      Lol!

      Probably not intentional, but lol!

    • +5

If we had a dumbest comment competition you would be the winner forever.

    • +1

Better see if you can find a deal for a cheap flight to China then :D

    • Swisse make a milk formula pill? Surely a choking hazard to the child?

    • +1

I doubt Swisse would share the same anger as you would. Besides if they're buying them in bulk at normal prices, who cares. We'd have one fewer Aussie companies to shut down. Holden and Westinghouse factories would be looking at this with red eyes…

      • +2

We'd have one fewer Aussie companies to shut down. Holden and Westinghouse factories would be looking at this with red eyes…

Neither of those are Australian companies, are they? They both have international parents but local manufacturing (for now). I at least did my bit and bought an Electrolux fridge a couple of years ago. It is sad to see all these local jobs disappear though.

        • +1

It is sad, but it's doubly sad when you look at the Australian made fridge.. looks outdated, much more expensive than the big brands, low resale value, and doesn't give you the confidence it is going to be a worthy choice.

I wondered like why Land Rover and Jaguar suddenly had nice and updated designs after international ownership was transferred from EU/US to Asia. Why couldn't they have done this beforehand? Poor management I think.

    • +14

There's some truth to what Frozensage said. Walked into chemist warehouse after seeing this deal and saw 2-3 asian customers literally emptying certain swisse products into shopping buckets.

The product I was after was out of stock :(

      • +8

So 2 to 3 customers got there before you and they sold out. Get there earlier next time. Or are you wanting a race specific quota?

        • +4

It's not about getting there earlier… I was merely stating that there's some truth to what Frozensage said. Half the shelf was already empty and the customers I mentioned in my post seemed to be grabbing whatever was left.

Not sure what relevance your comment about a "race specific quota" has. It's just an observation!

    • +2

This is why there are limits of two on baby formula, for example. They get bought out and sent back OS or sold in Asian grocery shops.

    • +10

Honestly I dont like the commment BUT it is actually true…and it is sad because im half aussie half chinese

      • +2

Did you at least get half a bottle of swisse?

      • +1

Interesting. I observed the same behavior last night at my local CW. Didn't think much of it, as I don't take supplements anyway.

There is probably some sort of organized system in-place to buy and ship these back for resale.

        • You are 100% correct. There are businesses/organisations are doing this sort of work to make profits, at the expense of the real needs of the locals.

    • +6

What Frozensaga says is on the spot.

Heaps of Chinese souvenir stores or what they call overseas back to China shop, do dedicated business to send milk powder and vitamins especially branded products like Swiss and formula milk to make profits. I know they have these practices because they have links with taobao online shop

I say it's bullshit because it makes locals unable to get the goods.

They should make it illegal because they send agents to go to different stores at each suburb to grab as much stock as they can. There's nothing left for the regular customers.

Even with limits for two per person it doesn't stop these agents go to another app next suburb to stock up.

Swiss and the like got no limit doesn't say two per person

      • +4

Personally, I don't see the problem. Swiss just needs to manufacture more product. Win (you) win (pharmacy) win (Swiss) win (Chinese).

        • +1

I see a problem as we are competing with these companies buying retail to resale

        • What's the actual problem?

        • +7

          Think this way.

If you have grandparents who are on pension and low income, and they asked you to help buy the Blackmore calcium bone tablets etc.

Every time on discount there's no stock.

It wasn't like this few years ago.

It's as if internally someone informed their friends or these businesses sending agents to grab everything when the local elderlys can get nothing, they are not mobile and don't know how to order online even if you want to order online they are always out of stock.

          So how would you feel?

Do you not have families who need these products due to medical conditions? And genuinely need to buy just one or two where these behaviours buy in bulk and make profits create shortage

          Do you understand this?

Easy for you to think for yourselves. This society has rotten

        • -5

          @neonlight:
Getting a product on special is not a right. You can't rely on it. I'm sure they can scrape together another $4 from their pension.

        • +4

          @jazoom:
Do you really have an idea how much is an age pension per couple? It is less than $325 per week per couple (yes $162.50 per person - around $23 per person per day), and that has to cover everything food, water, phone, utilities, medicines, car rego, repairs, tyres…

It is easy saying "I'm sure they can scrape together another $4 from their pension." when it is on somebody's else back, as the old saying goes 25 whiplashes are not to painful on someone's else back…

        • +1

          @jazoom
Do you really think retailers will jump over hoops to get more stock just to get them sold at half price?
Your argument that its win win for manufacturers et all are flawed because the people hoarding all the stock aren't buying them at full price.

