IMHO you're better off getting the d3300 (newer and better features) for $399 (after cashback) and another lens.

Some JB stores may even have the d3300 with 18-55mm lens for a little bit more.

I know nothing about cameras but want a good point and click for travelling. Would you recommend something like this or something like the RX-100?

Rx100. Unless you won't be annoyed by having to carry around a dslr everywhere.

        100% agree.
RX100 if you want a very powerful compact camera, there's DSLR settings in it as well (Aperture, ISO settings, shutter speed) that cheap point and shoots don't have. A DSLR is quite big, no way could you fit it in your pocket.

Thank you, I will keep an eye out for one of those then!

      • I used to own a DSLR, sold it away and bought a Canon G15 instead. DSLR too heavy and troublesome to carry, just annoying.

    • Bought a RX100M3 last year for travels, loved using it and it worked great! Planning to eventually buy a mirrorless camera (Sony A7) but this camera seems to have a lot of potential to learn how to shoot on as well! Also remember you'll get about 10% back from tax if you're travelling overseas. Would recommend getting a RX100.
