Telstra - Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 4G $10/Month with $5/Month Data Share SIM Plan for 24 Months

740

This is for current or new Telstra customers only

I got this deal today from Telstra. I know this may not be for everyone. $15/month over 2 years =$360 and you get the sim to share data so no extra data purchases required. I was told in 12 months I could also recontract to a new tablet plan for $149 which is nice to know - This involves handing in the old tablet in good condition.

Get a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.5 for just $10/mth (was $14/mth) when you add a $5/mth Data Share SIM Plan to your current Mobile Accelerate Plan, Every Day Connect Plan or Go Mobile Plan and stay connected for 24 months. Min cost: $360 for Data Share SIM and tablet."

To get the most out of your data while enjoying a bigger screen at home or away, why not share your data between your mobile with a tablet? For a limited time, you can get a new Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 for just $10/mth when you add a $5/mth Data Share SIM Plan to your current mobile plan and stay connected for 24 months (min cost $360). That’s a nice deal considering the recommended retail price for a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 alone is $720.

You must be using Telstra at the moment.

    • Correct. Sorry ill add that to the description

  • Do tablets get locked like phones do?

    • +1

Telstra hasn't locked post paid phones in a long time; prepaid phones are locked iirc.

  • +1

My current plan with Telstra expires in about a year. What happens then?

    • Good point. I guess you could continue to pay the $15 a month until the 2 years is up and use a sim card from another Telco. Still works out pretty good price wise.

    • probably locked in for an extra year.

    • The data share sim will only be able to exist on your account as long as there is eligible mobile on the account, if you remove the mobile it will cause the data share sim to cancel and give you early termination fees. Roughly $30 x months remaining.

  • When you recontract to a new plan in a years' time, I assume it'll be at the full price, whatever that will be?

    • Do you mean to upgrade your tablet? Yes, you will pay $149 one off fee and whatever the new tablet plan is.

      • +1

That second tablet probably won't be a good deal then. ;)

  • +4

I guess I can sell the tablet and make some money over the $360 cost . Excellent bargain

  • Pity it's not available on the Friends of Telstra $39 Staff plan

    • Really? That's the plan I am on too.

    • Who is $39 staff ?

    • +1

Pity the Friends of Telstra $39 Staff plan isn't available to everyone

      • It has been, twice (maybe three times, my memory is bad) in 2-4 years.

        • How come i only saw once…

        • @Ahan: The most recent one bundled with iPhone5 excess stock (a year and a bit ago) was deleted as a deal at Telstra's request and moved to the forums.

        • @Lukian:
That was almost two years ago. I bought two from that deal. Both my wife and I are now on this plan thanks to that…

        • @Ahan: Pretty sure it was February 2014, that's not two years until next year :)

        • @Lukian:

Yeah you are probabaly right. I only know I am in the 2nd year of my contract..

  • How much data do you get?

    • +1

The sim that comes with this deal is an add-on to your existing Telstra mobile account. It shares the quota from that account.

    • none, it uses the data quota from another phone account you have (shared data quota)

  • +1

    Is this the 4G/LTE tablet?

    • Yes it is.

  • +1

Is this only eligible plans? I'm uncertain one could add a data-share SIM to legacy plans.

Edit: Yes it is, original post should state:

"Get a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.5 for just $10/mth (was $14/mth) when you add a $5/mth Data Share SIM Plan to your current Mobile Accelerate Plan, Every Day Connect Plan or Go Mobile Plan and stay connected for 24 months. Min cost: $360 for Data Share SIM and tablet."

    • Added to description. Thanks.

The actual retail price of this tablet is only $547 (officeworks) to $599.
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/samsung-gal…
But still a very good deal.

    • At that odd price, I'd guess officeworks are avoiding price match promises against Big W (who loves to end in 8s) or another retailer like JB HiFi.

    • +2

That's for the wifi version but this deal is for a 4g cellular which is actually more expensive.

    • +1

Officeworks doesn't sell the 4G version, but it usually costs something like $100 more.

