    this is perfect timing.

    just got a flybuys offer
instant $20 off for $100 spent

    • +1

the saving is bigger if you spend 3x$30(different stores?).$90 of groceries including 3 sim cards…

      • Limit 1 per customer

        • +15

Thank God we have 6 Coles customers at home and thank God we are not as famous as you JV so different stores will not know who we are :)

        • +1

          @GregFiona:

so different stores will not know who we are :)

so you wear a different disguise to each store ?

        • +2

Woolies does have $30 pre-paid SIMs for $15 this week though.

          No limits there.

Other than being treated as a criminal by staff and the er … powers that be that have just passed legislation to allow more watching of anyone deemed suspicious. I can only assume trying to have a lot of SIM cards will make you suspicious to the intelligence agencies. Which will then examine your *** pics etc.

Before you say as if: already happened in the USA and they have a tougher time of it with the pesky bill of rights and all that. Can only imagine what AU and UK spooks get up to.

        • @GregFiona:
Do different stores coordinate this level of info now?

        • @Diji1: In the last 3-4 years I have activated about 15-18 Telstra starter kits for myself and family so I am already suspicious I have nothing more to worry about :D

        • @GregFiona: at least you have a nice *** to take pics of

        • @shmahoo: i don't have any pics of my *** on my computers, iphone or ipad. Should I be worried?

        • +1

@GregFiona: It's OK - they're all "safely" saved in the cloud, for your convenience

    • Just curious, what does your username stand for?

  • +1

So only one per offer time?
    Valid in all states?
    Thanks OP!

    • +1

Saw it in the VIC Mx newspaper. Not sure if all states.

      • +1

I confirm it's on in NSW. I saw it on NSW Mx today.

    • +2

      Got one in Townsville, Queensland.
      TQ!

    • Just bought one in tassy, think the only one…

  • +1

    Awesome deal.

    • +3

Still haven't used my 6 $1 Telstra $30 Starter Packs from that deal.

  • +1

Can the SIM cards be used interchangeably? ie can the data SIM still be activated as a voice SIM and vice versa?

Strange the offer is not in the current catalogue. That will confuse some staff.

  • Can I use the $30 for Google Play credit?

    • +3

      yeah

      • +3

        Thanks that's amazing.

        • +4

          Really?
How do you get the google play credit?

          Nvm i found a link:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/telstra_pre-paid_starter_p…

        • @Billy Bob Bargain: thx, went through the whole thing. Is there a way to get iTunes credit instead of google play credit?

        • +3

          @hashtagbargain:

No, Apple users unfortunately can't use the credit for iTunes. However you could use the credit to buy music, tv eps and movies on your Android phone and then play them on your iPad/iphone with Google play movies and tv app.

Really because I get virtually free apps and games this way, it's another reason to avoid iPhone.

You can also buy windows phone apps and games with Telstra credit.

        • @Ronnnie: Windows phone apps and games too?! That's awesome too. Didn't know that.

        • @illumination: Hi, I am on Vodafone can I still use this credit to buy apps and games on google play? Or what can be done to use this? Couldn't find any information on the wiki page.Thanks.

        • @roughana: thanks. So I remove my Vodafone sim, put in Telstra sim activate as normal sim card and then use it as google play credit right?

Should I activate as a normal sim card? freedom plan?? Thanks

      • Is the credit limited to just google play or can use it for other premium services like google play?

The way i see it being charged by phone credit is all the same for all of them if they offer billing via phone.

  • Can anyone confirm this works in WA?

    • +4

I rang my local store in Melbourne and they didn't know about the promotion and don't know if they have stock either. Useless.

      • +6

My local Coles reguarly doesn't have items that are on special including SIM cards. Three locations all explained that they didn't get delivered and that they cannot control when it's delivered in any case because Telstra controls that. Coles reguarly does this.

I mean seriously the clowns expect us to believe they have "nation-wide pricing" with behavior like this on a regular basis.

        • Do you want a raincheck voucher for stock failed to be allocated by Telstra, or for it to deliver to those outlets.

Wouldn't you direct rage to the source of problem?

        • +3

          @daver:

I've tried that. Their raincheck policy specifically excludes sims and mobiles :(

        • @effgee: I believe this will apply to policy -every where-.

