I would say the redemption codes are US only, most likely download codes from Amazon digital services. No guarantee it will be a Steam code.

From the fine print: Offer expires at 11:59 p.m. (PT) June 1st, 2015.

Offer only applies to products sold and shipped by Amazon.com or digital content sold and delivered by Amazon Digital Services, Inc. (other than certain limited Kindle book titles).

    Offer good while supplies last.

Items must be purchased in a single order and shipped at the same speed to a single address.

Digital content and services may only be available to customers located in the U.S. and are subject to the terms and conditions of Amazon Digital Services, Inc.

Past experience suggests the codes will be given to you when you ship to OZ

And they will work here too without a VPN.

I know this from the last 5 video cards I've bought off Amazon…

If when you get your card the codes aren't included in the box, just do live chat with Amazon support and they will help you out.

      • fair enough, Amazon do have a good support system I give them that

      • My experience with an SSD that included a code for Far Cry 4 was that it WAS US only, but I was able to get an Amazon voucher for the value of the game at the price Amazon was selling it at. Which was considerably less than the purchase price from AU, but still, better than nothing.

  • Witcher 3 would be included in it's GOG edition. Batman not so sure because the promotion is new and I'm not sure the coupons would be inside the box.

You will need to obtain the game keys from nvidia website using the coupon that come in the box.

70 bucks is not really enough of a discount imo to buy from overseas and the issues that could arise with that, if it was $150 discount over AUS version i would give it a go but

    • Heh, seriously?

Wow, is it the year 2006 again?

      Another console vs pc arguement.

I've been looking for a GTX card purely for 4K viewing for a LG TV a bought.

There's the comfort of gaming on a PC system to take into account.

There's the massive list of games that would run on a PC and not on PS4 or Xbox.

There's the free user created mods that you don't have to pay a single cent for PC games. There's people who make games run better (Skyrim Unofficial Patches) that are otherwise ignored by devs.

There's the frequent game sales that go on from GOG, Nuuvem, Steam, Humble Bundle. You can literally get 10 games for less than $5 bucks.

The multiplayer is completely free. You can have LAN parties with 16, 24 or 32 players.

There's the huge amount of accessories and input peripherals you can use with a PC. Joypad? Check. Realistic flight controls? Check. Driving controls? Multiple monitors with more than 1080p resolution? Check. Virtual reality headsets? Head tracking? Check!!

So yeah, there's a lot of value in PC gaming, until consoles get moddable games, mouse/KB support, 3d VR headsets, and multiplayer that you don't have to pay a montly fee for, it just isn't as great as PC gaming.

You have to be hiding under a rock and not keeping up with tech if you think console gaming is better than PC gaming. We've made incredible strides with gameplay enhancements on the PC platform that would take enormous amount of time to implement on a console without making it too expensive for casual gamers to afford.

      • Thanks for good post. Never considered using PC for gaming on TV, always thought you had to have both PC and console. Since your post, I watched a few youtube videos and you really can have a console-type experience (eg. navigate with XB1 controller instead of keyboard/mouse) with just a PC hooked up to HDMI on your TV.

So what's the appeal of consoles, then? Are there games that are just never released on PC?

        • Yeah, theres a few console exclusives which are the reason a lot of people still buy consoles instead of a PC.
For example, I have an Xbox One for Halo, Gears and Forza, and a PC for everything else.

      • Anyway, off the topic. Do you think that GTX 970 will bottleneck FX 8350. This is the most doubtful thing I had. Most people in tomshardware said it will bottleneck

    • I don't like consoles , but I reckon it's a good point. Also you're not taking into account price of games.
I guess if someone is paying $400 for a graphic card there's some interest on higher visual quality.

    • +8

Yea, but can your PS4 run e-tax?

      Ya, didn't think so.

    • +4

No guarantee that a PS4 will have a 10 year life, though.

      • +2

I'd say it is a guarantee you won't get 10 years from the PS4.

Even if it is still working in 10 years, you won't wanna play the crap games on PS4 when you can play them on the PS5 or PS6

    • -1

For last generation, I had to replace a PS3 due to YLOD. The console was 3 years old before it decided to die on me. My friend on the other hand had to replace 3 XBOX Elite's in a space of a couple of years thanks to RROD. So in a space of 3 years I had spent $1300 ($800 for PS3 phat, $500 for PS3 Slim).

