trumpedup: I think it's just my personality, I personally think S5 gave up a lot of things to get the waterproof feature. So part of me would hate to have non functioning waterproof feature on S5.

Also I think if waterproof wasn't there, Galaxy S4 (i9506) and S5 are almost comparable to each other to an extent where I'd choose S4 given S5 is more expensive, heavier and larger with similar screen size.

If you wants IOS, there is really not much option as all iPhones are expensive. You and I will not buy it but there are a lot of peoples genuinely like IOS and Apple products and to them, it is good value and cheap entry price into the IOS ecosystem.

Why is this a bargain for a phone that's almost 2 years old?

    • +13

      It's yellow jv….. YELLOW!!!!!!

    • +7

Mainly because the iPhone 5C 8GB, despite it's age, is still a current model and selling at Apple and many other retailers for $500+. This is twice the memory for at least $60 less.

    • +9

And when I saw you commented I was expecting you to ask what the normal price is ;)

    • +2

It's pretty much an Iphone 5 with a cheaper casing, so more like 3. Pricing is ridiculous.

    • +3

It's not just any normal phone, it's an iphone.

  • +23

I wish I was an iPhone, I would get all the chicks, even when I'm old

    • Lol classic comment

    • +2

Also chicks would love you even if you are ~4 inch when the others are like ~6 inch.

  • The 5c is a lovely iPhone.

I purchased five when they were on sale for $399 for the 5c 32GB.

I kept one. I don't use it. Just keep it as a spare phone. It is so comfortable in ones hand. I call it my mini iPhone 6.

The problem with buying these from JB HiFi is that some stores will not sell to you unless you open and activate the phone before you leave the store.

This is why I left their JB HiFi Bondi Juction store and made my purchases from the TELSTRA store downstairs.

      You failed OzBargain…

      • +8

actually thats what makes ozbargain great….buy first decide if you need it later

      • +7

        You failed OzBargain…

        Not really.

I re-sold the four other iPhones to friends who did not need the $30 SIM packs.

I activated the SIMs one at a time as data SIMs and my son used them with a pocket WiFi device, as he was in hospital at the time.

    • "I purchased five……….."

I'm surprised that purchasing 5 phones like that doesn't attract the attention of the anti-crime or anti-terror agencies :)

Well, I have recently purchased six of the ZTE F286 phones form Coles. I understand that some other OzBargainers have purchased ten or more.

Yes, but they're all now in jail…

  • By the way - these iPhones are NOT carrier locked.

    • +1

Can confirm this as i got 3 from previous batch $399 offer..

  • +3

When I got the email for this from JB I was expecting $199-250. When I saw the actual price I just rolled my eyes and deleted it.

    Cool story hey.

  • +3

It was more of a bargain 6 months ago when it was $50 cheaper and 32GB version https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/172109. Not as attractive at this higher price.

    • Low AUD… SAD FACE

      • 2 years old model gets influenced by current exchange rate?

Though be fair, I suppose that the retailers can be a douche and charge more on older models since newer models are more expensive because of that. (or it could be new stock that has been imported recently, which I somehow doubt).

  • everything about this sounds horrible to me…

    superceded phone

    bad colour

    locked to telstra

and JBs pain in the ass 'mothers maiden name' torture to buy a phone

    and all for $449

    • +3

But it has a fruit on it.

  • -4

the sheep are out to play

  • Can you get this one without the sim, i-e- phone only or you need to the get the number with this also?

    • Can you get this one without the sim, i-e- phone only or you need to the get the number with this also?

The SIM package is stuck to the outside of the iPhone package. So you can peal it off, and still have a sealed iPhone package.

Then you can send the SIM pack to me.

I note that JB HiFi state the the $30 SIM credit is only valid for 14days after the SIM is activated. This sounds a little strange. All the TELSTRA Pre-Paid SIM packs I activated lasted for 30 days.

  • Btw….no iPhone is locked to any network….

    • +1

      yes they are……….
you can lock and unlock them via GSX.

      • you can lock and unlock them via GSX

What is GSX, and why would one want to carrier lock their iPhone?

It would seem to be a strange thing to want to do.

    • -3

kevin22 you have no idea what you are talking about.

      • As of iphone 5… no iphone are locked to any network. If you get this phone. It will work on any network without needing to unlocked.

        • Got a reference for that?

    • +1

Btw….no iPhone is locked to any network….

Yes, this is correct for Australian market IPhones. All new iPhones have been supplied unlocked since the iPhone 5.

  • If you get iPhone from VirginMobile, they are unlock.

If you get an iPhone from OPTUS, they are not carrier locked.

If you get an iPhone from Vodafone they are not carrier locked.

If you get an iPhone from TELSTRA, they are not carrier locked.

If you get an iPhone from Apple, they are not carrier locked.

  • They say YELLOW is a FUNNY COLOUR.

I totally agree, as I laughed at this deal when I first saw it.

    • +1

Yellow is a special colour, in the old days, only an emperor can wear yellow clothings, so this phone is fit for a king.

      • that's Yellowish Gold if you see clearly. iPhone's yellow is very yellow. Still laughing at this colour.

Try to buy this and the gold version and gift to a Chinese, see which one he wants.

16gb storage is fairly small these days. Considering around 4gb is already used by the operating system. And the size of IOS upates, applications and games is only getting larger. Price is also not that great as you can get new iPhone 5c 16gb for under $400 delivered elsewhere.

I don't want to buy one, but where?

    • check ebay

      • +1

        check ebay

        I just did.

Using the search criteria - In Australia, Brand New. Unlocked, 5c, 16GB, Buy-it-Now - the ONLY "new", unlocked, buy it now, iPhone 5c 16GB phones available are $505.80 each. And they are not still in their retail packaging. So they are not actually "brand new".

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Apple-iPhone-5C-16GB-Yellow-Non-R…

Note: that any other 5c 16GB on eBay that are slightly under $400 are grey or private imports, and no matter what the sellers claim about warranty - they have no 2 year consumer guarantee nor Apple Australia Warranty.

        • +1

Thanks didn't realize that. Just took another look at the cheep listings. They ether say contact us for warranty, so no mention of manufacturer warranty from Apple AU or don't mention anything about warranty at all which is very dodgy.
