    • No difference, just the packaging on those 2 packs - it's marketing.

As far as multiple packs per payment, no reports yet. I have a free $50 credit from shopping at Coles which needs a spend over $50 & would love to put towards 2 packs.

Coles may refuse to sell more than 1 pack at a time, and it depends on their computer - it may restrict offer to 1 loyalty discount per purchase - as per offer t&c. Discussed above.
Can always ask for refund on full priced packs if it fails.

    • It's 1 per customer in the T&C, so depending on how the staff that serves you is feeling will depend on how many you will be able to get.
The system itself will only allow 1 offer per transaction, so you will need to do 3 separate transactions to get 3 packs.

      • system itself will only allow 1 offer per transaction

You've tried buying more than 1 pack in a transaction? Don't think anyone has reported back the outcome. So helpful if you can confirm from experience.

        • Actually, no I haven't tried it with this particular deal. Just going off other past experiences with other '1 per customer' sales.

        • @SuiCid3:
Thanks, I thought you might be the first :-(

I doubt more than 1 $1 pack can be bought in 1 transaction. But you never know.

There was the question of can we get multiple packs on 1 $30 shop… (I did at Woolies!).

Now some Coles let people redeem the offer after $30 purchase at service counter, it opens other possibilities…

        • @brucefromaustralia:
Indeed it does. Though everything is dependent on the staff member that serves you. Get a good one and it opens up a number of opportunities to take advantage of. :)

    • +1

The staff was happy to give me two sim cards but she said have to do 2 seperate transactions. i've added skype gift cards, but as stated above they are excluded, the discount was not shown for second sim so have to purchase more stuff to get $30+ shopping. By the way only 2 sim cards were left that i grabbed.

      • Sometimes staff are happy no stock is left to deal with.

  • I am interested in understanding the "international data packs" that you can use the credit for - has anyone looked into how this can be used?

I am assuming it is the 100MB for $29 that I have seen on telstra international roaming website: https://www.telstra.com.au/international-roaming/pre-paid-mo…

I've bought a couple (3) of these seems for my wife to use when she heads to Europe for a couple of weeks (just for emergencies)
can we load up one sim so it has $30 worth of international roaming phone calls (about 5 minutes of talk time while in Turkey!) and one or more data packs paid for with the other sim credit, or is she giong to have to swap out sims depending on what she wants to do?

  • try to get one next week. there is not much good special this week.

  • I go to sleep under a rock for a few days and look what happens.

To my surprise, I was able to get a $30 Telstra starter pack at Coles North Parramatta and they just got some business from me thanks to this deal. The rest the service desk attendant shuffled through were $2 SIMS, so apparently I got lucky.

Thanks OP and thanks everyone else for the useful comments.

I hope they get re-stocked although it looks like this deal has been getting Ozbargained in full swing, not to mention Whirlpooled and whatever else.

  • I had a problem at Coles where the Loyalty discount came up as $5, not $30. The manager had to manually override the pricing. Thankfully he all knew about the offer (must've been an OzBargainer).

  • +1

All good here. Staff allowed me to put sim pack in basket & check out after getting groceries (plenty of half price deals from catalogue). Just checked out as normal & $29 discount popped up at final stage of payment
Bonus for me was expiry date. March 2017

I sadly admit it. I'm suffering from the terrible dilemma of shopping excess.

Brothers & Sisters, I am addicted to the terrible devil called - DISCOUNT, and it's brother from beyond, BARGAINS. Can I hear an Amen!

It's not a pretty problem. (Best appreciated with ironic small violin soundtrack.)

First 1 supermarket offers an an attractive discount, so you go with them. Then the other tempts you away… I (sob) have been tempted many times this year. The shame, the shame.

I would love to stock up on these at $1, but I've already got so many SIM packs - people now give me them in return for my freely given advice ;-) I just can't say no!
Yes, I am addicted to SIM.

I've never paid more than $10 for these SIMs - stocking up when cheap. So the saving in this deal is far less than $29. I've still got 6 $1 Telstra $30 packs from Woolies at Christmas.

Then Woolies & Coles have sent me so many discounts (20%+) each week for the last 4 months. I can hardly buy any more, as the cupboard & freezer doors barely close. And as for toilet paper… I have too many from the Woolies deal!
I can't eat out as there is too much to eat at home. Not salmon again!
A sure sign of near terminal First-World disease. Such suffering.

