I was keen to buy this, but then I asked my wife if she'd consider Ainol and she slapped me…

    • +12

I guess the $5.60 Durex will be no good to you ;)

    • Thats too bad, a friend of mine once told me once you try Ainol, you'll never go back. She must have been referring to this Mini PC.

  • +6

Using this is painful at first, but then after a while I've heard it gets better

    • +3

It really does, hell… I can't live without it now!

    • Lies. It doesn't get better. This is just talk to entice people to Ainol. Sinners with ulterior motives want to corrupt the clean and innocent with their wicked and sly ways.

We still talking about the PC ..right

    • +15

Nope - these guys aren't being PC at all.

    • We still talking about the PC ..right

No. They are now talking about the human anus.

      • Yeah…mite really the butt of all jokes.

  • +1

I was also worried about the name, butt I have one of these PC PC's and they are pretty good for what there are and can do.
They don't suffer from heat problems like the PIPO or VOYO unit.
Please no friction about this post.

    • the built quality on photos looks pretty good.

      • I found the build quality exceptional. The case is entirely metal and feels solid. Plus, they did a good job using the case as a heatsink. When I reviewed it, it never exceeded 58 degrees Celsius which is pretty impressive.

  • Ok back up - back up…. seems like the perfect HTPC, whats the catch? No optical sound?

    • Can't you use the HDMI sound output?

      • Nah not on my old amp….

        • TV loop? Hdmi in tv and from tv to amp via optical?

        • +2

usb sound card will enable it

        • @edgar28: This is the best option, or take audio from the 3.5mm port but that wouldn't be as good.

  • No optical out, Has HDMI so should fit into your system
Netflix and Plex 100% win apps

  • I'm thinking about either getting this+OpenELEC or MXIII M82 Android Box+Kodi. Does anyone know if they can pass-through the sound (DTS/AC3/DTS-HD MA etc) when connected to a receiver? Mine is the Pioneer VSX-923.

    • why not just get a rpi2.. I was planning something similar while waiting for the pipox7 to arrive earlier this year.. in between the rpi2 got released and it runs openelec flawlessly.. plus I use my tv remote over hdmi-cec.

not sure about this one but there used to be issues about getting openelec on these kind of boxes.

  • does it vibrate during action scenes to give realm experience ?

  • Looks pretty good for a little plex, netflix & steam streaming box.
Just wish it had an ethernet port, but can't see one hidden behind the watermarks (worried someone will steam a photo??)

    • USB ethernet dongle?

    • No ethernet unfortunately, but a USB to Ethernet dongle will solve that issue.

      • Another question please. There is mention of remote/thumb keyboard' are these available and do you have a ball park cost? Thanks

        • I'd look at something like the Rikomagic MK705 or the famous Logitech K400R

I purchased this and did a bit of a write up you may be interested,

    Cheers

  • Is it possible to install a Linux dist on it? And install Windows 8.1 back later? What about Windows 10?

  • Win10 I have on a similar device, no need to go back win10 I find is good.
    Work's well with the K400r

    • +1

It's not.. The X7 is a bloody oven. They overheat all the time.

      • Fortunately it's been fixed in the X8 ;)

Major issues with this retailer… they lie about shipping, fake shipping notifications, don't respond to PayPal disputes, lie when it comes to PayPal claims (PayPal sided with me, and they still appealed it!).

See here for more info as well

You need to make your association clear as well OP - you're clearly connected to them and getting some sort of kickback, but not saying you're a rep and can't seem to get anything done.

    • -1

By having the Associated tag, that means I am associated with Geekbuying…

When people have issues I go to the employee I'm associated with and ask them if they can do anything. I then pass that information on to the people having issues.

    • Alright, for your benefit and everyone else I've set myself as Official Marketing. I am not marked as an Official Store Rep as I'm not directly employed by them and not getting paid as such. This has also been cleared with the Ozb mods.

  • I'm really interested in a toy like this, but have to justify it to the wife as to what it can (and cannot) do.

Can someone give a quick summary of what an ultra mini PC like this can do well?

  • +1

I was surprised what it can do, My thought first was Windows on such a small device aint going to happen well.
But It does work. Media, Games emulators, lots of reviews about, charge your mobile phone.
Its not a power house and will always come in handy no matter how hard to justify it to the wife.

    • browse internet?

and no matter what you say, it can be a tough ask justifying Ainol to your wife

I have a AINOL Novo Spark quad core tablet. Was a pretty good tablet but the charging port is broken now. Still not bad. I had to replace the crappy antenna inside it but the IPS screen that it had was awesome. So not a bad brand for a no-name Chinese brand.

mcbub.com also sells these type of brands.

  • the battery part on this makes it an awesome carputer… remember that fad??

    • Still is a thing. I've mounted the Nexus 7 in my own car ;)

  • carputer has been killed off with the new batch of android based touch screen stereos which I have one and very happy with it

  • I had bought Asus zenfone 2 from them with 4GB ram but when Mobile was delivered it had 2GB ram. It took 15 days to deliver with DHL. Vendor is highly unreliable cannot trust what they are saying and what they are offering.
