        OPs spelling mitsake

  • How is the battery life for this compared to the LG G2, my G2 seems to die so quickly now. It can't even last me a day anymore.

    • havnt got a LG G2 but used to have an Galaxy S4
It obviously depends on how you use the phone, but overall i have found it lasts longer than my S4 did.
The S6 also has some decent battery saving options too - with extreme battery saving conserving a lot when your phone gets really low.

      • +1

My Note 4 I have found using battery saving actually uses more power. I get typically around 6 hours screen on time over 2 days without battery saving mode. Samsung the first phone I've used where I found this occurrence, and after speaking with some other users they have had similar experience.

        • How are you getting 6hrs? I get 3hrs and 30min maximum :( I don't even play games…

        • @clse945111:

How many days is that over, and how bright do you have the screen at? There's so many factors though that can effect your on screen time. Like using the gps will drain your battery faster, and having brightness high. I usually have my screen brightness low, if I turn it up when I am outside I probably only get around 4.5 hours. And I only mainly do light tasks such as browsing, txting, typical phone stuff. I also turn off location settings, if you leave that on it'll eat your battery a lot faster.

        • +3

@clse945111: You definitely have something eating your power like mad.

Go to settings -> power management -> battery usage (apologies if it's in a different area on your device) and check what is draining so much power. Then disable (meaning uninstall, set options, freeze, hibernate or disable from starting)

Some apps are poorly written or otherwise cause high power usage: the official Facebook app is one notorious battery hog (in order to better collect your datas hehe).

After that you can further disable or set as and if you need them:

Sync - either disable all or services you don't use.
Set screen brightness to a lower value or select automatic brightness (most people use automatic).
          GPS,
          WiFi,
4G -> 3G -> 2G possibly but only if data is not important which I doubt. Some people notice very little difference between 4G and 3G in real usage situations, 4G uses a lot more power.

Many devices feature power saving modes to automate management of these functions eg. Stamina Mode on Xperia devices.

Additionally there are various apps to manage power settings automatically such as Greenify or Tasker.

And finally Android does seem to "degrade" over time kinda like consumer versions of Windows prior to Windows Vista. This can manifest itself in unexplained behaviours including battery draining. Unfortunately the only way that I know to fix this is to reset or replace the phones ROM (Android).

Cant speak for the LG but I jsut came from an S4 to an S6.

Before I would be constantly charging the S4 and rarely get through 8 hours due to using it on the bus in the way into work.

Now I could probably get through the whole day and have maybe 10-20% at the end before putting it on charge overnight.

Add to that that I would happily put the alarm on the phone when its at 20%, not charging and know it will wake me in the morning which I would never have relied upon with the S4.

Added to that as well is the fast charging which is crazy fast. Literally half an hour gives you a good portion of the charging done.

      • Batteries degrade over time. Your S4 battery was most likely dying which is why your battery life was so bad. It's not a fair comparison to compare a phone that's two generations old to a brand new phone unless you have tried replacing your S4 battery with a new genuine battery

        • Correct. Also actions such as which apps (and versions for the same app) are installed etc. can influence battery life. As well as human memory being very unreliable (we recall what supports our belief).

        • I would certainly agree that its not an ideal comparison but I'm a fairly heavy user and there was no way I could get a day out of the S4 straight out of the box.

        • @Diji1:

My new S6 is a mirror of my S4 so the apps are identical.

The battery in the S4 was old, but I would be charging it 3/4 times a day. Even out of the box I couldnt get through to 7pm.

You sound like you need a dock for your bedroom.

Yeah I didn't think a dick was a big deal either, now I feel uncivilised without it :D

        • +2

Typo (mistyped 'i' instead of 'o') in your second sentence made me LOL. It even made sense :)

        • @Manh: Oh boy, oopsies :p

      • My S4 round a year old and the battery life is great. Apps like Juice Defender and having power saving mode turned on helps tonnes. Ironically my battery bar percentage goes up if I don't use it, leave phone at 9% overnight it is at 15% which is most likely the work of Juice Defender ;)

  • Im not the slightest bit surprised that the pricer has dropped from its once lofty price of $999. Yes i know this is a grey import but dont expect people to pay 1K for a phone that isnt the iphone. Samsung just doesnt have that many diehard fans(this is from someone who has had all their phones from the S2). I reckon $750 should have been the launch price. Then they wonder why they are not selling that many of the S5(when launched) and S6. Lower the price and they will get more out the door. That is what has always worked for them in the past.