      • I say it's bullshit because it makes locals unable to get the goods.

So stop buying stuff internationally. You may be depriving an American or Brit their Android watch/mobile/tablet or BluRay or whatever. Imagine all the poor Chinese wanting to charge their Xiaomi mobiles and listen to music but there were no more powerbanks and headphones. :(

Why don't you set up a business to sell milk, formula and vitamins to these guys? They are obviously unable to buy at wholesale due to incompetence.

They should make it illegal because they send agents to go to different stores at each suburb to grab as much stock as they can. There's nothing left for the regular customers.

So it should be illegal for people to walk into shops and buy stuff with legal tender? Shops should check IDs to make sure you are a "local". Got it.

Oh, should we just check passports? I don't normally pop down to the shops with it so it may be inconvenient. How about we check drivers license? Hang on, those agents are cunning and they'll send kids so that won't work. I have to make sure I get this right because change.org needs to know about this issue.

        • So much rage and exaggeration.

          So stop buying stuff internationally

When I buy stuff overseas I buy for my own personal consumption and not in mass quantity for resale. I suspect that applies to a lot of other people too. Whether you like to hear it or not, hoarders are an issue and trying to sweep it all under carpet because apparently discussion on this topic is 'taboo' 'racist' etc won't solve it.

        • -2

          @payton:

Was the obvious exaggeration that obvious? Not sure where the rage was though.

When you buy stuff overseas do you actually know what the supply chain is?

When a country has approximately 19% of the world's population and they have growing demand for certain products (milk, supplements, etc), are paying above world average prices locally and have little trust in the local products then that demand will be satisfied somehow. We don't even represent 0.4% of the world's population so what we do has little impact unless we all start buying essential health products from Malta.

    • Now that you mention it, every time there is a vitamin sale on, there are always Asians filling up the vitamin aisle, whenever I have popped into either of the two Elizabeth St stores (mychemist) or Carnegie store. They are almost always speaking Chinese.

It's so packed in these aisles I usually have to use other aisles to get where I need to go.

Didn't realise they were buying up only the swisse brand, seems strange.

      • +3

Not just Swisse, others include Blackmore, Karicare, A2 I can name all these.

There are some local Australian Citizen born Chinese here who do buy some for themselves for intake, however they are being treated the same like these reselling agents as others cannot tell if they are locals or business agents.

It's like the property market, you cannot assume its all foreign buyers.

However a majority of them are agents. Some evidences to suggest:-

I noticed a lot of people take photos then use WeChat to share to overseas, I believe they have links to stores online in China and they are communicate via WeChat. With images then compare pricing and resell to make profits.

This is the secret behind. You can't hide from me. I'm born to be an investigator that's what fortune teller tells me

I'm sure there are Ozbarginers here who belong to these Reselling agencies.

Suspicious activity if you see bulk buying and/or boxes (be on trolleys what not) getting to a sovenir store wtih a Chemist warehouse staff member in droves.

Try shaking your WeChat in a CW store see what happens? How about spamming add friends request to annoy them a bit?

A current affair program should be done to reveal these secrets, and there should be some policy/law to regulate these behaviours.

It is called "代购" in Chinese. They should be BANNED completely.

Make profits at the expense of geniune needs of locals, is the problem!

Most recent news suggests CW shops are doing this themselves as well. Keeping stock aside for Express China Courier Service.

        http://news.china.com.au/2015/03/%E4%BB%A3%E8%B4%AD%E8%BF%98…

You be shocked to find that CW staff will tell you there's no limit if you use their service to post directly to China….so quantity limit doesn't exist. Is this flawed? Yes it is, because as a regular customer you can only buy limit of 2.

In Hong Kong, this has already happened to their Chemist stores. You bet this is spread now to AUS

All they think is $, they should be fined

Fantastic, I'm going to stock up on the "Placebo" brand

    • +2

Make sure you check out iherb & vitacost if your into vitamins and stuff.. heaps cheaper than local.

    • +15

Any good deal on kids vitamin and iron supplements?

Yes! Feed them fruit, veg, meat, dairy, pulses. More proper food, less junk and no pills.
But even kids who live on McDonalds are not deficient in vitamins or iron.

      • +3

100% agree with this. Feed your kids a proper healthy diet and no vitamin supplements are needed.