I've received 2 offers of instant $10 off $30 shop in last few days from Woolies.
And I need to spend $50+ to use $50 free credit from Coles for 4 x $60 shops…
and Woolies mistakenly gave me $100RRP of Tasmanian smoked salmon with an order!

Why am I so cursed, you ask?
It's that demon DISCOUNT. And where does it reside - in that abomination called OzBargain!

So spending $30 at Coles to save save $9+ on a SIM I don't need soon, is not as good as $10 in the pocket now, right? (Yes, the 2017 expiry is very tempting. But it may be cut with near expiry stock!)

Maybe 1 more purchase at Coles to use up the $50. It wouldn't do any harm. I've only bought 1 SIM in this deal, said while the body trembled with withdrawals.

Honest, I'm struggling with this unusual dilemma. There must be other OzBargainers out there who know my suffering. I know your thoughts are with me in this troubling time ;-)

Donate now so an OzBargainer can be saved from the terrible problem of excess!
A donation of just $1000 will take this sufferer on a discount flight, to a sunny beach somewhere far from the clutches of Coles & Woolworths.
With regular injections of $10,000 he may never be tempted by DISCOUNT again. Only you can help.

Oh lorry, lordy, thank you for your generous donations.
The phone lines will be open all night.
      PayPal is now accepted, Amen.

Thank you to goGtFct for your wonderificious offering of $1 Telstra CreditMe2u. That will bring one of my zombie SIMs back to life.
Is there anything better than seeing a SIM that is saved.
      Send your donation now.

      • Minus $10 CM2U?

        • Now, you just want to zombify my SIMs. Shame on you. You must be under the power of the evil OzBargain! Where my book of curses?

        • @brucefromaustralia: I have 25c free for you to use on my cm2u freedom Sim 😋

        • +1

          @Food:
Food, you is a recalcitrant SIMer.

You know you can't be offering no 25c CreditMe2u, when there is a 25c fee that the glorificious company that is Telstra has set down in the book of "Our Customer Terms". And we all know the minimum CreditMe2u that book allows is $1. So it is written. Do I hear an Amen, Brothers & Sisters!

Pray for this SIMer who has lost his way from the Telstra book of "Our Customer Terms".

  • Staff at our Coles don't even know about the deal. What I do know is that you must go to the service desk at get your bill sent there so you can pay for it all at once. You can not show your receipt after paying at the checkout.

    • +1

      Yes.
Best to go to the counter fist. Make sure they have the Telstra $30 packs. Get the voucher thingy.. Get your groceries and exchange the voucher for the real SIM pack at the check out before you pay.

      • +3

In my experience, the service counter staff aren't that much into fisting. And I've been to a lot of Coles counters ;-)

  • -1

A bit annoying that i spent $60 on groceries and got a Telstra SIM card, together with my Flybuys offer of "spending $60 and get $20" instant discount i was expecting $49 discount. Somehow i only got one discount of $42.39 (no way telling how much from the Flybuys and how much from Telstra SIM). The store staff did not know what happened. Talked to Flybuys just now and was advised it was the store's problem as Flybuys $20 discount was applied. Not sure i can go back to the store and convince the manager that it was their problem.

Am i the only one with such issue?

  • I would like to use this credit ($30) in Google Play store, but I couldn't find which pack should be activated to use the credit in the wiki page. I am suspecting "longlife" should work, any advice on that?

    • They should all work, but if it's only for the Google Play store then longlife is the best option, because of the 6 month expiry. If you want to use the SIM for some calls/SMS/data, plus use it for Google Play, then you get into some of the more complicated arrangements on the wiki …. but if it's only ever for Google Play then just use longlife.

      • Thanks nickj for the info. Otherwise, it seems activating longlife and then converting it to simplicity would be the best option to use the credit for some calls as well.

  • -1

Does it work if you purchase other gift cards like DS or XBOX?

  • Is it limited to one for per day?

  • +1

Got one but man, the hassle. They made me fill up a Federal Government Form regarding prepaids (applies to $30 SIMs). No one knows about the $1 offer so I asked to scan all the groceries and voila!, -$29 off the total bill. But to have my details given, I don't think it's worth the hassle. And of course, I cannot flip/pass on the SIM to someone else because it is under my name.

    • Thats strange, I got two over the weekend and they just put it in my bag, no form filling required.