Telstra must carry on allocating stock to the cost it set -for us- to have the discounts obtainable. Coles does not figure in this~

          Allocate sufficient stock Telstra.

        • @effgee:

I managed to get a raincheck today :-)

        • @azazal:
Always depends on the inclination / lack of knowledge of staff to ignore Coles raincheck policy on a "while stocks last" sale.

It's against the t&c of this deal.

          Rarely given. You were lucky.

But, raincheck does not need to be honoured as it was mistakenly issued. But it will likely be honoured.

A few handy questions if others want to try ;-)
Had you spent your $30 first?
Does the raincheck just show a $1 price for the $30 pack?
          Which store?
Staff member name? (on raincheck, issue may be dependent on that 1 person, not others at same store!)

If only Coles accepted copies of your raincheck…

        • +3

          @brucefromaustralia:

I picked up the voucher on way into store. Went through the checkout next to service desk with $32 worth of product.

They then went looking for starter packs and were unsuccessful in doing so. Stated they had $2 starter packs only. Asked questions as to whether they were going to give me a $30 recharge otherwise, usual conversation from them stated it was a 3rd party promotion and they don't have control over stock… Although I may be able to go to another store (in which case I would be paying $30).

The sale was suspended and the manager came over, he was unsure of the promotion initially but rang through elsewhere and found they sold out of stock the day before.. Then told me they had ordered new stock (so much for previous comment). I showed him the screenshot, he asked me how many I was after and he happily filled out a raincheck.

He started that the price can be over ridden.

I then offered to pay for the groceries (they forgot)

          Raincheck states - Michael Morris

          Coles Cannon Hill QLD

Will wait and see how things go when I go back to collect in a few days

        • @azazal:
Ah, I'm just down Creek Rd a few km at Carlindale …

Have found that Coles good at restocking during sales & more flexible on multiple sales where limit states 1 per customer.

But it depends on Telstra supplies to delivery centre.
Staff often let me see their order screens - handy to know delivery estimate, stock levels at local stores & DC. Of course the information is often wrong, but I know they aren't just making it up.

          Thanks.
Hope that helps someone, because I had too many groceries & SIMs before this deal started.

        • @brucefromaustralia: is it available in QLD? I have been to 2 stores and they both never heard of the deal (even yesterday, Saturday) and they never honoured it…

          :(

        • @Son ofa Zombie:
Yes. As I've commented before, don't confuse staff by asking, just buy the $30 Starter Pack with your $30+ shopping. At payment, a loyalty discount of $29 is applied automatically. But check there is stock first.

Most staff know nothing about this deal.

        • +1

@brucefromaustralia: thanks Bruce. I now understand the deal after reading through this post. Thanks also for ur many comments in this post.

        • +4

          @Son ofa Zombie:
          But wait, there's more…
Try (my partly updated) guide to Telsta Starter Packs :-)

    • Yes.. The is an advs in the paper today.

      • Yes, can confirm that too. Staff did not know anything about it, but the price came down automatically.

    • Yep, picked up one today at Guildford (WA). Most staff were unaware of deal but discount came off at checkout. Picked up sim pack at front desk and paid at checkout with my other goods. April 2017 Expiry!

  • Oh god. That is awesome. I just spent $30 there yesterday though :(

    • +2

Go back and stock up on toilet paper :)

  • Does Telstra have any plan similar to My Prepaid Daily (Optus)? A plan with a 6 month expiry that only costs when you use it but is unlimited for phone and sms when you do.

  • +4

Can you buy the Vodafone $14 USB Dongle deal and $16 of groceries, to get this deal?

    • Don't see why not, good suggestion :)

    • +6

      2 x $14 dongles & $2 lollies

  • this is awesome value deal. thanks OP

  • +1

Might be a smart arse and buy $30 worth of Optus credit then sell the sim

    • +2

I'll give you $2 for it. We both win.

      • +1

        Damn that's some serious margin, 100% profit…

        • +1

the underpants gnomes would be proud of this scheme!

  • Can I use this credit on my pre-existing prepay telstra account?

    • +1

No, not as credit on your existing number.
You have to activate with Telstra rep and port the number.
      You will lose usage history.

