    • Still in stock. Apparently they have sourced a new supplier.

      • I stand corrected :)

It was showing as sold out when I was looking at the site before though.

  • is this grey import ? just by the model number, it looks like it…

Maybe you missed the part that said "Hong Kong Version"

      • I'll edit that in now.

I'm going to wait for the G5

Hmmmmmm………I always wonder how to make an automatic scripted reply on OzB.

      • +3

        Heard the G6 was better.

      • -2

I wondered if 'taking the mickey' in a subtle way would be noticed.

    • -1

correct. no stand out new features on this g4, just improvements but not innovations

      • +4

Thanks i will wait on the g7

Well you forgot the big standout (BAD!) feature - the snapdragon 808 chip that they elected to go with rather than the 810 or something else.

From what I can gather reading various benchmarks: you won't notice a performance drop in low resource using tasks (browsing, email, facecrack etc.) however there is a difference for 3D performance in games.

LG is on a media blitz in an attempt to overlook this little nugget (meaning a controversial, possibly poor design decision)

      • Pretty much. Just an improved G3.

  • For those wondering about T-Dimension, my first (and only) experience with them was positive: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/194701#comment-2759439

  • I bought my G3 from T-Dimension and had no problems but if you like to flash ROM's make sure you get a model which people make roms for. I have the f400k (Korean) and only a few roms are available.

  • What are people thoughts on the LG G4?

    • -3

I would avoid it myself but that's just me (it's not large enough) but if I was looking for a 5.5" phone I'd still likely avoid it due to the type of CPU used although it should be pointed out you will likely not notice this other than 3D games.

While the S6 Exynos chip is noticeably faster than the G4, I think there's a misconception that the G4 CPU slow. It's a brand new phone, with very capable CPU, it'll run anything with no lag. Many reviews have pointed out that the user experience with the G4 has been very smooth across all tasks.

        • Some have reported some laggy hic ups. :-(

        • OK. I guess you mean anything other than benchmarks though right? Because as has been pointed out many times the CPU is a poor choice if you want comparable performance to a SGS6.

          http://blog.gsmarena.com/lg-g4-performance-benchmark-results…

But go ahead if you really like the phone but kindly stop misinforming people.

        • @Diji1: Lol, I clearly said the S6 was faster. But real world performance and benchmarks aren't the same thing, and just because its slower on a benchmark, doesn't mean it'll lag. You have to remember most apps are designed to run on the average phone.

However, here's a fairly indepth video that goes through a spec comparison through benchmarks, as well as real life performance (including 3d gaming): https://youtu.be/ZpsO7Sk6w9E?t=341

best camera on any smartphone atm according to Marquees

  • I wasn't gonna buy the G4 for a couple of months, but couldn't resist the pricing. Damn you OP.

  • Someone help me decide between LG G4 and Samsung Galaxy S6

      G4 imho

    • +4

S6 if you want a slightly better screen (the AMOLED screen is brighter), faster CPU, and a very good camera.

G4 if you want removable storage/battery, slightly bigger screen (and hence bigger phone), slightly better camera (though the mic is shit, so not the best for video).

Battery life is about the same for both (based of a few different reviews, that have given mixed results).

Just made this decision, my wife's G3 died under warranty and Kogan gave us a voucher
      -> went with the S6
-> one big factor was that Kogan doesn't have the G4 yet!
-> but even so, the camera is a pivot point for my wife, and it sounds like the S6 camera just edges out the G4 - although this may be dependant on getting a S6 with the Sony sensor (vs the Samsung one). Double tap on the home screen to bring up the camera is also a good thing
-> main concern with the S6 seems to be the battery life, but one report is that turning off Google Now dramatically improves that. I've still ordered a battery case anyway. My wife is used to that concept, she'd toting her old iPhone4 at the moment in a battery case.
-> another issue is that the S6 is very slippery. Battery case should fix that as well (albeit at some considerable cosmetic cost)
-> a bit concerned the G3 died within about 6 months. May have just been bad luck.
-> have seen a report of memory leak/slow down issues after a few weeks with the S6. Reports this is a lollipop issue rather than S6 specific, and may be fixed with (a) 5.1 update, or (b) resetting the phone every few days or so

      • Thanks heaps for that in-depth explanation limafoxtrot :) I really appreciate it. The issue with me is that I heavily rely on Google Now and the rest of Google ecosystem (My phone needs to connect to my watch and my car). The S6 looks amazing but I feel like one small drop and the glass body will get shattered. I am also a very heavy user. I had a Huawei Mate 7 previously and the 4100mAh battery on that used to last me 1 whole day (unfortunately the screen broke and it's very expensive and pretty much impossible to fix that in Australia). The screen isn't really a massive deal breaker for me so for me both the S6 and the G4 would be on par. The most important thing for me would be battery life and a fast CPU. Does anyone have any feedback on the bloatware on the 2 phones ? Thanks :)

        • The S6 Gorilla Glass 4 seems to be very impact resistant - which may be just as well given how slippery it is. Here's just one of several drop tests on youtube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpsyGweP5so

For the S6, it sounds like you might need a battery case (or lots of chargers in various places) if you use Google Now a lot…

  • AMOLED is not better it's better in some situations. It's not better for image and video quality for many people as it looks artificial so if you value this I would suggest IPS or some LCD screens.

Myself I would buy the SGS6 over the LG G4 just because G4 CPU may be noticeably slower (unless there was a significant discount on price.) Other reasons to prefer Samsung are third party accessory choice and third party roms. Although from what I read stock LG Android is quite nice, not loaded with crud like Sammie.

    • Think of it like this you have 2 computers 1 has a faster cpu than the other but the faster cpu has a 10 programs opening on startup and the slower one has 1 or 2 programs at startup even though it has a slower cpu it will load faster

    • The G4 is proper rgb lcd not crappy pen tile. In any case amoled is prob better in video colours but this is slot sharper in text. It's now 20% brighter. As if it wasn't already!

  • Price is heading in the right direction, only $250 to go and I'll get one to replace my note 4. :P

  • I came fron SGS2, 3 and 4 to LG G3. Didn't like it at first for the lack of custom ROM compare to Sammy divices. I love the look os SGS6, and dislike LG G4 for its increased in physical size. But I will still buy the G4 for the removable battery & microSD card

  • i was going to pull the trigger…. LG G4 is an awesome phone with likely the best smartphone camera right now. but noticed its unrootable…….. and i can't deal with the LG bloat software.

  • Is the LG G4 charger Australian (AS/NZS 3112, Type I)?

    • +1

It's a hong kong based charger, but they provide an adapter free of charge (you have to choose the "AUS type" in the drop down box.

The adapter is probably a very basic/cheap adapter. I personally intend to keep using my charger from my current phone (same micro USB connection).

      • If you do this, make sure the current charger is at least a 1.8amp to 2.1 amp charger. If the phone is about 2 years old, it will probably have come with a 1.2amp one, and will charge much more slowly than using an adaptor with the stock one.

  • What's the difference with h815 and h815t

    • +1

H815t model has additional 2300 frequency band that use by Optus for new 4G+. Other than that, everything is the same as both model have 700 band that use by Telstra.
