Works on seagate 1tb portable HD and this one despite what the T&Cs say witch makes it $67.94 which is slightly cheaper than the $69 officeworks deal I had posted.

    • What is the second one? There is no model number or anything.

Have they increased the prices by 20% to offset any discounts?

    • I'd be guessing, but you might be onto something there! ;)

    • It's not that they're increasing prices by 20%, they're taking the 'normal 20% RRP' off, then giving 14% discount.

They really need to state that the X% off is discounted from RRP, not their previous price.

    • Doesn't look to be (a 20% increase) on everything … click
All DSE price changes as of June 6 compared to June 8.

How did we end up getting to this stage where shops spend more time in the year on 'sale' than it is being not on sale.

    • +2

Because people spend more money when they think they're spending less, and retailers have realized that consumers aren't very quick to wake up to all the nonsense even when you start drowning them in it.

      • +1

I think it's also a way to surreptitiously raise prices. I've seen my local Coles keep things on almost-continuous "special" for a year, while quietly raising the "normal" price. People forget what the "normal" price was.

  • I tried using the code to get 14% Less DSE Promo's in my E-mail but it didn't work.

  • looking for a new monitor at the moment, mostly for gaming

    anyone know anything about this

    can't find any reviews anywhere

    • its only 30hz..monitor
wont be good for decent games

      • What makes you think it is only 30Hz? Seems pretty strange anyone would make a monitor with such a low refresh rate these days, apart from maybe 4k modes. I did a quick search and there is no such model, but close model numbered monitors are IPS type screens at 60Hz.

Most things is pretty accurate if i don't even need to scroll on my phone through the exclusions….

  • The important part "limited to 600 customers"

    • +2

does this include people who have seen the movie "300" twice?

    • +1

I'm almost certain that's just more nonsense designed to create a sense of urgency. I'm not saying that a retailer would never work in a restriction like that because they obviously do on occasion but it's entirely incompatible with the new Dick Smith marketing strategy which is all about getting as many people as possible to spend money on what they perceive to be "bargains", not just 600. Otherwise why bother with the perpetual sales?

Those silly home shopping network segments do the same sort of thing when they say "if you call in the next 10 minutes you'll get a free set of steak knives" or whatever. The truth is that most of the time it doesn't actually matter when you call; you'll still get the knives if you ask for them.

      • Limits are easy to apply on websites in an automated fashion. Placing limits makes sense. It entices people not to wait when making their purchase, so they don't "miss out".

        • Placing a pretend limit also makes sense as it achieves exactly the same thing, so long as it is not obvious that it's not being enforced.

On the countless previous occasions that we've seen "limited to 300 customers" advertisements I've never seen a single person complain that the coupon had stopped working, even late in the day.

And these emails go out to just about everyone who has ever put through an order with DS online.

        • @cainn:

How do you know they're not enforced? Have you seen 300 people confirm a purchase?

        • @TailsK:
Have u seen anyone complaining of purchase being denied?

What business would be stupid enough to deny a purchase?

        • @TailsK:

Like I said there have been many "limited to 300 customers" coupons posted here, many in the the morning, with people still confirming discounted purchases late into the night.

Given that Dick Smith have recently cited significant growth in online sales as being partly responsible for their return to profitability I think it's quite a stretch to suggest that they make only a few hundred sales after handing out coupons to countless email subscribers which are then subsequently posted on multiple bargain-watch sites.

If I had seen even one person complain, ever, that a coupon designed to last the whole day but limited to only a few hundred customers had actually stopped working before midnight then I might see things differently.

(and yes, this one is still working as well, assuming you find an eligible item, and I got it in my email at 8:01am this morning)

        • @ms:

I think you're confusing "deny a purchase" with "deny a purchase at a discounted price with reduced or little to no margins". Makes perfect sense to offer discounted items to a limited number of people. Heaps of deals posted to that affect on OzBargain.

  • most of iphone out of stock now

    • It excludes Apple anyway

  • there are 123,589 non ozbargain people out there…… what is wrong with this sick twisted individual!!!!

    • Wut?

  • We need a DS sticky, and just change the title from time to time.

  • It's like a carpet store 'closing down' sale….
    Aka when they decide to…
