Norinco JW-15A .22LR Rifle - $199 @ Cleaver Firearms (QLD)

720

These Norinco rifles are actually a Chinese produced copy of the Czech .22 LR Brno ZKM-451, itself a modernized variant of the popular CZ 452 rimfire rifle. They are very accurate for the money! Most retailers have these up around (and over) $300. Pair this with the Bushnell Banner 3–9x40mm for $88 for a truly remarkable setup for next to nothing.

Wow didnt realise we had so many pro gun people in Australia.
You keep telling yourselves its all good … we will end up like the US

        • +1

          @havok44:

The reason you're getting so much attention here is because of your idiotic comment, trying to tell people more educated than yourself on the subject that the sole purpose of guns is killing.

If you think a few people on OzBargain trying to teach you something means Australia will end up with gun laws similar to the US then…I dunno…guess you should just go back to your video games.

Recent OzB purchases: Brita water filters, cree torches, beef jerky, firearm… So I guess I've started to become a prepper now.

    Any deals on underground bunkers?

  • +11

I guess haters gun' hate, but it's not like a kid can just go to a gun shop and buy this, let alone TOUCH it.
You need to do a safety course, pay fees, justify to police your need and apply for a license (takes a while to clear as you undergo EXTENSIVE background checks), pay fees, submit a permit to acquire, pay fees, wait a mandatory 28 days before going to the gun shop, ask for gun, pay fees…
    But yeah, whatever.

  • -3

I have a feeling certain people (races) if getting this deal might get a knock at the door soon (me included )

    • +6

So long as you have never been convicted of any armed offences, DV or assault, you're just one of nearly 1 million responsible gun owners in Australia.

    • +1

Everyone gets a knock at the door regardless of race. After you first register a firearm the police come down and check that your gun safe complies with the relevant legislation (in certain areas of Vic anyway).

    • +6

If that is your mindset then you shouldn't own a firearm. The last thing we need is another pseudo-victim with a gun.

    • You wont be able to walk out of the store with a rifle with out a licence and a permit to acquire a weapon of this class and calibre from this specific supplier. The government will already know you plan to purchase this gun before you can buy it. Regardless of race…..

  • pretty useless except for shooting toads and rabbits..
What's a good bargain bolt action 223 Rem?

Howa 1500 - my fave rifle for sure. I easily get sub MOA. Pick one up for under 600

    • The Steyr Mannlicher Pro Hunter has recently dropped in price and is a great rifle.
A little more than the Howa though.

    • +4

Not useless. 22 is good for learning how to shoot. Start off on something that goes bang and you'll develop the dreaded recoil anticipation flinch.

      • +1

Exactly, it is best to learn on .22, because once you have the flinch from starting bigger calibers it is very hard to unlearn.

        • +1 - they gave us 7.62 SLRs to learn on, at the range, when I was a kid. Not much room for errors either.

        • @manic: that's the L1A1? god, My first shots were on that as a young lad. Freaking hurt like hell and left serious marks.

        • @ChickenTalon:

that sounds like the one all right :-)

    • +1 for the Howa 1500, Ive got one myself great Rifle at reasonable price

If OzBargain commentary offers a cross-section of Australian society, which I think it does to some degree, it's really a wonder that any of the post baby-boomers make to the age of 30 without dying from heart attacks and strokes induced by pant-shitting hysterical, paranoia over things that'll never impact their lives directly.

I don't understand how some of the people on here actually function in their day-to-day lives without being consumed by fear and it's really hard to think of a more terrorised populace than Australia; the irony of the "lucky country" with some of the highest living standards in the world and extremely negligible crime rates, whose people walk around like impending doom is hanging over their heads at any moment.

    • +12

I think people are hyper-sensitive (if that is the antonym of being desensitized) more than anything due to the lack of exposure and education. You should see the looks I get at times if I tell someone I slaughter my own meat chooks or cut the culled rabbits up for dog food. A practice that was once a way of survival now it's food spoilage and not wanting to see/hear how an animal is processed for consumption but will blindly eat it.

I just got my photo taken for my license and waiting fie it to come in the mail. Is this a good first ever gun and also do they ship it straight to me or does it have to go to a gun club.

    • "is it a good first ever gun" is a very broad question but sure why not. Its cheap and basic. You will learn to clean and take care of a cheap rifle before spending more money on a better rifle.

