Brisbane Airtrain Airport-City One Way $13.50, Return $25 @ Living Social [QLD]

140

Note that this is ONLY for Airport-City (and return if so), this cannot be used for City-Airport.
Not a bad price for a single or 2 person airtrain one-way or return ticket.

Cheaper than the normal online site's pricing regardless of how long until you need it, if even a $1 or $2, would add up if you make multiple trips on the airtrain.
If you have 3 or more people in a group then you would be better off using this.

Must use them by August 17, 2015

•Purchase unlimited vouchers
•No bookings required; please present voucher at ticket counter at terminal
•Must present printed voucher upon redemption at airport ticket counters
•Voucher can only be redeemed at airport ticket counters
•Valid only for travel from Brisbane Airport stations into Brisbane City stations between Fortitude Valley, Central Station, Roma Street Station and South Brisbane

    What a bloody ripoff

What? Just because every other airport in the world charges a reasonable price as if it was a normal suburban station in a bid to encourage people to use mass transit?

What about the taxi drivers? WHY WON'T ANYONE THINK OF THE TAXI DRIVERS!
(Oh.. and a former Brisbane Lord Mayor's investment portfolio…)

It is a joke, Sydney is no better. Melbourne is even worse considering the distance and the fact you have to catch a bus and it's just as expensive and even more inconvenient.

Singapore is divine by comparison. Hell, even New York on a relatively cruddy train from JFK is only about $5 from memory and it's quite a long way. You wouldn't want to have to cab it.

Ageed 400%. Singapore's MRT was literally pocket change to get to and from Changi Airport and the City Centre. Taxi's cost me (I shit you not) $8 tops if I wanted to go the same way.

        • $8?! Where were you going to?
I didn't even bother considering a taxi after I saw how good the MRT was. I used it to get everywhere.

      • Basically Brisbane doesn't have the population of Singapore or New York or Hong Kong or Tokyo. The amount of rail they have to maintain spans nearly the whole state and for the population of passengers travelling it's always a battle to keep prices low.

I just want to keep this issue realistic.

        • I have no issue with the slightly higher price of public transport - I think it's still reasonable, all things considered. The Air Train however slugs users with a gate surcharge not commensurate with the cost of the service. There isn't a sudden change in the cost of construction going from Toombul to the Airport to justify it. It's private industry making a profit (and yes, I am aware that's what business is about).

My issue is why not make it part of the transport network and charge the $4-5 of a normal trip so people are encourage to use it instead of catching a cab to/from the City for $50-60, clogging roads, slowing traffic and polluting the environment more?

        • @toristo:

I have to agree with you why that just privatised that section of the Rail Route I can't understand. Maybe that private company invests or maintains that section of the rail line I am not sure. Either way I totally agree with you cheaper public transport as opposed to more roads I feel is the best approach.

Cheapest option is to hop on local (slower) transport at airports. I know Brisbane, Gold Coast & Sydney airports well. Would make a good travel Wiki.

For the frugal with little luggage, there is the free regular shuttle bus from terminals to DFO. Check timetable pdf link at end of transport options. Shuttle hours stop late night/ early morning connection.

From there the local 590 bus takes you North to Eagle Junction (a couple of stations towards city on same line as Airport Train, but much cheaper) or Toombul stations, & Toombul bus interchange.

For those heading to the South of the river, the 590 takes you through Cannon Hill, Carindale, to Garden City in Upper Mt Gravatt

Both trips are 1 zone fares & you can transfer to other transport cheaply.

Cheapest travel option is to buy a GoCard at terminal tourist information or airport train stations. Get a refund on unused credit at end of trip, especially easy at stations.

Concession tickets / GoCard may be available - fares are half price.

    Search for services http://translink.com.au
    Entering DFO Brisbane as Start

    eg to city
    This is a 3 zone journey, travelling in zones 1 - 3.

    go card adult fare: $4.66
Or $3.72 (off-peak From 8.30am to 3.30pm and after 7pm weekdays until 3am the following day and all day weekends and public holidays)
    Single paper adult ticket $6.70
    eg
    2.53pm - 3.07pm (off peak)
Catch bus 590 Garden City, Carindale, Metroplex, DFO, Toombul to Toombul Interchange, Nundah
    3.07pm - 3.11pm
Walk 213m to Toombul station, platform 1, Nundah
    3.16pm - 3.35pm
Catch train CACL Caboolture via Brisbane City to Cleveland to Roma Street station, platform 5, City

eg South to Garden City (1 zone)
    go card adult fare: $3.35
    Or $2.68 (off-peak)
    Single paper adult ticket $4.80

    3.20pm - 4.16pm (off peak)
Catch bus 590 Toombul, DFO, Metroplex, Carindale, Garden City to Garden City Shopping Centre station stop B, Upper Mount Gravatt

So I travel to Brisbane Airport from Carindale on Concession GoCard for $1.34 :-)

For the super frugal, I've known foreign travellers who sleep over night in the prayer room in International Terminal.

^ Now that's the Ozbargain way..!

      • Late 2013, caught the bus + shuttle from home to a $10 Jetstar flight to Sydney. At airport - walked to the bus stop, caught bus to train & was in CBD Sydney for under $20 from home in Brisbane :-)

    • That's good to know, thanks!

      • I've posted this a few times before. Others posted the cheap Sydney connections.

        Worth combining as an
Airport Transport Wiki - a 1 stop place for common budget options at different airports in Oz & international.

Wikis are good for reference information like this, forums for discussion, deals for actual deals. Problem is few know Wikis exist.

From my experience with the Telstra Starter Pack Wiki, maintaining a constantly changing Wiki is a pain. (Here, transport routes change, the link to transport info changes, fares change,…)

But I guess there are sites or apps doing it better.

  • I could not find more information on the return ticket. If we use the first trip before the 17 Aug, when will the return ticket expire?
