770

Telstra have released new 4GX data packs for prepaid customers which provide more value than previous deal offered.

In summary

  • 5GB with one year expiry = $50
  • 16GB with 2 year expiry = $140
  • Unused data can be rolled over as long as you recharge before expiry date

If you want something cheaper, refer to previous amaysim deal for 10GB with one year expiry (on optus 4G network) = $75

Enjoy

  • Wait wait, about about iPads, they are now cheaper than iPad sim 180 for 12 g plan!!
Before it was more expensive.. What is going on?

    • Competing with Optus apparently.

iWhat? Telstra have forgotten about them. No more sweetheart deals to lure in the iFollowers. It's now just tablets.

Telstra has changed its pre & post paid data offerings in last few days. If you are on an old plan, as long as you keep it active, you can get the old rates…

  • Definitely a deal Easternculture!

The new rates/plans are better then the previous ones Telstra provided that you could get if new customer.

Telstra 4G speeds are unreal for mobile, can download faster than my ADSL2+ landline, only shortfall is the download quota is limited.

Should sweeten the deals with the cellular models of cheap iPads in the other threads recently.

The new rates/plans are better then the previous ones Telstra provided that you could get if new customer.

You can't get the old ones anymore, unless you're already on then. These ones are the one and only normal price going forward…

      • Already on the old grandfathered plan/rates with $0.81 per MB, and just extending it every 14 days using "Credit Me 2 U" from my Telstra mobile "Freedom" plan.

Pity on the new CIS, and i quote from Whirlpool
"CreditMe2U is considered "Recharge Credit". The CIS on these new plans clearly state that "Recharge Credit" will be consumed at the rate of $2/MB once your bonus/included data has been consumed."

  • I hv an existing iPad pmbb that is long expiry due Jan 2016 and have $260 credit bal at 1.46c per mb

Should I switch to $140 for 2 years expiry?

can I still creditme2u from this prepaid mbb to my mobile prepaid?

    • +1

I wouldn't change. If you switch, you won't be able to Credit Me 2 U with cheap SIM card credit to extend your rate. Also if you change, you'll have to recharge before being able to get any data at a reasonable rate, given that on the new plans, the data is bonus data (your $$ isn't touched for the data).

If you fancy the new rates, just buy a new SIM and recharge $140.

If you recharge $30 on your old plan it will switch your rate to 0.9765c/MB (rather than 1.0c/MB for the new plans) and keep the Jan 2016 expiry and rollover existing balance.

      $260 @ 1.46c/MB = 17.5GB
      $290 @ 0.97c/MB = 29GB

      Effectively $30 for 11GB approx.

      Keeps me2u functionality

  • Dqmmiit just recharged for $180. No way to chnage this now? :(

    • +1

If you change offer now (Live Chat/phone) and then recharge, your $180 is rolled over to be added to your new recharge rate and expiry, except if the expiry of the recharge is lower it won't go backwards.

If your previous recharge was $180 / 1.46c/MB / 365 Days (Total 12GB) then you change to the new offer and recharge $10 / 1.00c/MB / 3 Days then you will effectively get $190 (minus any that's already used) / 1.00c Mb still with 365 Days (Total 19GB).

Effectively you got an extra 7GB for $10 if you did this.

Alternatively keep old plan and recharge $30 to get 0.97c/MB rate which is better than the new one

  • Can anyone who is on the new data packs see if there is an option to change plans to voice.

At the moment you can recharge on long life then transfer to simplicity and retain your expiry date…

I'd like to get 2 years expiry on the simplicity offer.

  • Can I activate a new sim and then $50 credit me to you to the new number and buy the annual pass with that $50?

This way I could use my $8 telstra starter sim packs I got from Harvey Norman a while back. They are all expiring on 12 June and I'm looking for ways to best utilise them.

    • -New Data passe will be recharge/ activated by their face value alone, no old buying/topup; maximised using Google Play purchases, before bonus 5-3gb

      Summarised, yesterday (activate them as 30 day-internet //Longlife-phone) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/194310#comment-2752614

      • Thanks I read that post and the wiki yesterday. but it doesn't say you can't credit me to you IN to the data pass. It only says you can't credit me to you OUT of the data pass.

Say I have 3 new sim cards. One activated as broadband data and the other two as phone. If I transfer all my phone credits ($10+$10+$9+$10+$10+$9=$58) to the mobile broadband sim, can I buy an annual data pass with $50 of it?

        • +1

just chatted with Telstra and they basically said no. You can use existing credits to buy roaming data packs.

      • I was wondering who posted that… oh me ;-)

        In very very small print…
*always double check any advice given on OzBargain before buying anything!

  • So with the $30 of credit for Google Play, can I use that for Google Play Music as well as Apps?
$10/month is a bit much for music but if it's just funny money….