It will have to go to a dealer or a local police station.

If you are in QLD and just submitted your photo expect it to take a few more months, you will still need to be identified at the police station, it will take roughly a month after that.

      • +1

I'm in NSW I don't think it will take months for my license to arrive. I want to use it for shooting bottles maybe a rabbit here and there

        • Check out some local dealers if you're in NSW - you'll have to have it sent to a gun shop, and they're likely to charge you for registering it. You'd likely get a better deal asking them. Although it was a couple of years back now, when a mate was looking for a cheap .22 he was offered a brand new puma (Norinco but rebranded) for around the same price at Abelas.

        • +1

more than likely it will be at least months before you can use a rifle that you own. The minimum processing time for new licence applications is 35 days allowing 7 days for postage. then you need to get Permit to Acquire which costs more money and more time in the post and since its your first one there is a mandatory 28 day waiting period from the date the application is received at the Firearms Registry before your PTA can be issued. so at the very best two months before you can own a rifle. Although you can use someone else's gun once you get your licence

        • +1

@eneloop: sweet now you just got to get permit to acquire which is another 28 days

        • @Hayesy22:

          Oh thanks mate didn't known

    • you organise it to be sent to a gun shop near you and then you pay a fee to get it.

Perhaps firearm posts ought to come with some form of disclaimer or a link to rules for buying them in Australia….or to a forum link?

I would guess many ppl here (especially kids) might not know the legalities.

    • +2

Absolutely no difference than under aged members seeing posts about alcohol. If they don't have the appropriate licence and permits they will not be able to acquire a firearm.

    • +2

Uh … don't you think the shop will do that? You think they just have a checkbox "yes I have a license"?

    • +2

Problem is there are so many different rules depending on where you are. The one overlying rule that is the same in all states/territories is that you can't buy one without a license, so if someone tries to buy it without the appropriate license they will be denied.

  • Impressively cheap

  • +10

plus voting this just to tick off the anti-gun crybabies

  • I have one of these puppies, Plus I owned what it is a copy of - a Brno Model 2, and can confirm this is a pretty damned good effort at a copy. Seldom miss with this little gem. Well worth the $$$.

    • Yeah they're not bad at all! Plus if you take care of them, they'll work well for a long time - my old man has a norinco 22LR that's about 20 years old and he can still shoot the head off a pin with it @ 50m.

"The fatter wog said to the skinnier wog: 'Oi bro, you slept with my cousin'. And the other one said: 'Nah man, I didn't for s***, eh' and the other one goes: 'I will call on my fully sick boys, eh'. And then pulled out a gun and went: Ch-k ch-k boom!"

It is interesting that a gun deal makes the Front Page at this particular time, because I have been working on a firearms mods for Fallout 3 lately in my spare time. There are much more dangerous things in Fallout than .22 caliber rifles and BB guns :)

When I was a youngling, it was almost as easy to acquire a firearm in Australia as it was in 'Murica, but all it took was one schizophrenic to shoot a few people. I am surprised our totalitarian, all benevolent, freedom hating Nanny State still allows people to own any sort of weapons, even if it is limited to bolt-action rifles, crossbows and BB guns.

    • What state allows you to own a crossbow or BB gun ? As far as I knew they were illegal in Australia. Semi-automatics can still be owned under strict laws, basically just primary-producers (depending on the state).

    • Yeah in QLD they were in Kmart "sporting goods" dept, right next to the fishing rods.
Being from Victoria, I asked about licences, the guy said in a smart -assed voice "you over 16?" - that was it
      (1980's)

Must say though, taking away the slug guns was just OTT. So much fun as a kid. What other country treats a slug guns/bb guns like proper weapons needing full licence, storage etc really went to far with that one.

  • +3

No wonder we live in a nanny state… Look at all these babies…

Guns scare the crap out of me. I bet the Devil designed the first one on one of his visits to Earth. Ew ew eww!

  • +1

Firearms are so heavily regulated in this country. What I find so strange is that every second cinematic release contains over the top use of firearms and likewise most console games. They are so far removed from the reality of being a sporting shooter in Australia today. There are thousands of competitions at clubs all over Australia every weekend where firearms are used safely and responsibly: no injuries, no deaths no problems. Yet the anti-gun lobby get so much airtime in the media and governments all over this country try to demonise the shooting community that is doing the right thing and obeying the law.