      • But surely vitamins and no food is cheaper? This i OzBargain sadly

The thing is, you shouldn't take anything in high doses. I've recently started taking a multivitamin (low doses of many things) and I've noticed a real difference in the integrity of my fingernails (yes, yes, I know, n = 1). I don't know what I was lacking before but I'm glad I have it now (I generally eat a healthy and well-balanced diet).

Also, no one is more interested in evidence-based medicine than me. I'm a doctor and I also like to look after myself.

      And marketing is bullshit.

      • Even if n=1, I'd still like to know which multivitamin you are taking. Might need it one day.

        • +1

Centrum. I got it for half price a couple of months ago.

      • Just suggesting: I started that natural one called 'Hair Skin and Nails' years ago. Sorry, forget the brand but Chemist Warehouse will be able to id it. Not sure about the hair, but the fingernails grew so long quickly and were as hard as. I had to cut them weekly. That stuff really works.

        • That's Swisse
          Gray/silver lid

I've been taking that for a while and didn't notice much difference (a while being about 3-4 months)

I switched to a more expensive one in Chemist Warehouse called Silica? Or something…and noticed a big difference in nails.

That being said, depends what your deficiency is.

        • +1

@ssx: Mine is definitely Vit D deficiency. I so hate the sun and will avoid it at all costs. No wonder my hair is dropping like crazy. I found the vits I took made my fingernails grow (which I really don't care much about and find more of a hassle) but the hair growth remained static!

        • @momov3: Aren't you supposed to just take Ostelin for Vit D deficiency?

        • @nfr:

you should be very cautious about taking calcium supplements. more calcium does not necessarily mean stronger bones. and if you take it in large doses your body doesn't know what to do with it and just dumps it in your veins & kidney and gall bladder.

        • @mattgal:
True. I don't take any supplements, but if one day my GP says I need to, I'd have to choose a brand, and Centrum would be a reasonable one to try.

        • @mattgal: Ostelin also makes capsules with only Vitamin D, no Calcium.

        • @momov3:
I concur, I hate the sun…if you take iron, make sure you don't take them at the same time

        • @mattgal: whoa really? That might explain a lot :\

  • For cosmetics, avoid their unsealed mascaras! I've seen grotty women use the new ones on their eyes, you don't want their eye infection!

Half price protein powder is in there if anyone even lifts

    • +1

A serious lifter & OZbargainer probably isn't shopping at MyChemistWarehouse for protein…

      • What about the 'less serious' ?

        • I have bought the mrs a bucket of Musashi from there at half price about 2 years ago, she isn't a serious lifter, but likes the flavour (full of sugar, Musashi is).

She hasn't even finished it yet..

        • @nismo: good on her. I'm sure she's developed half a bucket at least of good muscle tone. The carbs building powder I bought from CW for a skinny member of my family made a difference to his energy levels and his physique. He was not striving to have those gigantic biceps he just wanted to build more weight as he just cannot pile the kilos. Super high metabolism and always lean. Would give anything to be in his shoes.

        • @momov3:
Sounds much like the position I'm in. Mrs doesn't put on weight easily at all. If I look at sugar my stomach grows (with stored fat!).

I'm not a serious lifter, but serious about nutrition. Just prefer to buy protein elsewhere, like Bulk Nutrients etc.

      • the price is pretty decent if you're not fussy about the protein 2 KG for $38. http://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/product.asp?id=65352&pnam…

        • That is a decent price, never tried USN before, low carb is good but it says low stock and in store only.

I've got about a years worth of wpc at home, so I shouldn't buy any!

      • Where about's would I go for cheap powder?

  • there's no ONE solution. even if Australia stops exporting supplements to China, other countries would still allow.
only if the RRP is applied equally across the world, and discount is applied in all countries, then there's no need to try buy cheaper ones else where.
is it possible for the above to happen? I don't see how it's possible.

    • I don't think people in China are buying these supplements because its cheaper here, they're buying it from Australia/1st world countries because the drugs are safe and haven't been messed around with / contaminated with who knows what / counterfeit.

Lots of young international students buy a crapload of baby powder and supplements, I highly doubt they have a baby while on a student visa. They send them back to China for a good profit, the ones in China who can afford it probably pay double the price of their local stores and Aust stores, or even more.

      • Same deal with the iphones and all the apple gadget… you buy it here and send it back over there to make quick buck. There are plenty of ppl with money over there and just want quality genuine goods. I heard stories of ppl paying to buy empty swisse bottle and then top them up with random crap and selling it online.

