  • Its a good gadget. Cheap. But not sure why you are posting it here. Its a couple of bucks cheaper than other suppliers at the moment.
You think people have been holding off buying because it was $3 too expensive? Is the referral commission really worth the effort?

But yes, good product and absurdly cheap. A bargain at its regular price.

Your comment came full circle :)

3 bucks? This is OzBargain.. ;)

  • How long to get it here usually?

    • 3 weeks

      • Thanks, just saw the 2 to 25 in the ad.

        • Business days remember, not calendar days.

    • Of my orders from Banggood, the quickest has been 13 days, the longest 19 days.
(In my case I'm talking calendar days)

  • For the price, this is a really good unit. I recommend installing the unofficial OpenELEC release if you just want XBMC/Kodi.

Keep in mind though that it does not come with a remote control. If you install OpenELEC you can use your TV remote via CEC, and some compatible USB to IR remotes/dongles will also work. As will any standard USB keyboard.

  • What was the price before sale ? And what benefits do we get for using your referral link

    • I'm not sure on Banggoods original price, but as manic points out, it's just a few bucks cheaper than other chinese stores. Having said that though, I've had much better experience with shipping times from Banggood than others such as GearBest.
As far as the referral, just a warm fuzzy feeling for helping out a fellow OzBargainer.. I'm not expecting anyone to use it, but it's there, so figured it can't hurt to include it.

  • I would be very surprised if this had H.265 hardware decoding. This is a fairly old model.

Many units had problems with wifi and over heating.

Are you thinking of the older non Plus version?

      • Yes, apologies. I didn't realise it was the plus model.

    • "I would be very surprised if this had H.265 hardware decoding. This is a fairly old model."

      Be surprised then

"Today you can find several other inexpensive and decent H.265 capable Android based media player set-top box for less than $50 built on the Amlogic S805 SoC that are all capable of playing HEVC (H.265) videos, but MK808B Plus may just be the cheapest H.265 capable player on the market, as this Amlogic S805 based Android TV stick can be found for around $35 USD including shipping from many different Chinese online stores."

  • Can Android devices like this actually act as a pretend Chromecast? (Given they're so cheap)

    • Not really, the closest they have is Miracast but that works a little differently. Basically it just mirrors whatever is on your phone screen.
I did try to use it on one of these with my phone, but couldn't get my phone to detect it at all. Wasn't something I really needed to use though, so gave up.

      • But the DLNA part works ok?
Thats all I am after, access to video files on PC in lounge via wifi to TV in back room.

        • Yes, comes with a pre-installed DLNA app. Or add your favourite from the Play store.
Kodi/xbmc is good for that too.

  • And hopefully someone knowledgeable can chime in here
The thought was to get xbmc/kodi working on PC in lounge, controlled via remote on tablet and have that display on screen in back room.
    Is that what it does?

Or will it be xbmc on MK808B Plus displaying on tv in back room accessing movies on PC and still controlled by xbmc remote or even unified remote

    • Think of the stick as a tablet without a screen. It runs as a full client of Kodi. There are several methods of sharing media across multiple Kodi clients. UPnP library sharing, central MySQL library or just sharing the files (though this won't share the library, each will have its own record of files and whats been watched etc)

If your files are hosted on your lounge PC, you can share them and access directly via the stick in the back room, controlling Kodi on the stick via XBMC Remote or Yatse etc, or USB keyboard.

You can also use Kodi on the stick as a UPnP target, and play anything on your network to that as the renderer (including selecting movies on lounge Kodi and telling them to play on stick Kodi. If you have UPnP library sharing enabled you should be able to browse everything on the lounge PC Kodi library on the back room Kodi client and play it there. This should keep track of watched status across clients (though not resume points if you stop watching on one)

MySQL and a central file store is the way to go, but a bit more work initially, especially if you have an existing database. I have several Kodi clients running, Windows PC's, RasPi, and Android clients. I have my files stored on a NAS which also hosts the MySQL database. Each client is set up to access this and the watched status of files from any client is visible on another. Also if I stop watching on one, when I continue on another client it also knows what point it was stopped at and I can resume from there.

  • Thanks for that, order one I shall.

  • How is this compared to android TV box with Chip rk3188 quadcore 2gb ram?
The later I looked at cost $70 though, aim to use the device ( either stick or box) to play rmvb, MP4, MPEG and mkv files from my hp Microserver running windows server 2012 and files from external hard drive. Want something easy for my parents to use.

    • The later I looked at cost $70 though

Sounds like a Minix clone. You get a remote control included, s/pdif, ethernet.
I doubt the extra ram will matter for a htpc. Maybe a bit faster to switch apps?

    • Yeah, the only thing the rk3188 won't handle is h265, but you gain the other extras as manic says

  • Had mine turn up yesterday
Does everything as advertised now tentatively looking at open elec
