  • Weight and battery are a bit poo, still decent value.

  • Review on Whirlpool here
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2315824&#…

Looks good value for a local stock tablet, definitely worth considering now that Aussie dollar is weak making import options less attractive.

  • I'll be buying it because I want a good spare charger. I wonder if it's a misprint.

  • After HP touchpad demise, no more HP tablets for me.

I've got two touchpads, both running CM Android 4.2. They have been going strong for years now. Best $99 I ever spent.

      • Me too. Apparently there is a CM12.1 port floating around somewhere.

      • -1

Low screen res and 512 ram makes mine a paper weight.

        • Would you consider off loading it on the cheap? I found that I mainly use mine for basic stuff, but although I have to say the browser is becoming woefully inadequate for any ecommerce websites (to clarify I actually only use webOS)

        • @Jackson:
Sorry mate, I like to kepe it around for Android development.

        • @PainToad: fair enough, the next thing I had planned to do was put on CM but then I had the issue I refer to below. Was thinking about getting one on eBay but they are still over the hindered mark (or were when I checked) and TBH I am mostly attached to my apps and data that was on there so I should have a crack at fixing the charging issue first

      • I just had a problem with mine where it no longer charges. Manufacturing defect by the looks of things, but will need to open it up to give it a jump start apparently. Anyone got any experience with this?

Having to do everything on my playbook now but I miss the screen and some apps :-(

        • Mine doesn't charge with the original cable, or about 10 others I had laying around. But found one cable that charges it fine!

  • CM12 for this? Couldn't find anything online.

  • Any promises of Lollipop?

  • "Estimated Shipping date: 1 – 3 weeks" just thought I'd point it out. Great deal

Only 16GB RAM means not much left for apps and data. I know there is an external SD Card that can be used but not all apps make use of the external SD Card.

    • +1

16GB RAM??? EVEN MY LAPTOP DOESN'T HAVE THAT MUCH. MUST…RESIST…BUYING!!!!!!

  • How does this compare with the HP 10 PLus G2?

    • If it's anything like the HP 7 tablet I have got, it's rubbish.

  • +1

everything is good except the cpu, a quad a7 is slightly better than dual core a9, pushing FHD res is ….pushing it.

still decent price for rest of spec.

    • A31 is 4k supported. A33 is not.
so shouldn't be pushing at all?

      PowerVR SGX544 MP2 (dual core)

      • Apps probably would make the SoC shriek or something.
4K video playback support and being able to run apps and games at that resolution is a different story.

      • it could display it but running games etc is different as per above comment

even integrated intel graphics can output display up to 4k but can they run games half decent>?

        • Asus HD memo pad uses MTK8125 with single core SGX544, is doing ok. (slightly worse than tegra 3)
so double core SGX544 should be better than tegra 3

          Adreno 305 . SGX544MP2 . Adreno 320 .

  • Are they front facing speakers I see? This could be reason enough to buy on its own, half the tablets I have used have terrible sound and inadequate volume

    • review on the speaker is only acceptable than loud…… bare in mind

      • Yeah just read that, unfortunate. Easily the best thing about my playbook is the speakers, better than many small portable speakers around for 10-20 bucks

  • Is it an upgrade from a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?

    • Save for something better.

FHD on a 10.1'' screen is… would only recommend it to my enemies.

      • FHD is not that bad on 10.1 screen.
My surface pro has FHD, and to be honest, I wish they've chose smaller resolution, like HD, on it.

I'd rather have something with lower res, if I get something with high res as a result of shorter battery life and mediocre performance.

        • Oh oops… my bad.

I was meant to say HD, not FHD… HD on a 10.1'' screen sucks.

  • Poor CPU, poor battery, no HDMI, no GPS, no Compass… A 4 year old Acer A510 has same/better specs, apart from the OS. At this price? Maybe. Old tech should really be cheaper. The screen res is the only thing to get excited about (and it's nice), if that's your primary criterion then go for it.

Pretty sure it has GPS. It's listed in the specs under Sensors. Also, see user comments here.

  • This, or the Telcast x89? Chinese brand that seems like a bargain

    • +1

Teclast has better spec overall, but it's a gamble in a way.
You'd have a hard time talking to the rep and getting it fixed (this is if you can get it fixed), if it breaks.

  • What's up with no GPS?? Is this the norm???

    • It does have GPS, listed in the specs under sensors. Also user reviews online refer to it being accurate.

      • +1

oops i meant another tablet (teclast x89)

  • bought one. It matches all my needs for a tablet. 1080p screen for movies and 2GB RAM for performance (surfing webs and casual gaming). and the price!!! Cheers OP.

Hi with the code HPAF42 I just bought it for 148 AUD!

    • Thank you! I hesitated but with this code bought it :)

    • Nice find. My acer a510 still fine otherwise I will be buying this.

    • +3

      Thank you!
I also ran into this HP SlateBook 14-p001tu PC (Sweet Yellow) for $199, it also accepts the same 'hpstuedge15' code which brings it down to 169

      • I did that too, but forgot to use the 4% cashback. Has yours shipped yet or is it still processing?

      • my cash rewards still has not send me an email confirmation that I bought the laptop since 13th of May…..
how long would they take for confirmation? ebay normally took 2 days.

      • Your suggestion has turned in to a pretty popular deal of its own!

    • Thanks vasya.

Was on the fence whether to get this or not. But with your code jumped on it. Cheers

  • Anyone has theirs ship?

    • Yep. Ordered Sat 9th, delivered yesterday (Thu 14th). Pretty happy for the price.

  • Mine shipped on Wednesday and I missed delivery on Thursday causecause only found the delivery card last night in letter box. Will pick from post office Monday.

  • Ordered one, thanks OP. It is fine for the price especially in the destructive hands of the kids.

There's a bundle available at http://h20386.www2.hp.com/AustraliaStore/Bundle.mvc that includes a cover and screen protector for $179.30 - down to $152.41 with the code above. An extra $4 for a cover and screen protector isn't too shabby!

    • Holy crap! Such a shame would of loved this, the cover looks pretty good.

    • Damn. A week too late for me.

    • Finally bought one - hopefully cashback works, that's another 4% disc.

  • Any comments about the speaker and the volume that you get out of the tablet. Read in a few places that the volume is very low..

  • +1

Purchased one last week and I am happy with the performance, screen and sound volume. The unit i received is running at 1.2ghz not the stated 1ghz.
