Telstra - Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 4G $10/Month with $5/Month Data Share SIM Plan for 24 Months

740

This is for current or new Telstra customers only

I got this deal today from Telstra. I know this may not be for everyone. $15/month over 2 years =$360 and you get the sim to share data so no extra data purchases required. I was told in 12 months I could also recontract to a new tablet plan for $149 which is nice to know - This involves handing in the old tablet in good condition.

Get a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.5 for just $10/mth (was $14/mth) when you add a $5/mth Data Share SIM Plan to your current Mobile Accelerate Plan, Every Day Connect Plan or Go Mobile Plan and stay connected for 24 months. Min cost: $360 for Data Share SIM and tablet."

To get the most out of your data while enjoying a bigger screen at home or away, why not share your data between your mobile with a tablet? For a limited time, you can get a new Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 for just $10/mth when you add a $5/mth Data Share SIM Plan to your current mobile plan and stay connected for 24 months (min cost $360). That’s a nice deal considering the recommended retail price for a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 alone is $720.

    • What reason did they give you?

      • Simple. It's not an eligible plan.

    • The $39 Friends of Telstra/Staff cap is not an eligible plan. Mobile Accelerate Plan, Every Day Connect Plan or Go Mobile Plan are the eligible plans. They are data share capable. The friends of Telstra/Staff cap is not data share capable.

  • This can only mean one thing only:

The imminent arrival of Samsung galaxy tab S 2 in june and these are just clearance offer.

    • +1

Probably, though if you are buying it for movies, I think Tab S would still be a decent choice because of the screen ratio change (16:10 to 4:3).

  • Weird that people are getting told different things. I signed up through live chat. Added to my existing contract (which I am 12 months in to). If i was to cancel my data share sim when the mobile contract ends in 12 months (say, by moving to prepaid) I'd be paying approx $180.

    • If you cancel the Data share sim 12 months in, you will lose the device discount and have to pay the device RRP of $720 divided by the contract length times the remaining months left on the device payment contract, being 12. So you would pay $720 / 24 x 12 = ETC of $360.

The site clearly states "Get a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.5 for just $10/mth when you add a $5/mth Data Share SIM Plan to your current Mobile Accelerate Plan, Every Day Connect Plan or Go Mobile Plan and stay connected for 24 months. Minimum cost: $360"

      • So i guess just keep the data share sim going for the tablet and go to prepaid on your mobile?

        • But the tablet shared sim is tied to the eligible plan sim. That means going to prepaid will also terminate your tablet's data shared sim?
Edit: I got what you meant now but you cannot make calls with the data shared sim on the tablet that is not a phone.

      • I was told otherwise on Live chat!

  • Although it's nowhere near as good value, and an inferior product, the first gen iPad Mini is available for $10 on the $5 Go Mobile Data Share SIM. Albeit it's retail price with Telstra, is $456, which can be most likely be found cheaper elsewhere.

  • Battery life any good on this? My galaxy note 8 battery is rubbish

    • I haven't had it long enough to say but i gaurentee you will get a lot more out of it rooting it and installing DS battery Saver.

    • Battery life is quite good for a large tablet, It's about 10% an hour so far from watching Netflix and a bit of surfing.

  • It seems it is only for Telstra mobile customer. I only have home phone and Internet account, am I eligible?

You need to have an eligible mobile service. I'm looking forward to the day when they allow your mobile to share data with your home internet.

    Big thanks OP.
Bought a chromecast recently and my iPad 2 is really showing its age lately.

Great way to experiment with Android at a relatively low cost.

  • Just signed up over 24x7 chat, she offered to waive my delivery fee without me asking. Great deal! I just purchased the 8.4" model for my wife, so this will go down perfect for me!

  • I just picked up a bronze one, anyone seen cheap official covers?

Walked into T Shop this morning and got one added to my business mobile plan. Thanks OP!

  • Anyone got the email saying their tab has shipped yet?

    • Nope.

      • Yep.. receiving tomorrow (ordered bronze)

  • Is there a limit of 1 tablet per eligible testra plan?

  • I'm considering getting this but also looking at the HP Plus 10 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/193307) for $145 or so. I feel like I'd use it enough to justify the extra expense but also that I haven't had a 10" tablet before so it's an expensive risk. Any thoughts?

Just got mine from the North Lakes store. My contract is due to expire this December and there was no problems adding the data share to my plan. Thanks again op.

    • What does it say on your invoice? Does it have full price $720 (incl GST) and then -$720 for MRO?

  • went to 3 Telstra store in Melbourne CBD today (Melb Central / Ikon / Swanston St) - no stock on the Titanium Bronze :(
gone online and order it instead… now the waiting game begins….

Received mine today (Bronze) - box was opened / tablet had no sticker on the screen seems to be return/2nd hand one.
Jumped onto online chat, was told to post it back and wait then they will resend me another.
    Dilemma central has started :-/

    • That's poor form from Telstra. Hope the next one is brand new.

I once ordered something from their ebay store. It arrived opened, with a faded box - looks like a store display unit. Maybe they instruct their stores to send them out, so there's no real QC.

I complained and they gave me a full refund and allowed me to keep the item. I was pretty happy. :)

        • Wow. Hope you get that lucky with the Tab :D

        • @snagseb: No such "luck". Mine arrived sealed. :( :)

        • @eug: how long did you wait?
          Mine still saying processing. :(

        • @eug:

Ah well. At least it's a new one. Enjoy.

        • @ctrlaltdel: I ordered it on Thursday and received it on Tuesday.

        • @eug: thanks. 3 business days.

    • bummer, was just about to ask has anyone received their tablets yet. hopefully they dun send me an opened box one.

      • +1

Yep I know right… funny that, do they think someone will receive this and accept this?!!

    • Received mine today, box was also opened. Wasn't too phased so I set it up - bloody thing doesn't charge! Definitely been sent a faulty model, if thats why it was open… tsktsk.
I'm in 24x7 chat now, lovely long wait.

  • Getting mine tomorrow as well hope it's not opened and they said only white available online anyone else been told the same???

    • was told they have some bronze color, hence i ordered online. white color = stores have stock (lots) :P

    • I ordered mine yesterday afternoon and they said that bronze was out of stock to me as well. Figure we can cover up the whiteness with a cover :)

  • just got an email stating that i'm getting mine tomorrow as well. hopefully mine does not comes opened.

  • received mine today…. along with my logitech folio case - $120 but well worth it, nice leather design with bluetooth keyboard built in.

    • You brought the case online? or it came with it?

  • Is anybody able to confirm that changing to the data share option means that everything else in regards to the plan stays the same? I'm curious as to whether signing up to this means I lose my $1000 talk/text bonus that I received when I re-contracted in March…

    • +1

yup, nothing changed beside your data is now shared between your mobile and tablet.

      • Thank you for this! Looking forward to mine arriving now :)

  • Mine arrived yesteday, picked up today. Box had not been opened. The white actually looks a little better than I thought - the back has a gold kind of 'sheen' when viewed under light.

  • mine just arrived, the box a bit crushed but it is sealed. open up, and charging now.
hmm… no documentation, well, i guess i have to google it.

  • Mine arrived today white look GOOD than what I thought with gold sides!!!

  • FYI for those considering selling:

I played around with the tablet for roughly a day and decided to sell it. (A forum post later; won't go into detail here. Short story the tablet was a cheap Android experiment)
It's a great piece of kit at a phenomenal price if you are an Android fan.

Threw it up on EBay Monday with a 450 opening bid and a 610 "buy it now" (average high end sold price)

    Currently sitting at $500…
