      • We need a better way to do this neil. Would a google spreadsheet form work better? That way you input your name and referral code/url and then we can see the spreadsheet without having anyone trying to edit the spreadsheet and abusing it.

        • Google Spreadsheet would be neater but not sure if it logs changes. Yes, some automated page would be good as it would solve having these referral pages.

Of course companies could always just use referral links (instead of codes) and then we can add them to our automated system. Hint, hint, Me Bank.

        • @neil: Yeah, definitely worth emailing them over.

I just feel bad about the work the mods have to do whenever something like this happens. Oh well.

      • We almost need an automated page for wiki entries, so people don't need to know the formatting.

If you just had to be signed in, and enter your code, then it would automatically insert the line of text for you. Including (like some have done) your username being linked to your account.

Safe to assume we are way above 2000 ?

    We missed out ?!

  • I could get into the editing page at 7am. Too many nocturnal ozbargainers

  • Unless someone has used my account number, I still have 10 remains. Cheers

  • +1

Didn't even get an email confirming my application.
Thought that was weird? Same for others?
Edit: It finally came.. I need more Oz-patience.

  • REFER-A-FRIEND
    is NOW Closed :(

    • I may have just got in then!

    • Atleast that confirms that ME BANK will pay all those who have got in time.

      • How do you know that?

  • +8

    Morning, It’s Scott from ME.

You are right – we hit our 2,000 referrals overnight! Sorry to disappoint but due to high demand the offer is now officially closed.

Thanks to all who have applied, and if you have any questions, chuck them in the comments below.

    Thanks, Scott

    • +3

So does that mean some people who signed up early this morning may well have missed out if they were processed after the 2000th referral?

      • +1

You would hope so! They only closed it at 9.40am EST .. they could have closed it a lot earlier than that.

        • +1

Exactly, everyone who joined prior to the notice posted on their website should be honored!

        • +1

Have many times have we seen deals where people were able to place orders well in excess of the stock that was available for sale, only to find out later they missed out via a cancellation email. Same scenario here, they may well have gone well over their quota and only removed the deal at their earliest convenience.

        • +1

          @unity1:

We won't get a cancellation email.. we'll be left with a crappy bank a/c.

Edit: if the deal isn't honoured, I will definitely be cancelling the a/c.

        • @bohn: That's true, but I'm just saying that many deals just don't end automatically when they are out of stock or reached their quota, as it was in this case. There will always be those that missed out and feel dejected.

      • Hi there, we're just processing applications and will communicate with the successful applicants via email over the next coming days.

If you have any questions about your application specifically you can give us a call on 13 15 63. Thanks, Scott

        • +1

The question is are you processing applications in chronological order?

        • +7

The questions are: if you will honour the applications made up until the official closing - why won't you say so?
If you will only honour 2000 (which according to you, was hit sometime overnight), why did you allow people to register up until 9.40am?

Edit: Also, don't bother saying 'if you have any questions, chuck them in the comments below' if you don't plan to address any of them.

        • -1

          @bohn:

Because banks always have fine print. If 4,000 people registered, they're not going to tell you not to open an account just because 2,000 have already signed up… would you?

Plus, it was overnight, cut them some slack.

    • +4

I called your helpline this morning 07:44 AM (ACST) and s/w Sam, per him the campaign tracker showed only 250 accounts has been opened so far and I was good to go to open the account for referral $100 and that's why I hit the submit application while he was on call. Not sure why I was told this otherwise i would have never opened that account. Not happy with false information provided.

      • +1

This needs clarification from Scott !

    • Hi Scott,

I signed up yesterday, but just had a call from customer service that because my ID couldn't be verified automatically, I'd have to go into AusPost to do it. I explained the situation that because I'm moving this weekend, I'd put my new address in as the address (to make sure I'd get the mail, save hassle of changing address right after joining), but all of my ID is still at my old/current address. She said I'd probably still run into issues getting the ID verified at AusPost, so suggested I withdraw that application and just do another one using the current address, because a submitted application couldn't be altered. But now I go back and see that the offer is over.

Anything you can do in this kind of situation? I can provide my application reference number if required.

      Cheers

    • +4

how we will know if we will get the 100$ or no?

    • +1

      Thanks Scott,

I see on your page the offer is closed. That's great and clears any misunderstanding.

Now, does that mean everyone who joined prior to this notice will be honored ? Because how on earth we were supposed to know that 2000 was reached overnight ?

    • Hi Scott, I've applied yesterday through the offer but I chose to verify the identity in Australia Post. I am going to AusPost this afternoon to get the ID-ed. Does that mean I will still get the offer?

      • +1

i am not scott, but definitely you are eligible for this offer.

        • Thanks Viki.

      • +3

I just spoke to MEbank and I am in a similar position as you. Unfortunately they said they will only give out the $100 to those who successfully ID themselves before 10am this morning and not just submitted the application. I withdraw my application as a result of that.

        • Same here, also withdrew mine.

