Letterboxes at Bunnings - 50 to 90% off

620

Been to bunnings at Melton Vic (might be at other places too?) and surprised to see their action towards killing snail mail… it look like mass murder attempt…. Come on Bunnings some people need letter boxes for junk mails…

Image is of one side of rack.. another side $400 letterboxes reduced to $100… Looks like a good deal for someone still in love with snail mail….

As a postie, please don't buy one of those ones with the spring loaded door.

As a postie, please don't buy one of those ones with the spring loaded door.

Only if you promise to stick the mail all the way in and not leave it hanging out!

Posties just love big boxes that will swallow an a4 size parcel withould folding or shoving.

That is the mailbox you should buy.

        • so one of those pakman mailboxes?

        • +3

Can't believe the tiny 70's(?) mailboxes that you'd have to fold a postcard to fit. How were they not banned. Enough to make a postie go -postal?

        • +3

I got a pakman, which takes up to A3.
I cannot understand why Australia has such tiny letterboxes by default.

Posties just love big boxes that will swallow an a4 size parcel withould folding or shoving.

The mailbox we have will take over two reams of A4 sideways yet the postman still often leaves letters hanging out of the large slot. Luckily most mail goes to the GPO box.

        • @Make it so: how do you find the pakman? I'm thinking about getting one….

        • I have one (A4 size, not Pakman), but the junk mail people leave wads of catalogs hanging halfway out, blocking it up anyway..

        • +1

@Level380: Only had it for a short while - not received parcels yet. Hope my mailman will like it, but too early to tell. I am satisfied about the design and build quality of it, however.

        • Question for you as postie: do typical posties "recognise" Pakman's, and know they have a chute?
Got a large envelope/parcel this morning. Was left sticking out of the letterbox part of my Pakman. Postie did not use the chute. Do I need to label my chute?
My postie is a bit lazy. Never puts mail in properly, leaves parcels on top of letterbox or at door, and folds A4-sized mail before shoving it in my previous A4+ sized letterbox. I was hoping he would love the Pakman…. Wife says maybe we have to leave cookies in the chute (?)

        • @Make it so: Thanks for your thoughts on the pakman. Glad to hear its well made!

As for your postie Q's, I'm guessing lazy postie. I often see it when out walking, letterbox after letterbox with mail sticking half out. Its the posties version of 'close enough is good enough'

Hopefully he will shove the parcel into the chute though.

I am shocked by this thread at the amount of people who get parcels left on the top of the mailbox at the street level. REALLY AUSPOST? where is the duty of care here? How is this a 'safe delivery?'

What about ones with a little flag you can put up? I'm not sure if my postie minds doing it or not. I hang a chockie or mini scotch bottle from it every now again.

      • +1

No they're cool. It's just that the door ones are a two handed operation, which is a real pita when you are riding a motor bike.

      • I thought they worked with some kind of latch that popped the flag up when mail is inserted? Obviously not.

        • Good idea. They probably do have them. I made this myself from a steel rod attached to a bicycle wheel reflector

    • Postie, is there a maximum height? Ours is about our fence, which I think is only 1.2 metres anyway, but yeah

    • +2

I got one of those spring loaded one because it advertised in Bunnings as "secure" and no one can steal your letters.

Guess what, the posties just stick it half way in and everyone can acces to my letters.

      Oh well….

Do they have any lockable boxes that can take parcels?

    • +3

Bunnings sell PakMan but not sure if on sale (doubt it).

      • +1

awesome.. never knew these even existed, thanks to both of you for highlighting the lockable parcel mail box.

      • The top part of the Pakman is on sale in that pic, maybe the rest of it is too.

        • Bunnings in Narre Warren also had the top parts of the pakman post boxes on sale, but I ended up getting a normal styled letterbox for $20 (marked down from $80).

I think this is a good one for me. Can I buy this one in Randwick store?

    • Yeah why not

  • +1

I was waiting for the Post!

  • +1

They're just changing suppliers and getting rid of the old supplier's stock.

    • +2

I can tell you as a Sandleford representative, this is not the case. There is a new range of letterboxes being introduced, and a lot of the slower selling lines are being deleted to make room for them.

EDIT, Velox brick-in letterboxes are being replaced. My apologies.

can anyone confirm this sale is occurring at other Bunnings stores please?

    • I recall seeing some letter boxes on clearance at my local in Bunbury WA 1-2 weeks ago.

    • +1

Every Bunnings store around the country SHOULD be marking down their deleted letterbox lines. It is at the store's discretion as to how much though.

      • +1

thanks for the replies, but answering my own question - yes, this should be every Bunnings - the prices are not marked down on all mailboxes, just the ones placed in the clearance zone. There were the mailbox attachments for the Pakman system, lots of $50 (marked down from $100) mailboxes.. but none which had a lift top AND round thing for catalogues (which is what I like).. so I was then browsing in the full price mail box area and found exactly what I was after, marked down from $80 to $20 - so bought it, a post, a shovel and some ready mix. Then I spotted some folding chairs with cooler bags on sale for $5 each. So I bought them as well.

        • More info on said folding chair & cooler bag for $5?

        • @vvti85: was clearance, missing their carry bags (ones with carry bags were $10 each).. same goes for lynx's comments below.. items in the aisles generally not on heavy discount, items with big discounts only in the clearance section.

      • Went to my local bunnings yesterday and they didn't have any markbdowns like this in the letterbox section . they had a couple of things in the clearance sections but nothing good like in your pic. :(

  • Saw similar sell in artarmon as well

For some reason those letterboxes reminded me of those 3.5" floppy disk drives which were all the rage in the 90s lol

  • +2

    Does Bunnings deliver?

    • +19

Not if you don't have a post box.

      • +4

        boxception

    • -1

I hope so. I can't be bothered driving to my local Bunnies, 30 seconds drive from where I live. :p

  • They have been on sale for 3 months now

  • +1

    Nice post

  • +6

I got rid of my mail box a few months ago. Haven't had a single bill since.

    • Good idea

  • Similar sale at Bunnings Frankston (VIC)

  • I hope their sale includes stand alone letter boxes (that don't need to be installed into a wall). I've never understood why a small box costs twelve bucks, while an A4 version costs over seventy.

  • This adds a new meaning to "going postal" !!! XD LOL

  • Thx OP. Picked up a Buzon Lupe SS which was $369 back in the day for $79. Was last one left.

    • Which bunnings was that at? I'm at Port Melb now & the Lupe is at $100. Are the markdown prices at store descretion? Anyone know if there are any other fence mounted boxes at other bunnings around inner south east area's?

      • The Crossroads NSW.
Ticketed to be $100 but scanned in at $79

        • My husband was just at Sth Oakleigh, and they had the Lupe for $50. In true Ozbargain fashion I told him to buy it, I will return the $100 (still unopened) this week.

  • Got sick of the postie leaving my parcels on 'TOP' of the letterbox. Built one for under $60.00. 30cm wide, by 30cm deep by 1.8 meters high. Nobody can reach in from the outside to get parcels and postie loves it.