    • +4

I agree with you that $999 is probably too high for the S6 to see mass take-up among consumers. However, I think it's a sound business strategy. If you owned a business, you're goal would be to maximise the profit you can earn from each individual consumer.

Some people with lots of money would be willing to pay $1000 for an S6, whereas those with less money may only be willing to pay $700. If you charge say $800 you'll miss out on the second sale entirely and miss out on a potential $200 extra you could have earned from the first customer.

How can you resolve this problem? Charge different prices over time. Start by charging $999 - you'll get the first customer's sale straight away and make lots of money off it. Then over time reduce the price to capture the sales of those with a lower willingness to pay. Makes sense.

      • Unless ofcoz you lost that market to another manufacturer in the mean time. especially the one that released a newer phone same or better specs before you dropped your price. I'd also go so far as to say that very few samsung buyers would probably pay $999.Samsungs marker is possibly between 500-750. Which has also meant that the S6 on plans is also priced higher than other phones.

        • +1

I think you misunderstood. Samsung cares about maximising profit, not sales numbers. Even if very few people are willing to pay $999 it may still make sense to charge that much. Here is an article that explains the concept: http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/CamelsandRubberDuckie…

        • @nexus4:

Is there any real new competition for S6 this year. M9 is 'relatively old', seems like theyve dropped it to match the release of LG G4.

    • +1

"Samsung just doesnt have that many diehard fans."

Um aren't they the number 1 selling Android brand - how can they not have many fans LEL.

"That is what has always worked for them in the past."

So which Android brand was it that was more expensive than Samsung at the flagship end of the market exactly? I seem to recall Sammie being rather highly priced compared to other flagship devices.

      • -1

He's appealing to most of the mob on here…

Samsung is the android brand for the masses. Typically, tech heads don't seem to buy them, they get LGs, Asus or Nexus? iFags get iPhones.

    • -2

Exactly, these high starting prices encourage people to go on plans and to look into other options around that price bracket. The $999 starting price is also attributable to the deprecating Australia dollar and Samsungs greed led by their lacklustre sales of the S5 last year.

  • Actually awesome, $710 for the Australian version of the S6.

  • s6 or g4 that has been my constant struggle

    • I thought it shouldn't be a tough choice. I'd personally prefer the G4.

    • S6 gives you AMOLED screen, if you like that.
      Else I'd prefer the G4

    • The new S6 price does make it harder to choose. I'm still edging towards G4, though, for it's removable micro SD. Plastic vs metal/glass doesn't affect my decision since I'll be putting the phone in a silicone casing anyways.

Removable micro SD is important for me because of the amount of audio/video podcasts I go through a week and I don't want all that writing/deleting to be on the phone's flash memory and deteriating it's lifespan.

      • +1

Heh I've never heard of someone's phone memory failing before though I suppose how could you know in any case, you included.

I'd be a lot more worried about the battery and whether that is replaceable since AFAIK current batteries have around 2000 discharge cycles before they start to significantly degrade.

However 2000 cycles is a LOT … even when it's a complete cycle which most people do not go through.

        • 2000 cycles? Another reason for me to upgrade this year from my Samsung S2 hehe :)

    • +1

      G4 for sure

    • S6 has faster SOC than G4.

      • The S6 Has more better features over the G4 Than the G4 Has over Samsung G6

  • Possible pricematch @ officeworks if this is Aussie stock?

    • It's still a grey import, just has an (LATAM, Singapore, India, Australia) Version Num so probably not.

dwi is not too enthusiastic about honouring their warranties according to the checkout

  • Gee phones are expensive these days!
    I mean… $700!

    • Yeah $700 is a lot hence the increase in phone on plans and samsungs declining revenues.

  • Seems like a good price, but due to my past experience with DWI and warranty issues, I will avoid them in this instance and wait few more months till they drop in price and purchase on my 28 degrees credit card and apply shoppers protecting, so when it drops in price within another 6 months I'll get refunded difference

    • Good chance this will be around the $700 mark come Xmas time. The smart ones on here would buy this now at the local price and claim the $300 difference back (assuming price drops to $700) 6 months later. So effectively for the same price you are getting the same phone, but local stock and local warranty.

  • Has anybody else received a phone from DWI that was opened? I got the LG G3 and not only was it opened but the back cover was scratched. Not happy paying for a new phone and effectively getting second hand. Not sure if I would buy from them again.

  • ebay groupbuy is currently selling for $722 http://groupbuy.ebay.com.au/deal?itemId=141676905531

  • Can anyone vouch for DWI? Anyone bought phones/anything of good/untampered quality from there? About to buy the s6 but reviews seem doubtful..