Guys, when you do the cm2u, say you have a main mobile with long expiry(activated on longlife moved to simplicity), does that $10x3 cm2u go under the main mobiles expiry or do the cm2u have a separate expiry- I'm reading around the net that cm2u credit has a 15day expiry?

      • THe cm2u just counts on your existing expiry* so say your creds expire 15th Sept they'll be valid till then.
*cm2u ONLY extends the expiry if the credit is a week or so from expiring.

        P.S You can do a max of $10 cm2u a day, and each cm2u costs 25c so it'll be 10+10+9 cm2u'ed

        • +1

Credit is extended to a maximum of 14 days on the SIM it is sent to. So if you have 15 days to expiry on the SIM the credit was sent to, only the credit value is added. If it's the last day of expiry, you add the credit transferred, and the expiry extends 13 days. As food said - the account the credit is transferred from is charged 25c per CreditMe2u.

All in the Telstra Starter Pack Wiki.

        • +1

@brucefromaustralia: I have a very old sim i transfer credit to it receives 14 days expiry each time i add credit (i can transfer $24 from one $30 sim card in one day and receive 48wks expiry). Present expiry date is end 2017.

        • @coin saver:
Great! Should change your name to 'SIM saver' ;-)

    • +1

They shouldn't have done that, the laws have changed and you now provide the ID on telco sign up!
And of course you can pass the sim on, 100% sure.

      • +1

        thx guys.

    • +1

They did it to mess with you - ID is no longer required to buy sims as they "check" your ID online when you register it. I've gotten 6 in the last week and didn't show ID once…

  • +5

coles Tombul doesn't have it. They insisted to give me the $2 SIM only. Dunno if they hide the 30 ones. The other coles (ex Bilo) is dodgy. I seen a pile of them on the table but when i asked them to get one for me they tried to sell me the nano one and the ipad 3Gb one. I pointed to the pile (pink cards) but she said "I am told not to sell those. They are expired". I insisted to see the expiry dates…. they are april 2017! Then I asked her to give one for me but she asked me to come back to the counter ONLY after i finished shopping. Once done my shopping I walked to the counter but was stopped by a staff and she asked me to check out to another counter (even though i clearly said I wanted to get the Telstra prepaid Starter KIT). On the check out I asked again the Prepaid SIM starter KIT. She eventualy said "i thought u wanted to buy a recharge card". I decided to walk away from the shop, left my groceries (pile up of half price toilet papers…)

Felt like I was a robber

  • been to at least 4 coles and cant find any with stock :-( I just need 2.. anyone can spare ?

  • My Local Coles in Blackwood SA had a stack under the counter. Had to ask for them and they dont show up until the final stage of checkout then it shows the $29 Credit

  • Excellent deal! Will go to check it today hopefully there is still some left in store

  • Is this the SIM that comes with three months of Presto on activation?

  • There are about 3 different Telstra $30 starter packs. Generic full size and micro sim pack, Tablet pack (nano, micro and standard) and an iPad/ iPhone pack. If they are out of stock of one, just get one of the others. Hopefully none of you shop at my Coles! If you're worried it won't fit your device for activation just wait until they have stock and exchange it. I think they say you have 30 days to exchange. Hopefully they'll allow straight exchanges - without charging the extra $30. BTW I added 2 to my bill, but the system only applied the promotion to 1 of them, so I just got them to reverse the other.

    • +2

BTW - The advert says the promotion ends 26 May - but the manager at my Coles says it ends today. He must be mistaken as I presume they need to comply with the ad.

      • +1

The trouble the managers - they don't know this offer was not a catalog deal. So, to them deals finish when catalog finishes. So manager was wrong.

    • I added 2 to my bill, but the system only applied the promotion to 1 of them, so I just got them to reverse the other.

I did the same and had to do the same.

  • As I commented would happen, Coles are restocking.

My Brisbane store just restocked. Past experience has been when 1 store receives stock, a lot in the area do. Stores often restock the day before the next sale period - ie today!

One staff member ran up to tell me the good news as I entered the store ;-)
(I found out she uses OzBargain.)

This is only SIM #2 - I'm cutting back.

Staff this time gave me the instructions & gave me the SIM before I shopped. On Thursday I trained them.

    Oh happy days :-)

    • Of all times I step foot into store to redeem my raincheck and I'm busted by Bruce!

Needless to say staff weren't overly happy with giving me 2 sim cards…. But gave me the second regardless.