  • So you gots to be a Telstra customer already?

    • +7

Congrats on reading the first line of the post! Some people miss that. :)

  • Could it be a misprint/mistake?

    • +1

No it's not. I got mine today.

      • is it Samsung LTE version or WiFi version?

        • LTE

    • Sure seems like it… Telstra giving a good deal? What??
But it's legit. I'm signing up at the moment with a rep who confirmed it.

  • Word of warning - There is a delivery fee of 9.95. And its by delivery only ( no pick up option)

    • +1

You can get it in store also. Just walk in :)

      • +1

Apparently the promo is not available in store. At least thats what the rep told me.

        • That's weird. I went in there today and said I want the $15/month Galaxy Tab S deal and there was no issue. Rep has their wires crossed I believe.

        • +1

          @snagseb:

I think ill try the store. The girl im chatting to right now appears to be in a hurry to go home.

        • @tarumaycry:
or hurrying to make a sale.

      • Can confirm, work in a store, I've sold at least 30 of them in the last month.

    • I asked for it to be waived and he said 'sure'. That was easy!

  • ahhh,,,,should also be for new customers,,,damn telstra

    • +1

It is available for new customers, you just need to have an eligible phone plan in order to get it. It works as a data share sim attached to a phone plan. If you get a new mobile plan you can get one.

  • +1

This is a great price for this tablet. Thanks for the heads up. For $15 a month I'll give one a go and sell if it's not what I need. Cheers OP.

  • Think you may have it the wrong way around. I got this last month and its a $10 data sim plus $5 device payment. Also if you order it on line you might be able to get some extra credit :)

    • Would they actually give extra credit on this deal in particular?

    • That's the old way of it, The data share sims used to be $10, so it was $5 more for the tablet, with the new mobile plans that started last Tuesday, they changed the cost of the data share sim to just $5, and made the tablet $10 extra.

  • Is this just for Telstra customers?

    • Yes

    • I think this was the 3rd time someone had asked this. (I was the 2nd). I wonder who will ask this as I read down…

      Answer is yes btw

    • Can you get it if you're not with Telstra?

      • not the $15 plan but you can get it on the $29 (S plan)

  • I copied and pasted from the Telstra website so nope :P

  • Does having a Telstra prepaid number qualify you as being telstra customer?

    • +1

No - the second paragraph in the deal description explains why.

  • +2

Can confirm that this deal is legit. It is also available for new connecting or porting customers when signing up to an eligible plan in store, not just existing. Sign up in store to avoid the delivery charge of $9.95. As others have mentioned the Tablets RRP is $720, and you only pay $360 over 24mths ($15/Month) Also the Data share sim adds 100mb to your shared data allowance. It's a bargain!

    • Thank you. I'll add that to the description.

    • What is the cheapest way to get an eligible plan?

      • +1

Sorry not sure. Telstra are very strict on contracts so there is probably no quick or cheap way.

      • Cheapest way would be to sign up for a BYO plan (smallest $35/Month) and then adding the $15 Data share sim with the Tab S 10.5, Total being $50/Month with $300 Calls Unlimited SMS and 600MB Shared data.

        • -5

600mb isn't enough for a mobile phone itself let alone to share with the tablet.

        • +6

@wtfnodeal: Thats the cheapest way as you asked, not necessarily the best value way.

        • isn't it cheaper to get $29 / month on the S plan for a new Telstra customer?
          https://www.telstra.com.au/tablets/tablets-on-a-plan/samsung…

        • @ctrlaltdel: Are you suggesting to get the $29/month plan that includes a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, and then also sign up for this deal for $15/month, getting a second Tab S?

        • +1

@twocsies: nope, what i meant was for non-telstra customer.

        • +1

@ctrlaltdel: I see what you mean. If someone wants the tablet, they can get it with the $29/month plan, which is cheaper because they don't need to buy anything else.