    • Not exactly, but you can CreditMe2U it to yourself max $29 total ($0.25 x3 fee). Use the prepaid freedom anytime offer so you don't accidentally spend any of the $30 on downloads (phones these days :P)

      • -1

The My Pre-Paid App will not be available after 30th June 2015. Use the Telstra 24x7 App or visit m.telstra.com on your device. See http://tel.st/d5l6

The 24x7 app doesn't have the creditme2u option.
So I don't know how people (including me) will use that option.

Any one knows of any other method.

        • +2

          use the (star)100* menu

        • +3

          Dial #100# then choose option
          1-Recharge then
          6-CreditMe2U

        • -2

          @bonz:
Thanks mate forgot that option completely.

Just tried #100# and checked looks like credit me 2 u
          Has been removed.

          So my above statement stands.

Btw who begged me for the post. Lol

        • +1

@SlipKnot: It's there under a subsection, look around.

          Or just use m.telstra.com.

        • +1

          @SlipKnot:
The #100# menu options were changed about 2 weeks ago.

          bonz's directions are correct.
          #100#
          1-Recharge then
          6-CreditMe2U

Used it to help an OzBargainer with credit problem 2 nights back.

        • @brucefromaustralia:

Yes, (bowing) you are correct sir.
Just have to select option 1 first. :)
          Cheers

        • +1

          @SlipKnot:
I couldn't find it & contacted Telstra. I have used it many times & it then disappeared from main menu options. Now under Recharge options.

  • +1

Just bought $30 worth yesterday. Oh well.
Have to check the Mygroceries post and see what the current specials are.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Confirmed working at Coles Sunnybank (QLD). Expiry March 2017

    • Thanks. Just noticed your handle seems to be a guitar brand, correct?

    • +1

Did you just take your docket up to the service counter? Or tell them during check-out?

      • +1

I went to the service counter and showed them the pic. The lady tried it with a random item >$30 and then scanned the Telstra SIM and it reduced to $1. I then went to buy my Weetbix and some other groceries to make $30 and got my SIM for $1.

        • so did you ask for a sim card at the manned checkouts? or did you just pick one off the shelf?

        • +1

          @cowiie:
As far as I'm aware, they don't keep the $30 starter SIMs on the shelf. I got mine from the service counter.

  • Worth it, even just for the $11 telstra event tickets! ;)

    • +1

yeah but I would rather get them for $10 on ebay

  • +2

Sweet. About to go overseas, will me2u all the credit across to myself and that can pay for a nice big intl roaming data pack

  • already started? or need to wait?

  • Does the starter kit include any data?

    • +1

Well its a $30 SIM kit and you can activate it with a variety of Telstra PrePaid offers. You choose the best one to suit you during the activation process.
One popular deal is Freedom which currently includes 1.3GB of data and calls for a month or you could activate is a Tablet deal and get 2GB of data.
      Here: https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/off…

      • +5

Tablets just changed to 3GB with $30 credit as well. Credit can't be transferred, but reportedly can be used for Google Play.

Freedom data offer valid to end of June.

  • +1

Ends 26th May, so get busy!

  • +1

Do you need a flybuy card for this deal? If not it is easy to get around the 1 per customer limit. Just split your purchase in $30 lots.

  • +2

Do you have to purchase something first and get a docket voucher or will it scan as $1 as long as you spend more than $30?

    • +4

We need to wait for someone to try.
Like so many of these deals, the conditions are a little unclear and different staff will give differing "definite" answers. Some will be able to bring a $30 plus voucher to the service desk and buy the SIM packs for $1 , other staff members will insist it all has to be purchased at the same time. The staff and management seem to work it out as the week progresses.
I cant see how they can possibly keep track of the "one per customer" rule without linking it to Flybuys, but there is no mention of it as a requirement

    • Yeh I'm curious about this as well. Working in retail I could only assume one your total hits $30 the promo item would come down to $1. But it would have to be scanned after your hit $30.
But I thought the sim cards were only sold at the service desk counter not at the checkouts (not to sure on this)
I think I'll ring the store before I go or ask the service desk before I start my shop to stop any confusion at checkout.

      • +2

Just bought one from Roseland store. You have to spend $30 on other products and then when you scan this sim, it will automatically reduce to $1.

Btw my sim has expiry of 16 June next to serial number.

        • +1

Did they have some sim cards at each registers or do they get them from the service desk?

        • +2

@bargainbot12: They are only available at customer service desk. The discount will appear as loyalty discount on the receipt.