        • This is disappointing. Are there any terms and conditions there that stated otherwise?

        • Ok time to withdraw too then..
          Thanks for that info!

        • +2

Hold up illumination, apparently comments below from another ME employee have said that accounts who verify their IDs over the weekend are still eligible. Too late for me, but maybe you still have a shot!

    • +2

Scott, is there any way to know if our referral codes were accepted? There was no confirmation on sign up.

      • +2

I am not Scott but I spoke to MEbank just now. They actually told me the promo code that they can see tagged with my application.

        • Thanks bargainhunter. So they only confirmed that they could see the code but not that that the code was actually accepted?
Also, you're talking about the referral code right? Because I thought the promo code was a separate thing?

        • @mondoh:

To check whether the promo code is accepted or not, they need to check whether the promo code/account number is eligible or not. That's what I was told. Now since the promo code/account number that I used to open a NEW account was actually created prior to 03/06, I would assume both are eligible to receive $100 bonus.
Looks like a mixed bag of surprise is still to be seen in 30days+ time ..

I thought the following from original post description/T&C means promo code= account number

"Include the referrer’s ME ETA account number in the promotional code field"

        • @bargainhunter98: Thanks bargainhunter. Luckily I inputted the code in both the promo code and referral code fields.

    • +1

Hi Scott, I'm Scott too. High 5 :D

Could you confirm whether we will receive any confirmations about how many people, if any, have used our referral code? Could you also clarify whether people who have saved the application (up to the point of ID verification) but have not been able to 100% verify their identity yet, still be eligible for this promotion?

      Cheers

    • Hi Scott,

My friend applied yesterday, but she couldn't verify online and had to verify at Australia Post outlet, so is she still eligible on the promotion? Thanks.

    • Is this what they mean by collective bargaining?

  • Sold out, please update this post as expired :( Dam you gotta be quick around here.

    • +2

      how do you know?

      • +2

The link clearly says that the refer a friend offer is now closed.

  • +2

I have spoken with David from Me Bank who has confirmed that if the application was received before the promotion was taken off (10:30am this morning) and you verify the ID even over weekend, you are still eligible.

    Happy Days!!

  • +3

what a success for MeBank, they should run more of deals like this to attract more customer! :-)

  • not sure if I opened my account before they it reach the limit, but I opened around 7.30 last night, and got the confirmation email, also I was able to login to internet banking last night.
others are talking about verifying ID, what is that? I didn't get any mail or message about verifying ID.
BTW, I used Shaun89's account number, but not able to send a pm or unable to update the wiki.

  • I used one of the numbers in the wiki but forgot to message them. Will they still get their 100 if they don't do 3 $10 transactions?

    • +3

Only the new account holder needs to make the 3 $10 transactions.

  • People that I have referred have yet to get their log in details, is this the same for most people?

    • +1

I just got mine a couple of minutes ago.

    • Got mine within half an hour or so last night.

    • One of my friend hasn't received her log-in details either. She only received a confirmation email saying her application has been submitted and is being processed, and that they'll send her the Debit MasterCard once it's complete.

  • not sure how long the access code takes to arrive though (on sms)
    Edit: just came through.

  • People who verified ID at the Post office, did you receive any sort of confirmation ?

I haven't received any emails whatsoever from ME bank :(

  • damn how come this ended so quickly?

    • +1

Because it was free money and only available to the first 2000 people.

  • So, I've received an email, telling me account has been created…

    Questions:
    1. Is there a minimum deposit to qualify for 5% payWave rebates?
    2. What's the bsb? Can't seem to find it in the account page. Website is not very good.

    Thanks.

    • +1

      BSB: 944300

    • For future reference if you need a BSB you can Google "(bank name)" + "bsb number" and it should be up there somewhere or use the bsbnumbers, really handy.

    • No min deposit for cashback
Cashback is for payments < $100

  • I applied last night around 6.30pm. Called them today and the girl told me that if I wait til my ID is verified on the weekend, I won't be eligible as it's not when I applied but when they received the complete application :(

  • +8

I'm a little annoyed that I seem to have used a promo code/account number that was created that same day… (so no $100 for me) -
The account numbers seem to be sequential, or at least created in ascending order. When I finally had my account created it started in 01570, and so did the account number I used in the promo field. I took a look, and about 8 people look to have posted their details on the wiki for others to use, when they most likely created their account as part of the promo. Do people not read, or just not give a sh*t that they are screwing other people over?

    • +2

That really sucks. Feel bad for you.

    • +4

"Do people not read, or just not give a sh*t …"

I suspect the explanation is even simpler than that UNO; some peeps are just as dumb as dog sh*t.

      • +2

Part greed, part laziness, part stupidity; the trifecta. They must have wanted the $100 for referral and the $100 for being a new customer. If they had any common sense, they would realise that you cannot simultaneously be a new and existing customer.

    • +2

I don't think you're alone, that's why I used a referral that had been up for a while

      • +2

That's why I liked it (and I did then did it too) when I saw someone put "Account made before June 3rd" on his wiki entry, reassuring for the new customer.

