    Normal price is $249.-

Got one for $100.- on eBay just two days ago. Slower than anything i have ever used and would never buy it again

did you buy it on eBay 2 days ago? That's pretty quick delivery.

      • Delivery wasn't that great. Maybe because i picked it up.

    1GB Ram is really pathetic….

    • What do you want for an Android tablet at $149, 8GB or 16GB ram?. This is a tablet not a PC.

      • Umm 2GB? 8GB and 16GB doesn't even exist…

    • 1GB Ram is really pathetic….

Damned spoilt kids these days. Try doing a kernel re-compile with 4MB .

Anyway, Android works fine with 1GB. Its not Windows.

      • +3

        4MB! Hedonistic luxury!
        Damned spoilt whippersnapper.

In my day I programmed with 1kb of 8bit RAM (8 memory chips that cost a fortune) and the EPROM had even less capacity. And that's after building the circuit board. I'd lie awake at night dreaming of the luxury of a compiler… had to write everything in machine code ;-)

        • +1

1kb! Back in my day circuits only had 1 bit of address space. Things were usually off and you were damned lucky if they turned on!

        • +2

          @skegger:
Turned on? Luxury. We had to carve out data on rock and stack neatly in corner then re-enter data, in binary, and God help ya if someone knocked over the stack.

      • usually fine with android, but this dell is extremely slow compare with others like samsung tab 3 or acer iconica. only have 250Mb ram left after reboot with no app install.
compare with tab 3 = around 500Mb free.

Maybe it is due to the 1080P screen.

Overall just slow for multitasking like facebook / web browser.
But it is great for watching videos / manga / ebook :)

        • I think it's partially because they are using dual core baytrail CPU. Most of the baytrail tablets out there use quad core ones.

        • @AznMitch:

samsung tab 3 is using a dual core and still fell a bit faster in web browser. It is definitely related to the how dell setup and use up most of the 1Gb memory. The dell with stop for like 10 seconds for the memory to release etc even you only have 1 browser tab. Samsung tab 3 only happens when you open like 3 tabs.

        • @uccoffee: Thought it might be due to most baytrail tablets other than this having more cores, thus making this less powerful, but if tab 3 with Z2560 performed better than this, I think you are right. FHD probably wouldn't help as well (I don't like when manufacturers add high res screen on a tablet that cannot handle the high res.)

    • Agreed performance is awful on 1gig of ram. I'd spend 200 to get something better to be honest.

    • Is having 1gb ram really the problem here? Or is it just poor distro and bloat ware? I never imagine surfing the web be that bad on 1gb.

  • 2 star average rating on dell's own site :L

Save yourself a whole load of hassle and steer clear of this product. The worst piece of technology I have ever owned. The only reason I kept it is to let my kids play apps on it. Don't try and use the internet as it is worse than getting a root canal. How Dell ever let the 3840 out the door is beyond explanation. It has put me off ever buying anything from them again. Life is too short to own this tablet.

      Pros:it looks like a tablet
      Cons:it exists

      Ouch

      • That's what happens when you try to race to the bottom to make cheep budget tablets. The flaws become immediately apparent the moment you switch it on. Slow to boot, sluggish speeds, and no ability to multitask due to lack of RAM. Lack of windows store apps drives the nail in the coffin.

Let's make it cheap, they said. It'll sell by the truckloads, they said.

Nope, looks like they haven't learnt a lesson with windows powered netbooks, the Atom netbook died a pretty quick death and it looks like in a few years time the sub $200 Atom tablet might be on it's way to the clearance bin in your local Australia Post store…

Most android tablets have a lack of windows store apps…

        • @Pobman:

He's lost the plot, they said! :)

  • Hmm AC WiFi and an z3480. Could be a good home handheld PC streamer using Kainy or similar - With an Ipega-9023 possible nvidea shield ripoff.

  • Hmm…$149 is not too bad, but I rather spend a little more to get one that has 2GB RAM.

  • Coming up as $126.36 on iPad for some reason, normal price on PC:

  • So what would be the best value for money 8" tablet? For websurfing, email, youtube, videos, photos…

    • plus phone, my mother in law wants to know.

      • How do you know??? Do you know her?
        ;-(

    • not websurfing due to low memory, will lag heaps when you load any complex pages which are most websites now a days.
you will get better experience with those $99 pendo windows tablet for web surfing

great for video / photo / manga / ebook due to the better screen resolution compare with most low end tablets.