Come home to find the WiFi device had an extra starter pack as a bonus $2 pack unfortunately (one was already installed in the device - which I imagine is another 3gb)

      • +5

I could see what he was thinking …
Of all the SIM joints, in all the towns, in all the world, he walks into mine.

I watched as he skillful extracted a SIM for a raincheck from the broad. So this was his racket. There was no denying he had class, but was his credit good?

I approached & mentioned my shady affiliation with that underground organisation, OzBargain. He tried to deny it, but how could he. I had caught him out.

I asked what he was doing in Coles.
His reply threw me for a moment, "Who is Coles?"
I retorted, Mamoiselle, you are in Coles! And Coles is…
        "Who is he?"
He was acting all coy and innocent, like a dame, which was strange for a guy.
Well, Coles is the kind of man that… well, if I were a woman, and I were not around, I should be in love with Coles.

He left in a strangely confused state. I decided not to follow.

There would be other Coles. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, …

azazal, Here's looking at you, kid.

  • Just picked up one at Coles Bentley (WA). Staff knew about offer and they had a pile of them there, thanks OP.

  • Coles Merrylands and Fairfield doesn't have any.
They have a $30 multifit pack, but it was scanned for $30.

The deal may have expired, or it is the wrong pack?

    • All these Telstra $30 SIM packs are valid for deal & scan at $30.

The reduction only happens after you scan $30+ & scan the pack at $30, then purchase. The payment reduces the price to $1.

If you did that & it charged full price - that's news!

      All been discussed before.
      No need to scare unnecessarily

      • I had more than $30 already scan. After purchasing the SIM pack, it wasn't reduced.

        • after 'scanning' or after 'purchase'

then purchase. The payment reduces the price to $1.

Staring at the total is not far enough through the purchase.
You have to choose the payment method apparently.

        • @roughana: Really? When I got the first SIM, it was scanned, then became $1 before I selected the payment method. Today, it was scanned and no discount showed. So I ask the lady to cancel it. It was then crossed off the list.

        • @congngo:

          This is my source:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/194025?page=1#comment-2749…

I haven't found one to be able to try buying one for myself yet.

        • @roughana: Maybe he is right. I don't know. Might try again tomorrow.

        • +1

But it seems you maybe right.
          Discussion with manager

To test, pay for total purchase including SIM.

If it was full price, you pop over to service counter with receipt for refund on SIM / discussion of offer end date.

          Simple, But of course disappointing.

        • @brucefromaustralia: The photo of the advert says offer valid till 26 May. Surely they are obliged to honour that. (Edit - correcting date to 26 May).

        • @belbo:
It also stated "While stocks last.". If it is new stock, they will say the deal has ended.

My local stores restocked yesterday after running out. So I bought at $1 last night - as I advised.

        • @brucefromaustralia: Aha. Couldn't see that part from the photo. I'd say if they have stock of the $30 vouchers then they have stock - regardless if new or old. Creates a lot of scope for dodgy offers by any seller otherwise. Oh - the offer only applied to that 1 particular item we put a little blue sticker on - out of the 10,000 identical ones we have in stock.

        • @belbo:
Some stores sale specials are usually only for store stock. These were much more limited deal.

Try Aldi Special Buys™ for frustrating regular limited stock deals.

No raincheck (ok 1 exception) were available like normal sale items.

Coles restocks at end of sale week. I've often found fresh stock on Tuesday night's (eg past $9 Vodafone USB modem with 3GB deals). Always a good time to buy.

Every OzBargainer should be aware of it. There are complaints people missed out, but I keep suggesting how to get stock without the hassles. But it's often hard to find sale stickers from current sale then.

        • I think the discount is only on the $30 starter kit that is pink on the top and purple on the bottom.
          The back is all purple.

The pink only starter kit doens't work.

        • +2

          @congngo:
Reports of discount on different packs.

        • @congngo:
Wait for others to report in. If it is over, we will hear.
          Thanks for your report ;-)

        • @congngo:

The pink only starter kit doens't work.

I have a pink, and a pink/purple and both worked ok on separate purchases.

        • @Frig: OK thanks. Will try it out later.

        • @brucefromaustralia: i have the Pink only Multi Fit Sim Starter pack from today that scanned at the lower price.
still keeps me on edge when i see the full price on top of my shopping, like it's not going to scan for cheaper but it did today.