        • +1

          Glad you liked it :D

Unfortunately, I didn't receive anymore PMs after that haha!

    • I'm in the same boat as you. At the time I remember being perplexed: were there really 10+ pages of existing customers of mebank (over 500 customers)?!. I was hoping I was underestimating the ozbargain userbase, or underestimating how popular mebank was.

  • Flyer says open the account by 7th June yet the promo has closed.

It's the quick and the dead around here.

  • I received my Me Bank card today and activated No idea if im withing the 2000 limit.

    • +1

make three $10 transactions on paypass and you should have your $100 ;)

  • +1

got my card today too just waiting to deposit money into it

    • I transferred money once I got the confirmation so that when my card arrives; I can spend 3 x $10 right away :)

  • Do the 3 purchases have to be paypass, or can they just be online as well?

    • +3

I'm not sure of the technical requirements in this respect raver, but personally I'm going to do three 'physical' paypass transactions of over $10, and all at different places (albeit during the same 'shopping spree') and keep the receipts until I see the 100 clams in the account. That way I can be reasonably assured that the referrer will also have gotten their $100.

      • +1

I called them up and they said it just has to be $10 transactions of any kind, and you'll get $100 almost immediately afterwards.

From his wording, might mean you can get the money just by transferring to your other accounts.

Worth a try, but I'm almost done on my 3 transactions now so yeah.

        • +2

Given the 5% cash-back, I can't see any reason not to make 'proper' transactions (i.e. petrol, groceries, etc.). I actually plan to use this ME card from now on, for anything paywavable. Five percent is heaps better than even the best FF/points-rewards you can get by paying with a credit card.

        • Is it 3 transactions of at least $10 each (i.e. totalling $30), or is it 3 transactions amounting to $10 in total?

        • @jellyqueen123: 'make 3 purchases of a minimum of $10 within 30 days'. i read that as each purchase being a minimum of $10, but why risk it?

  • It's funny that their app looks better than their standard banking site!

  • not a good experience so far.
received the card, tried to activate online. online services down. called the number on the card (automated system) - same issue.
Called to speak to an operator, waited 15mins, then it was answered but no one was talking to me. I could hear tapping on keyboards, voices, and coughing… I tried to get someone's attention for a couple of minutes and then just gave up.

      • -2

        moar

        • flights on sale to Bali soon, bogans. get your filthy cash ready.

  • +2

I applied late on 03/06 and got a confirmation email after midnight 04/06 to say account is open. Sent ME bank a message from online banking asking for confirmation as to whether I made it within the 2000, and got a reply on 08/06 saying

We will communicate with successful applicants by email over the coming days to confirm that they will receive the offer subject to fulfilling the conditions of three or more transactions of more than $10 in the first 30 days after account opening.

No further communication received to date.

  • +1

Just called them up, they are 'getting the list of 2000 successful applicants together'.. 'the successful applicants will be sent out an email within one to two weeks (from today) to let them know they will receive the $100'

    • +2

1-2 weeks? So people have 30 days from creating the a/c to make the 3 x $10 transactions to be eligible for the $100, but they won't know if they are eligible for close to 3 weeks after creating the account?

      Hee hee hee.

Let's cut Members Equity some slack guys.. I mean they only re-branded as a Bank in 2009. It's not like they're part of the Big 4 or anything.

      • +1

going off speaking to her and the wording she used the email is not to tell you you are eligible, it is to tell you that you are successful and that you will receive the $100. There may be an eligibility coming in the next couple of days but i did not ask about this so someone else may need to confirm this (i wasn't ringing up about the referral offer at the time)

        • But there won't necessarily be 2000 successful people. There should be 2000 eligible applicants who meet the first criteria; not all of them will necessarily follow through with the spending steps necessary to claim the $100. And there is no way to know a complete list of people who will definitely receive $100 until at least 30 days after the last eligible account is opened (4 July 2015 by my reckoning).

        • The offer was conditional upon 3 successful paypass transactions of $10 each. That means, you get the $100 once those conditions have been met.
The only thing up in the air is eligibility.

To be told that you are successful in one to two weeks… what does this mean? As I just said, success relates to the completion of the conditions, and in one to two weeks, the 30 days from account creation is not up!

They came up with a good idea, but it appears they didn't think as to how it would be carried out.

        • @quop: i think went she mentioned the 2000 successful applicants she's meant successful applicants that are eligible to receive the $100 (meet the first criteria as you said) and then when she later said about the email in 1 to 2 weeks she was referring to the first lot of people who have successfully done the 3x $10 transactions and will be receiving the $100 so far.. id imagine then anyone who does the 3 transactions between that first lot of emails and the end of the 30 days would get their email once completed.

        • @bohn: by the way she was only passing on what she had been told and it could have been a case of that wasn't her department seeing as i was ringing about something else and she as miscommunicated the information and is why i mentioned its probably best if some else confirms what i said first