Neg me all you want but that's the truth. I have not seen the swisse cranberry ultiboost in stock for over 2 month now. Wonder who is buying them up?

        • I went in to my local CW again tonight, to fill a prescription. After reading this thread last night, the scene made much more sense.

Normally, you'd see 20+ people of various ethnicities in the store, browsing through items, or waiting for scripts.

The last couple of times I've been in this week, I see 10+ Asian men/women (old and young) in each supplements isle examining items. The funny thing is that mostly the disinterested guys were seemingly only there to carry the baskets, which were getting filled by the women. :)

The guys I were mostly disinterested in the whole process.

You can't really blame them for this though. With all the bad publicity local Chinese food & medicines get, it's expected that they would pay a handsome premium for 1st world produced goods.

  • Looked everywhere for a new 1/2 price fragrance called Mayhem and didn't find it. Duh.

    • 1st rule: You don't ask questions about Project Mayhem.

  • Very interesting observation re Asians buying up the expensive supplements to sell back in China. Never heard that one before, and I've not noticed such a rampage whenever I'm at Chemist Warehouse. However, I am not there 24/7 so cannot say it isn't happening. Wonder if these people are selling them back on EBay Au or China as there are plenty supplement sellers on those sites. May I suggest anyone annoyed by this practice to email Head Office with feedback that there should be a limit to the number of a particular brand allowed at checkout per person. I think if enough people make a noise, they will listen.

    • I don't think ebay… probably local shop or something in China. The same thing happens in Hong Kong too, bringing the prices of everything up.

      • In Burwood NSW in the past few months there have been at least 4 new supplement shops that have opened up. All of them have signs in Mandarin and I expect they are selling it off to others that want them.

        • There has been an incident in Burwood Chemist warehouse overwhelmed with customers, and was chaotic to a point that Police was involved.

Yes they ARE SELLING to overseas reducing supplies for locals.

Read my comments above. This is why you have no stock anything CW related.

Both CW and reselling agency shall be fined for their poor practice. Prosecuted for their unethical practices.

I'm not sure why its taking so many Aussies to realise this.

        • @neonlight:

I can actually believe that because I have certainly seen how large the crowds and their shopping basket(s) get. I usually go to the CW near the park to avoid some of the congestion that's in the other CW branch (closer to the station).

Anyway, have you observed the numerous Asian souvenir and outright supplement stores that are basically selling many supplements (mainly swisse and blackmores) along with Chinese remedies? I went on a walk today and counted about 6 that have popped up in total.

I wonder if they are simply going to all chemists, stocking up on all the supplements, restocking it in their shops and selling it for a slight profit as the other Asian consumers cannot get their hands on them any more. Or perhaps it's a front to be able to export it to the mainland?

I really should go inside one and see but everything is written in Chinese so I cannot really make sense of it.

Seriously though, at least 1 has opened every 2-4 weeks.

        • -1

Yeah I notice this especially these few years, there's surge of those shops opened. Not sure if its just a shop front for overseas express service. They do have some stock of the stuff that you can't get from CW, so they make profits on both, the markup of the goods since you can't get it elsewhere, plus the courier service fee.

    • There's a huge mark up for these types of products in China. For example Devondale Milk Powder now has a purchase limit in the supermarket and is now going towards $10 a kilo. 2 years ago the price was only hovering around $6 a kilo. In China you can easily sell it for around $25 a kilo.

    • -1

Someone report the matter to a current affair and ACCC to give these groups some pressure

  • +3

Holy crap I thought this Chinese supplement blitz was a joke bit I kid you not as soon as I enter the Carseldine QLD store and down the vitamins aisle there are a group of 8 Chinese people baskets full of vitamins and supplements. One Chinese guy is leaving with a shopping bag full of them. Here I was earlier having a laugh about these posts but they're legit.

Anyway thanks OP got some USN protein powder 50% off.

    • The catalogue says 50% off RRP for USN… Can't see the USN prices in the catalogue but when I go to the prices on the website it looks to be around $20/kg for the 2 kg amounts. That's not much different than the standard price, isn't it?

      • +1

A while back I was buying the USN IGF-1 protein powder 1kg choc for about $25 on special. However recently they stopped selling the 1kg tubs and went to the 2kg sizes and were asking around $68, I didn't buy any after that. So on sale it was from memory $36 when I bought it last week. The upgrade to the 2kg is a new formula and the choc is more a choc pudding flavor and I'm not a massive fan, prefer the old formula choc flavor.

    • What's the protein % for the USN?
