FREE Insync Plus for The Next 13 Hours with Gmail Account

930

As per title, sign up with your Gmail account within 13 hours and get a free Insync Plus account (about 13 hours and 30 mins left of the deal left at the time of this posting (11:15AM Sydney))

It's a Google Drive app (for desktop too now), which is better than the default google one. See more details at their site

Once you sign in you can download it straight away.

I have a feeling it's only the trial version though, once I log in, it shows me a referral link I can use to get extra trial days (10 referrals gets you insync for free?) - if anyone else can confirm, would be good to note
EDIT: I got an email saying that I have a free Insync Plus account so maybe it isn't a trial after all.

Looking at their site, I'm not sure what the advantage of this over the Google client is.
The list of supposed advantages is either well out of date or deliberately misleading, as the Google client has a fair number of those features already.
I'd also be very wary in handing over my Google Drive credentials to an unknown third party.

Not negging your deal, just not seeing the value in it, that's all.

    • For one you can use it on Linux, there's no official client for Linux.

      • Yes, it is surprising that Google who have a lot of their employees on linux desktops still have not released a linux client.

      • What would be the advantage of a Linux ago over just using the browser?

        • +1

For one, having the files auto-sync with your computer's hard drive when they're edited (Google Drive isn't just for online documents; you can also use it to sync files like Dropbox).

@cjmac: Does the app offer the choice of overwriting or versioning?

        • @greenpossum: I'm really not sure - I've never seen it hidden in the menus. Drive itself does have versioning though, via the online interface.

linux version leaked in recent mac builds :)

I believe you can use multiple Google Drive accounts on the one PC.

      • all at once (eg, with several instances of the S/W? Or what?

        • With one instance of insync.

      • -1

Um, so what is Google Drive anyway?

        • +3

          Wtf is google anyway?

          NVM ill just Bing it

      • -3

No problem doing that with the browser just use incognito tabs.

    • +4

You actually sign in through googles own site using oauth2, so they don't ever see your password details.

    • The stock client has a habit of ramping up the CPU during idle and eating your battery, Insync doesn't

    • Hm…having my personal files read by Google is quite worrying activity for me; but now having another company reading my files…not sure about this…

I do find google drive is flaky (even with Windows), this deal looks appealing as long as it works…i'll give it a try anyway :)

    • Did anyone else get security alerts (eg, from AVG free), after installing (but not yet login to) Insync Plus, of this deal?

(We got 2, not necessarily from Insync…?)

    grabbed it cheers

we'll see if i ever use it beyond what i did now of just installing it

  • Dead website? Ozbargained?

  • Linux support is great, pity there's no lan sync

  • It's good for Linux users!

      Both of them!

It seems like the app is still in active development, which is promising. https://support.insynchq.com/t/new-insync-version-1-2-9/1104

I have played around with it for a few minutes, it is actually really good. I didn't sync anything through it to begin with. I opened a link to my https://drive.google.com/ and it told me that Google says I can now view photos now through drive, so I said OK, and then it started syncing all those photos (which I didn't want synced) so I used InSync to cancel that with selective sync.

It also has a progress area, a history feed and a usage stats pie graph.

The UI could be a little better, I just clicked on a blue plus sign wondering what it does, I think it lets you have multiple Drive accounts. The ease of use of switching, would make this the best way to do that through Windows unless you go for a dedicated app: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/five-apps/five-tools-to-hel…

    • If you're looking for a Google Drive client which is a bit more mature, try Syncdocs http://syncdocs.com. It adds loads of features to the stock Google Drive client, but is not available on Linux, though.

Honest question - how secure are they?

I mean, this is giving permission for another 3rd party to read my data. I have enough problem already with trusting Google.

Hmm this doesn't seem to work with Google apps accounts? Is that correct or a bug in their system? When I use my google apps login, I get "error please use a gmail account". Shame I tried them years ago and was fairly impressed.

    • +1

Yes doesnt work with my g apps account too :(

    • +1

Deal breaker. Damn. Really unimpressed by the Google Drive client, so was going to be happy to give this a shot, but kinda pointless if I can't use my Google Apps accounts.

    • Ditto.

  • +2

I think it is still a trial - after I installed it it says 15 days left trial

    • +1

On mine if I click on my face -> Manage -> Account Settings it says

      License Information
Thank you for buying Insync Plus!

    • Did you register through the link first?
I tried downloading the app first, but was also getting the trial message.
Had to register through https://www.insynchq.com/24hours before it said it was purchased.

  • Bought it more than 2 years ago and it's been great!

  • +1

    Looks like a trial …
you have to refer 10 people before you get to use it free.

  • Does it propagate the sync of changes in stuff like R/W properties of files? Also does it allow selective sync based on wildcards etc?

Edit seems it does from the feature list

It doesn't support Google apps for your domain login, has to be gmail. Boooo

  • don't even use google drive/gmail.. signed up anyway -_-

  • Can anyone get this to work with a university google account? When i sign up, it says "Error: You must select a gmail account.".

Would be great if it works, my university provides unlimited google drive storage.

    • Yes, I had same problem with business gmail account (with domain other than gmail.com)

  • Awesome!!! I remember the google drive client does not support resuming of uploads. This one does.

  • It looks quite nice, pity it needs to be installed. I'd really like a portable version I can run off a USB drive.

  • I think I just got in in time. Got an email saying "you now have a free Insync plus account" so that must be it.

  • For those saying it doesn't support Google Apps domains - that is incorrect
This FREE offer is not valid for GApps accounts - only Gmail
However if you purchase the software it will work with a GApps account
As a majority of Apps accounts are business or edu they are probably trying to avoid being smashed with free corporate users
When I signed up for a trial I got emails repeatedly saying buy for $15 but towards the end of the trial I got an offer for $5 purchase
So if you have an apps account you may get it for $5 if you sign up for trial

    Advantages
You can use multiple Google accounts each to their own local folder - accumulate lots of free storage
Automated sim links so you can add ANY folder to your GDrive storage (that is yo don't need to move the files inside the G Drive structure
    Works with Linux

    Disadvantage
It currently sux at the first time sync
Even if you have all your files on the local hard drive it basically has to dl the whole file to comapre with local copy
If you have a large G Drive (I have 50gb) it takes a bloody long time and uses up your bandwidth
Once the initial sync is done it is ok from there
This problem happens twice though if you dual boot WIn & Linux - there is a first time dl on each OS - no way round it
Developers are working on improving this including adding Lan sync compare - but it is currently sub-par
Scheduled for version after next according to the reply I got in forums - I am guessing that is 6 mths plus

  • Bah, program doesn't preserve the file properties at all. False advertising