In 2011 I decided to build a PC that cost me >$1000. I have yet to have a single issue with it and can play all console games at a higher setting (res, frames etc) than their respective console counterpart. This is not mentioning how much I save on PC games buying them digitally, spending at max $40-50 on brand new releases and don't get me started on steam sales, and also no online subscription.

That's my story. I used to be a console fanboy but since I realised the benefits of PC vs Console I've never looked back. Your argument of consoles having a 10 year life vs 3 for a VGA is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read tbh. I hope you realise the components of a PS4 were already outdated even before it was released.

    • PC Games are also way cheaper.
      I also own a PS4 and a PS3.

    • This latest generation of consoles won't see a 10 year cycle like the PS3/360. They're already working on the next generation since this one is so underwhelming.

Pretty good price, but the 970 Memory Bug issue are a let down, you'll be ok if you don't use 3.5GB VRAM on the card, the other 0.5 is used for buffered. I say stay way from this this card if you're going to Max out the setting at 1080p or higher. FrameRate will drop significantly if you go above 3GB memory usage.

    • -3

Again, stop spreading false information. There is no such thing as frame rate dropping significantly when it uses the 0.5 section. The slowdown is only 1-2% in total performance that could be achieved and that 1-2% does not make your frame rate goes from 60 to 30 :)

      • From 60 to 30 frames is significant.

          stahp posting

      • +5

You're the one spreading this misinformation.

Using the last 0.5gb to render causes large amounts of stuttering. It's not a case of "the last 0.5gb isn't as good as the previous 3.5gb", it's actually detrimental to it once you go above 3.5gb.

I don't know why people just don't go and buy a Sapphire 290x. Fantastic cooling, actually has 4gb of vram and it's feasible for gaming beyond 1080p. It's a bad time to be buying graphics cards if you're after a bargain anyway.

  • +1

Be aware that these are taller than your standard 970 guys (both the card and the pipes) and quite a few people have had issues putting them in ITX / MATX cases. Good price though, compared to local.

    • Best to buy the Low Profiler version of this Card.

      • There are no low profile versions of this card.

Low profile means that the width of the card is smaller than standard. Note there are no low profile versions of this card. but there are short PCB versions. These have shorter length so can be good for ITX/MATX.

Short PCB versions include ASUS GeForce GTX 970 DirectCU Mini and Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Mini ITX.

  • Thinking of buying this card with new cpu and motherboard to upgrade my pc. Would this build for gaming work ok?

    Gigabyte Z97M-D3H (Gigabyte P55A-UD3R P55 1156pin USB3 DDR3 Motherboard)

    Intel Core i5 4690K (Intel Core i5-750 2.66Ghz LGA1156 CPU)

Asus Strix GTX 970 (Gigabyte GTX 560Ti)

    Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 MHz

Aero Cool VX-E Pro Tower Case without PSU

Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB SSD

Corsair TX-650 ATX Power Supply Unit

    ASUS Xonar DX 7.1

    ASUS SATA DVD RW

    • That would be quite nice yeah - any particular reason you're getting the Xonar card though? That Gigabyte mobo has decent audio out… and you could put that money towards getting the GTX980 instead (which would be more future proof etc).

      • Thanks! I bought the sound card 5 years ago so already have it, can't remember why :P

    • Pretty much trying to upgrade from the exact same build. Got the New Graphics card and PSU just need the CPU and MB. How is the MB and CPU if you have already have it? Does it over clock well? Wondering where's the best place to buy parts here as my first build was from US.

      • +1

Haven't bought them yet. Was going to purchase this graphics card+cpu on amazon as it came out cheaper and then buy the motherboard locally. Maybe checkout staticice.com.au for where to find the parts the cheapest. I don't know much about pc's and just picked the parts to upgrade from here: http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/rmp_sg_whirlpoolpcs_gaming_conf…

Nice deal, I got one of these on the weekend from my local Umart for $519.

Seriously awesome card, soooooo quiet and cool compared to my old GTX580. Like, incredibly huge difference.

It also overclocks like a boss, for squeezing some more out of it.