  • Nice price, but I'm on prepaid. I've picked up a Tab Pro 10.1 for $338 on sale a few months ago. 4G and OLED would be nice though

  • As I commented above, it seems easy enough to get out of the 9.95 shipping fee. I just asked for it to be waived.
Be careful however as I had a bonus 1GB on my data and I was told it won't be removed, but upon checking on 24/7 it's now no-longer showing. I am starting another chat session now.

  • do these tablets work with out a sim (I dont want it using my data, wifi is fine). Can I not install the share sim and the tablet will work fine or will it be like a mobile and not function until an active sim is installed?

    • +1

u can use it without a sim… hell you can even throw the sim away when you get it! you will get 100mb extra towards your phone plan regardless

      • thanks.

        • +1

          np

    • Can't you just tether the tablet, using Wifi, to your phone??

      (Like what this guy's done… instructions provided…?)

  • +1

I already have a Mobile Accelerate Data Share plan with an iPad air 2 for $37 extra… but seeing this for $15 extra a month for 24 months I jumped on it may as well have the best of both worlds iOS & android.. and delivery fee waived.
    nice find op!!!

  • Can you port in to a post-paid month-month plan, get this deal & then cancel and pay off the $360 minimum?

    • Nope. The Device payment is contracted for 24mths, and you only receive the discount if you stayconnected for 24mths (making it $15/Month). If you Disconnect you will be charged the full device RRP of $720.

      • i'm sure you don't.. i confirmed its $360 total on live chat before i ordered… if you connect a data share and even cancel that (without touching your main mobile plan). i don't think this has been set up like the plans where the cost of handsets are included only if you continue and not cancel.

I confirmed this only because i asked what happens if i upgrade my main mobile later down the path (before this plan comes to 24 months)

        • Your data share sim device payment contract runs separate to your main mobile contract, you can upgrade your mobile without affecting the Data share sim, so what they told you is correct.

Yes total cost is $360 ($15x24) IF you stayconnected for 24 months, if you cancel the data share sim early, you lose the device discount and ETC's will be the device RRP divided by how many months left on contract, this is how all DPC (Device payment contracts) work.

I have this same offer as Telstra staff and it states this in the Data share sim paperwork, feel free to check this for yourself once you receive it.

        • @JW3B:
I personally don't mind and won't be cancelling anytime before the 24 months. I'm quoting what the live chat person told me upon sale.

        • @JW3B: Can you tell me what happens if you finish up your mobile plan down the track and maybe port out?

        • @tds:

I think this answers your question from JW3B:
Yes total cost is $360 ($15x24) IF you stayconnected for 24 months, if you cancel the data share sim early, you lose the device discount and ETC's will be the device RRP divided by how many months left on contract, this is how all DPC (Device payment contracts) work.

          ie = you pay $720 / 24 x months remaining of contract.

    • You better off throw the sim into the bin and pretend you pay the tablet by 24 months instalments
edit: I see you might want to terminate the eligible plan earlier instead of locked for another 24 months.

  • I already have a Tab S 8.4 WIFI (got for $290 from memory) and love it, so thought I'll give the 10.5 a go. I've gone Ipad- Ipad- Note8- Note 10.1- Note Pro 12 -Tab S 8.4 (+Surface Pro 3) - Tab S 10.5. I'm getting bigger again.

    • -2

Size does matter ;) (sorry, I had to just say that)

      • Wielding something that big though causes fatigue.

        • +1

That's why you have to use two hands. Sometimes, you can even use tools* like this.

        • @AznMitch:

          Wowee!

  • Got my wife a new phone on Saturday and was offered this deal. Really really didn't need a tablet but the data splitting SIM and $5 for the tablet was too good to pass up. Now have more tablets than people in our house. Argh.

  • I just got off live chat and the person claimed they couldn't do it for me as "it's not available yet through their sales channel" and that I have to go in store to get this deal

    • I was the same buying almost everything off ozbargain even though I didn't really need them. doctor even said I might be going through a manic stage of bipolar because all the spending. I just said na its just ozbargains.

  • Wouldn't let me do it on the Telstra friends and family deal
