  • I am considering this one.

  • Great price, tempted by this considering it's less than the 2 x 500gb drives I just sold :)

    • +1

Wow, you done well selling 2 x 500GB drives for more than $69.00

Wish i could find a sucker to buy my 500GB drives for more than $35.00 a pop!!

      • Not a whole lot more, got $40ea. Noticed a few lucky guys a few weeks earlier than me did a lot better.

      • For me, that's 1TB's!

        HiDef fills 1TB SO quick!

        • I have 2 NAS's for my HiDef's ;)

can you do a good deal in SSD? (may be Samsung 850 Pro or Evo) want something above 200GB

    • Also looking for a good ssd deal

    • +2

      Hi msmhw,

      Samsung 250GB 850 Evo SSD, $139 + shipping.
      Samsung 500GB 850 Evo SSD, $269 + shipping.

I will add it onto specials on our home page.

      Cheers

thanks for your reply, unfortunately not the best deal, its kind of the regular price so will keep waiting :)
        thanks anyway

        • Hi msmhw,

I do agree that the 500GB price is not that attractive, let me see what I can work out with my supplier.
As for the 250GB, I reckon it is consider a reasonable price.

          Cheers
          Francesca

        • @francesca2148:

FWIW I agree, the 250GB is a good price. Would be a steal if it was free shipping but don't do that, it'll make me feel worse having paid $110 for the 120GB version a few weeks ago :P

          @Click_It: Hey, shipping only cost $2.95 =)

  • Is this suitable for Macs or PCs?

I've had terrible issues in the past with WD and Macs.

    • +1

Should be fine once you reformat it to that Mac OS extended format

    • +4

      Hi Frood,

The WD MyPassport is suitable for Mac according to the Western Digital website - http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=1000#Tab3
For formatting the HDD to the correct format, you will need to follow the following guide - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201909
By default, the volume format should be "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", which is only readable by Mac OS devices. You can also set it to "MS-DOS File System" AKA "FAT32" which can be read by MAC OS and Windows OS.

The default format of the MyPassport should be FAT32, which can be read by MAC OS, otherwise the guide above should solve your issue.

Unfortunately I am unable to guarantee the success of this as I have not tested this myself. It is best to check with Western Digital personally.

      Cheers

  • How does this HDD compare with this one:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/197089

    • +1

      Hello there,

The WD Drive is a little smaller than the Toshiba Drive, by about 2-8mm on each side.
Both are similar in speeds, if not the same.
The Western Digital HDD does however come with password protection where the Toshiba HDD does not.

Other than that, not too many differences.

      Cheers

Looking for a good deal on the WD My Passport 2TB.

    • Hi Guys,

Unfortunately I can't do much on the 2TB model, not much in stock either.
Best I can do is $139 + Shipping.

Would you still like me to add that onto specials?

      Cheers
      Francesca

  • Thanks. $147 @ OW including delivery, so don't worry adding that to specials.

    • +4

      Hi cirah,

Had a discussion with my manager, he's ok to release the 2TB model @ 129 + shipping.
Shipping would be around 8-10 dollars.

      Would that be better?

      Cheers
      Francesca

  • Beware that these drive a proprietary connection unlike other drives which I have a standard USB connection.

    • +2

      Hi dlakers3peat,

The cable from the looks of it should not be a proprietary connection as the cable itself will work with other USB3.0 devices.

      Cheers,
      Francesca

      • +2

The USB connector is standard, the HDD inside the case is proprietary:
        http://i.stack.imgur.com/Tivkt.jpg

This won't matter for anyone looking to use this for it's intended prpose, however when portable drives are this cheap some people buy them to crack open the case and use the HDD in laptops, mini-itx devices, etc.. connected to the standard SATA connectors.

        • +1

          Hi hutsy,

          Yes you are indeed correct.
WD portable drives usually have proprietary connectors on the inside and not the standard SATA connection.
I did not take into consideration that the intended purpose may be for internal use in laptops or for other SATA compatible devices.

Thank you for clarifying that for me.

          Cheers,
          Francesca

Save yourself a trip and just get it from OP? It comes with free shipping

  • Would love to buy but won't be able to today, Is there a certain time this deal finishes tomorrow?

    • +1

      Hi missy sonia,

This deal will only last for 24 hours, will expire tomorrow noon time.
You can arrange to register an account, and add that item into your cart. It should stay there until you are ready to pay.

Any issues, please let me know =)

      Cheers
      Francesca

      • I went back to my cart and the hard drive is now $89+shipping.
Any chance the $69 price will be back?

  • perhaps a good buy, for those wanting to upgrade your XB1 storage?

    • +1

      Hi cheapgeek,

It is compatible with the Xbox One!
You will of course need to format the drive before usage (done through the XB1 interface).
The RPM of the MyPassport should be the same as the built-in HDD in the XB1 at 5400RPM.
And the USB3.0 connection will allow for good installation/transfer speeds.

      Cheers,
      Francesca

  • Thanks OP, got one.

    • Thank you justcallmeboss =)

  • Haven't owned one of these but have had bad experiences with WD drive software in the past, which is why I usually go for an elements drive.

Do these drives come encrypted? There seem to be user 2 manuals on the WD site, one for encrypted, one unencrypted.

    Encrypted drives: http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705098.pdf
    Unencrypted drives: http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705099.pdf

That's a lot of pages for something that should be as simple as plug and copy.

I understand if you use them without encryption, there's a virtual CD (which can be disbled). I imagine that's similar to the IronKeys I use at work.

Anyone got any experience with these that they can share?

    • Hi syousef,

These drives do come with Encryption.
The Part number we are selling is -
      WDBZFP0010BWT

The models that do not come with encryption are -
      WDBLNP5000Axx
      WDBJNZ0010Bxx
      WDBBUZ0020Bxx

      Cheers,
      Francesca
