Nokia E71 FREE on The $29 Cap with Three + $100 Credit + $64 Cashback

260

Three has finally dropped the Nokia E71 to the $29 cap plan for free!
This is because the E72 is out which for most people does not really add that much more to the game that the E71 does not have. If you are wondering about this phone, ask someone who has it :)

You can also use the 100special code for $100 online credit and moneybackco for $64 cash back if you are extra saavy. :)

  • You cannot use the $100 cash back AND the $64 MBC together…

    But good deal :)

  • I am now on the old $29 plan, in which the minimum payment each month is $19, if I sign another two years contract with 3 and get the E71, can I still stay in the old $29 plan, or I have to move to the new plan?

    • +2

      new plan.

you should wait until your contract finishes first, who knows… they might give you an offer to upgrade for less.

If you have been a long time customer of three you should also ask and see if they can give you a loyalty discount.

      • Thanks!

        • Last time I tried to keep my old $29 (after my contract expired), but didn't work (after talking with the sales guy in Three store and CS over the phone). To get a new phone, I had to switch to the new $29 plan, which is not bad (get more minutes, though the minimum is becoming really $29).

  • I have been with 3 for near 4 years. got an ok upgrade after first contract. was offered more expensive deal after 2nd contract. so, i left. but still like the $5 email offer.

    • That's a shame. I've been with them for six years, and during my second handset with Three i asked for a discount and was refused one. This time round though I got a pretty good deal.

When the E71 was still at $29+5 cap I asked for a loyalty discount and the rep agreed to cut it down to $30 a month and include a free News / Weather pack.

Of course I should've seen it coming when they were going to lower the prices for the E71 anyway.. but that was 1.5 month ago.

      /kicks myself.

If you have been with 3 for a few years they will always give you a better deal . Do it over the phone not in a shop . My wife got the E71 free 6 months ago on the $29 cap . Always try and bargain for the next model up if thats what you would prefer . They bandy around around the words loyalty bonus etc but at the end of the day just ask for more than they are offering and you may be suprised .

    • I called 3, got nothing for upgrade, even worth than online upgrade. 3 years customer.

      • Last time I took a promotion like this, I signed up for deal as new customer, bought a Vodafone $2 sim, activated it, ported existing 3 number to it, then ported my number from vodafone back to the new 3 phone. Worked great.

  • +1

I will try if I can get a better deal.

  • At that price I'd say it's good deal for those out there looking for a smart-phone on the cheap. It's a solid, well equipped and well built phone (qwerty, gps, bluetooth, wifi, hsdpa etc) and virgin mobile still want it for $29 cap + $5.

Here's a pretty balanced review of it:

As always, make sure you check out the mobile provider before signing up with them (reception and plan caveats in particular). For 3 I believe you need to be careful if using data when roaming due to the high price it's charged at..

Cool but E72 is out (and on 3) and blows the E71 out of the water!

    • E72 is on the $69 cap… which is a bit too expensive for most people.

On another note, Mobicity has the E72 unlocked for $530 ish, which is pretty cheap for a phone that just came out.
      http://www.mobicity.com.au/nokia-e72.html
Only caveat is that it's not Telstra NextG capable

    • Could you please explain how the E72 "blows it out of the water"? I dunno much about these new generation of phones…but i'm looking to buy one.

Others have said this is a good deal.

      Doing this comparison…

      http://shop.three.com.au/compare-mobiles?_requestid=386204

there doesn't seem to be much difference as far as specs…aside from the better camera

      • Does the E72 comes with cannons? I know the E71 has no cannons, maybe that's how it's 'blown out of the water'.

      • E72 runs faster than E71, I saw the test, test on game, internet and video, the cpu is better.

    • Could you illustrate with a few points just how the E72 'blows the E71 out of the water', otherwise the statement doesn't tell us much at all except you favour the E72.

One thing I do know is that the E72 uses an optical navi key (you can youtube this to see how it works), instead of the 4 way d-pad that the E71 has.

  • +1

Optical Navi Key is just one of the improvements.

    Asides from that:

600mhz ARM CPU (double speed increase from the E71, which is 369 mhz. So no more lag issues like e71)
Faster mobile broadband (10mbps HSDPA compared to E71's 3mbps)
    5 megapixel camera (E71 has 3.2 megapixels)
    3.5mm port (E71 has a 2.5mm port)
    Compass (E71 has none)
    Accelerometer (E71 has none)
Flashlight feature (There is an application for e71 that does this, but otherwise it's not a native feature)
250 mb internal memory (double from 128mb)
    640 x 320 video recording (doubled from 320 x 240) but you're still stuck with 15 frames per sec.
MicroUSB charging - E71 has none.

So yeah, big list of new features. Worth it? Probably, as long as you can afford the price tag.

    • +1

Good reply. yes, the high speed mobile broadband would be a big plus…but I thought only Telstra NextG suppoted HSDPA….i.e if you go with "3" you wouldn't get faster speeds anyway.

but wtf…2.5mm jack…how are you supposed to listen to music or video? that's crap.
You'd need to buy an adapter to 3.5…how silly.

the faster processer, better camera, video recording, charging are all pretty convincing arguments.

You've justified the E72 having better features…but still i don't think an extra $432 is worth it.

  • Any suggestion for vodafone user trying to jump across to 3 as far as discount to get me across with this E71 29cap???

  • can you buy the phone outright and for how much?

  • E71 is $449 outright, from AllPhones
    http://www.allphones.com.au/showcase/nokia_detail.asp?code=1…

I don't recommend buying it outright though… it is comparatively poor value against the E72, which can be bought outright for $539.

See my comment about the E72 a few posts up.

    • i think i will save up for the E72
the guys at work are all getting them, so if 50 or so get them, i will see if they are happy or not, then i will make the move.

  • I have been watching it for couple months now, waited patiently for E72 to come out. Just got the E71 ordered today! Thanks for the $100 online credit!! Pretty good value for such a nice phone, even it’s been superseded by the new model.

    • What can you do with the $100 online credit? buy games? and sign up to internet packs? or is it strictly for calls and sms which has a set period before the credit expires?

  • $100 credit is not valid with this phone.

Works with others on the $29 plan just not this.

  • the $100 credit not working for me too

  • hei guys, my $64 cashback got cancelled but i didnt use the voucher code and everyrthing
    any thoughts?
did you all got your cashback?
