Kindle Paperwhite Nextgen E-Book Reader Wi-Fi 4GB $109 @ Dick Smith eBay

1420
CPICKUP15

Using the Coupon Code (CPICKUP15) posted in from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/195201

I was able to get the Kindle paper for $109 pickup in store.

This is the cheapest I have seen it ever. The next best deal I have seen would be this one. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/188223

Thanks.

Wondering how hard it really is to give someone a kindle. It was kinda funny when the dude said first there were 50 and then 100 orders pending. If this is stressful god help them when they get a real job.

    Thanks OP! Bought

Cheers for the comments guys. I could not believe the price when I saw it this morning. I bought one months ago for my partner and it seriously is a great product. I thought like most non kindle owners that having a book is better (to actually hold something like a book) but in practice the kindle weighs less, it remembers the page you're on, allows you to carry heaps and heaps of books. its super light and I love the dictionary function. I just couldn't resist getting one for myself this morning.
Also I got a sms and email response that its ready to be picked up from the George Street dicksmith store. EXCELLENT!

Just picked up mine from DSE Northland!

C/C in Northland is very quick normally within hours.

Unfortunately I just got a non-backlight Kindle last month but I would prefer the backlight version so I grab this one anyway.

    Thanks OP again!!!!

  • Is it possible to get the cash rewards and Flybuys points together when buying this? I mean we have to access eBay through the respective websites to get them, so I assume no? Unless someone has a way.

Cheers OP. Finally I will have a Kindle.

Thank you, OP. I had the old basic one for many years now & just ordered this one. (I had to create eBay & PayPal accounts though, plus this ozbargain account to say thanks, and for the countless of other crazy purchases I'll make in the future). :)

  • I'm completely new to this but can we download ebooks and transfer to the device easily? Or do we have to purchase through a kindle store?

Calibre software is awesome, so easy to use

      http://calibre-ebook.com/

    • +1

Yep, you can just drag and drop books to it when connected to a computer.

    • +1

You can also email documents to your unique kindle address and they will then download to your Kindle.
Use Calibre to convert other formats to a Kindle-compatible format or to send news feeds
Use the "Push to Kindle" Firefox extension or a similar one to send web pages to your Kindle.

  • This item is temporarily sold out. Ozbargained

    • Damn… It expired just as I was about to buy it… Don't think it was sold out though - there was stock in every listed store - so they probably just pulled it for some reason.

  • So what does "next gen" mean here? Is it Paperwhite 2 from late 2013?

  • +2

Got one - Long Live Dick!

  • Mine says wifi+3G, does anyone else's? I can't seem to find a slot for SIM card though

    • The 3g version is a lot more expensive, maybe you lucked out?! I believe they have a sim card built in and it connects to whichever network is available

      • Ya I think I got lucky…. Unless I have paper white version 1. Anyone knows how to tell the difference between p2 vs p1?

        • +2

Paperwhite 1 = Kindle logo on the back
Paperwhite 2 = Amazon logo on the back

According to a forum post I found :)

        • @happyantix: thanks!! :) looks like I have pw2 with 3G except I don't know how to connect 3G with it! Haha

        • @PipSqueakables:

Lucky!! Should be an option in settings to connect the 3g it allows you to buy and download Amazon books from anywhere worldwide that has mobile signal

        • @happyantix: I got it, 3G is free globally and doesn't require a telco. Doesn't allow me to browse websites but only works with kindle store and cloud storage. Good enough for me! :))

    • Mine says wifi+3G, does anyone else's?

I did some digging, and as @happyantix said below, it doesn't require a sim card. Instead, Amazon must have some sort of deal with the local telcos - I think it connects to Vodafone wherever it's available, but connectivity and speeds are much better and unrestricted on wifi.
I picked up my kindle from ds this morning. Model No. DP755SDI which is supposedly the wifi only model - but I also get 3G… so I'm a bit confused. The packaging and receipt say it's the wifi model, and the model no. corresponds to the wifi model on the DS website and the internet as well.

So, I actually weighed it, because the 3G version weighs more than the wifi model - as per usual for most 3G enabled devices.

      [Amazon Website] (http://www.amazon.com.au/gp/feature.html?docId=3077740006)
In the compare section, the 3G model weighs 215g (which is what mine weighs) vs. the wifi @206g.

      Can anyone settle my confusion…?

      • +2

My packaging shows "3G + wifi" at the back and it also says 3G at the back of the device below "assembled in China". The 3G is free… You don't need to connect to telco… it connects anywhere globally but Amazon will charge $0.99/mb if I receive personal documents through their kindle email address outside US or for subscriptions to news, mags or blogs $4.99/week. However, buying kindle books on kindle store using the 3G is free.

      • My model is DP75SDI. It also says "Wi-fi + 3G" when I goto "Device Info" under settings.

  • Is this 3rd gen or 2nd gen? Anyone know? They really shouldn't put Nextgen in its title, because that's like calling it New 3DS or New iPad which is silly when the next version releases.

    • +1

Second gen which is the latest paperwhite

  • My local store have my 2 kindles and cases put a side but won't let me take them to they get the confirmation on there computer from online. Ordered at 8.45 this morning, rang at 11,1 and 4pm and still nothing.

  • damn, wish i had 'bought' all those free ebooks!

    • Those books only contain information you can get for free with a google search anyway. Most of them are only dozens of pages long tops. It's stuff someone would have posted for free, but instead put on amazon. Don't worry too much about it.