        • @TheGunslinger:
          I know the feeling ;-)

As one of those who bought early in the deal, I got the operator to save the $30shop + $30SIM transaction. I got the service counter to check it out.

Of course then no Coles staff knew about Telstra's promotion. I spent time explaining the deal, showing her the deal's photo - but she just squealed "It worked, that's a great deal!" when she entered the payment screen. So I learnt that the loyalty discount was applied as a payment.

Posting that on Whirlpool forum, I was met with scepticism - it had not worked for some, who had grumpily left before the payment screen. Same with some here. They thought it didn't work, Coles were @##!@… - it couldn't be their mistake!!

So good to read its still an active deal. But I can't buy any more groceries & have a drawer full of sims :-( I'm still getting through cheap one's bought in 2012!

        • +2

          @Frig:

I have a pink, and a pink/purple and both worked ok

I think those details are a little too personal to share here ;-)

  • remember telstra charges $1.50 for checking voice mail every min :(

    • Theres a way to get around it!!

      • ways? please share to care

        • Check the Telstra wiki on here

        • Even though I wrote most of it, that's where I go to find out.
(Thats why I did it - so many people asked or answered so many questions in deals - that were asked all over again.)
There are also links to other sites.

    • The link to those unanswered call options is at the end of the Telstra Starter Pack Wiki.

      I just turn off voicemail.

    • This doesn't come out of the cap?

      • it does, but comes out of the $30 credit that can be used for google play credit

  • once i bought this, can i select a prepaid plan that has very long expire period? just want a stand by sim card thats all. something like 365days credit expiry?

    • Pick Long Life plan.

      • thanks. had a look, we need to recharge $70:(

        • You read OzBargain's wiki on Telsta Starter Packs, which covers this? I've posted the link so many times people will be getting tired of it.

        • @brucefromaustralia: i checked telstra website, to be able to get 12 months expiry date you will need to recharge minimum $70.

        • +1

          @erwinsie:
As per Wiki, can get 6 months on Longlife with this SIM, then change once that is set up to Simplicity Plan for much cheaper calls etc including international, and retain the 6 months access. So 2 packs give a year for $2, as I wrote in wiki.

  • +2

Still worked for me this morning 0830hrs 20/05/15 automatic discount - went through the self serve checkout after asking for a starter pack at the service desk.

    • +2

      Panic averted ;-)

  • Yeah works fine - picked up two today. Just from the register, asked the lady for two, and to put it through as two separate transactions when it reached $30. No dramas. They even have a sign up advertising this deal at each register now.

  • Has anyone bought an Optus (or Voda, Boost, Virgin etc) $30 recharge voucher and bought one of these and got it for $1?

    • Staff at my local Coles were refusing the deal on recharges or for any gift card purchases. The staff member said it was 'unfair'.

She had approached me for my opinion about the offer, as I posted above. I was just buying groceries, so it didn't affect me.

But I don't remember reading about that 'unfair' clause in the t&c ;-)

      • any gift card purchases

If it was a Skype gift card or anything outside the Wesfarmers group they would have to honour it.

        recharges

having re-read the T&C's it doesn't state you can't buy a re-charge so therefore you can. If they didn't process it that would be false advertising.

        Hmmmm - Thanks Bruce.

    • +1

I bought two $40 telstra recharges, two $30 telstra recharges, and for each recharge, got a telstra sim starter pack for $1. This was on the first or second day of the offer, and I see no reason why it wouldn't be accepted. After all, the "discount" is processed automatically when the sim starter pack is scanned through and you go to payment method. Its not like the staff have to decided whether or not to give you the discount, its out of their hands.

      • Some staff still refuse to do it even if the computer allows it.

A way i've used is to ask for 2 half price voda $30 starters, let them scan it, and then ask for a telstra $30 starter. It comes up at $60 until they press payment method. Have your pay wave ready to go, and the transaction is complete before they even notice the mark down.

    • I have successfully bought an Optus $30 recharge and then added the Telstra pack for a total of $31.

      Thankyou Telstra and Coles!

  • Coles at Neutral Bay had stock again tonight. Finally! I saw at least 3 there.

  • how to convert telstra credit (if i buy this) into google play credit?
can i just do it without putting the simcard into my mobile? im with other provider and not interested to try telstra

    • +1

I believe it can only be done by activating in an android device and then using a payment from phone option in Google Play. I would be happy to hear otherwise.