Also, been using over 3.5gb of VRAM without any issues, so that 3.5gb/0.5gb doesn't seem like an issue, at least on my card.

Got my Witcher 3 code ready to go.

    • Did you mean normal MSI gaming app OC mode (1364mHZ)? Or you OC it to 1500mHz? I dont think it'w worth it to OC new GPU card

      • I OC'd it to ~1500mHz boost clock and ~8000mHZ memory clock.

        • I don't think it's a good idea to OC your GPU, quite risky and you gain only a bit performance

        • @rodinthink: Nah man, new gpu's are made to OC and there's plenty of protection to stop you breaking it.
Unless you're changing the bios, using an OC tool like MSI Afterburner won't let you increase the voltage and clocks enough to do any damage at all.
Plus its a decent FPS boost.

For anyone interested I paid $450 AUD (shipped) for the MSI version last week. The warranty will be covered in Australia by MSI. I got confirmation from them myself.

I've also received my witcher 3 code which works here but they weren't running the batman promo then so probably missed out on that.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NN0GEXQ/ref=ya_st_dp_sum…

Edit: looks like a little cheaper now than when I got it.

    • So the version you bought are from amazon. Amazon email u the game code? Even though your addresss are not US?

      • I had a US address but an Australian shipping address.

Both witcher 3 codes I received were GoG codes. Not steam FYI.

    • A locally honoured warranty makes a big difference to me. Believe EVGA also offer it from memory.

      • +1

EVGAs is not really a local warranty. It's more like a world wide warranty. However, their nearest service center is Taiwan so you have to send it there (and cover the cost.) Probably cheaper than sending to US but not sure. You would be better off trying to get Amazon to pay for your return shipping to the US first rather than go straight to EVGA.

I am surprised to hear MSI Aus will honour warranty of cards from the US. I know their warranty practices are generally well regarded in AUS but yeah this is really good, if true. I don't know any other GPU maker who's Australian service center will look after your international card.

    • +1

ive had dealings with the local sydney MSI warranty people and found they were very easy to deal with. Great service!

      • Yup they are definitely good to deal with which is why I'm heading the MSI route. The cards themselves have very subtle differences which make it more a personal preference than anything else.

Local RMA and quality service tipped me over the edge with MSI.

  • Code is inside the box. All the boxes have the witcher code, Batman promo is newer so there's some risk there.

I'm between the this Asus or the Gainward Phantom from MSI - But of course, I'd like to get both game codes :-)

    • I've bought two 970 cards in this promo. From two different sources. Neither were in the box (witcher 3). They were both emailed to me.

  • For an Australian ASUS card, you fill out a form on an asus website with serial number etc, then they send you a code for redemption on the Nvidia website. Then the game gets linked to your account.
I dunno how it is in the states though.

  • Shipped actually is $450 AUD, not $435, because the conversion are actually 1USD to 1.301 AUD on Amazon. The PLE deal at $469 is a better bargain(expired now)

  • I've had to RMA 2 EVGA 970 SC ACX2 cards, due to coil whine issues. The third was OK.

The difference in price in my view does not, justify the hassles associated with RMA'ing overseas purchased cards.

You get Witcher 3 for locally purchased units.

    • The Asus ones are known to have no coil whine.

  • how long does it take for amazon to ship?

    • +1

      10-12 days

    • I ordered mine 10 days ago via snail postage and its arrived this afternoon at the Brisbane depot. It still has expected delivery May 13th but seeing as its here already I could have mine by the weekend.

    • I bought many stuff from Amazon. They always come before the Estimated Date of Delivery

  • $10 rebate listed, would this be available to us?

    • +2

      for the USA addresses only.

  • Just bought two for my new pc :D

    • Great! What LCDs are you using for SLI?

      • I use my pc as a lounge/theatre PC, do looking at a new 4k 65" panel and a secondary 24" 4k monitor.. hopefully this new setup has the balls to dual screen.

  • +1

For those wondering, I got emailed both codes for batman and witcher 3 to redeem at nvidia. Batman added to steam, witcher 3 to gog without any problems.

    • I just purchased this card yesterday. How long does it take for the games code to arrive??

      • +1

        It took 5 days :)
