I believe this is the all time lowest price. Has previously been on sale for $299.

Latest Kindle Paperwhite Signature.
- 32GB
- Wireless Charging
- 7" Screen
- Waterproof

Differences between this and the regular Paperwhite (currently $229):
- 16GB more storage
- Auto adjusting backlight
- Wireless charging

May not be worth it for some, but personally happy to pay the extra $30 for these improvements.

Have they released jailbreak for latest firmware?

  • +3

Might be worth waiting until tomorrow to see whether Shopback / Cashrewards offer bonus cashback. Typically quite large on Amazon products.

I don't get the point of the wireless charging, on something that's got a battery life measured in weeks and months.

    • Just means you don't need to plug it in - I think it's just purely convenience. I personally like the option.

      • Thankfully I don't mind plugging my kindle like, once every 2 months. Certainly feels more like adding features to justify charging extra to me.

        • Also probably true!

If its anything like a phone, its a good backup option if the charging port starts playing up and can extend the device longevity

  • Why wouldn't you combine posts with the Paperwhite post.

  • +1

I am considering this as it now has double tap the back to change pages vs only hitting the screen. Which is a nice quality of life feature.

    • I just wish they introduced an adjustable deadzone feature for the screen. I love holding mine one-handed but my thumb always rests on the screen and turns pages or highlights random parts of a book.

  • Which is better - Kindle or Kobo?

    • +1

Got the kobo. It's much better if you don't want to keep buying books but prefer to sideload and borrow on Libby

      • How's the equality of the screen. Didn't impress in any of the JB's I visited.

      • +2

Libby is good but calibre will sideload on kindle

Amazon's "Send to Kindle" works with ePubs. No need for Calibre any more, if you don't mind having an Amazon account.

        • This is the way …

just from waterproof aspect: wife's submerged for 5 minutes and died (used frequently around spa/tub quite often). Luckily Amazon replaced it.

I have KLC and still going strong even submerged for 10+ minutes. Not sure the technical points behind it.

  • Is kobo the best open alternative? what are the other non-software locked alternatives out there?

Release the colour model in Australia already…

    • 100%. Amazon hardware is always soooo delayed in Australia.

20% cashrewards on Amazon products brings down the price considerably.

    • There's also a $3 cashback above $30 for Amazon that can be activated too. It's not much, but it's something.

These things were 200 10 years ago.
