its 2015 and most smartphone have fullhd screen common pc makers still on standard hd

    • +4

More to do with real estate. There are no 15 inch smartphone screens.

      • what about QHD 10 inch tablet and around 13 inch laptop…

    • Would have got it if it was .

      • +3

i bought the FHD version (w/i7-4710HQ) which cost about $790

    • +2

What kind of argument is that? It's easier/cheaper to have a HD 4" screen than a HD 12" screen or a HD TV screen.

      • +3

its not about cheap or expensive.. its about moving up… 4k is already here… i bought 1366x768 screen laptop 8 years go..

        • +7

What's your point? Very few smartphones have 4k. + there are a few laptops with 4k it's just that right now it's pretty niche as most people prefer the longer battery life as 4k kills the runtime of the battery. Wait for technology to improve before wasting money on a 4k, overpriced, 2015 device with substandard battery life.

@BlazinPast: point is atleast make fhd standard… looks like people do not care at all…

    • +4

I've questioned this myself many times, until I realised that this is actually an unfair comparison.
This is not a flagship laptop. Pay ~$1k+ for a flagship laptop and you'll get it with Full HD.
You're paying about the same price (or less) for a pretty good computer as you would for a flagship phone.

    • More resolution means more burden for the display card. I strongly believe HD is perfect for mid-low range graphic cards especially users that would like to run performance game at native resolution

l have this laptop, if you want a desktop only laptop that has a massive amount of power then this is for you otherwise this not for you. Two hour battery life doesnt make it through a class

    • is it noisey?

      • It is a bit noisy

  • Great deal after 20%off,at least the original price is not jacked up.

No optical drive? Bit of a shame, at this price point I don't think many serious users would be looking & so your average Jo user would be looking for at least a DVD drive.

Kogan has full HD for under $500 but it only has atom processor. I don't think it unreasonable to start seeing full HD laptops with an i series cpu for under $800. My acer i5 cost me $500 with 5th gen i5, so I don't see why we aren't seeing cheap laptops with decent processors and full hd.

    better deal here

$767.48 delivered including cashrewards gets you

    i7-4710HQ
    FHD Touchscreen
    2GB AMD Radeon R9 M265X
    DVD

    • Is this actually a good deal for a refurb? It's tempting, but I feel like I've seen so many variations I get confused what things should cost… EDIT: ahh, just went out of stock! I snoozed and lost!

I just want a good browsing/office machine, but I want a good screen too: seems so hard to get those two simple thingsa combined for a good price! Now wondering if they might have more stock or if I should consider OPs deal…

refurbished laptops are perfectly fine. they come with the same 1 year manufacturer's warranty

you can still get it from OO's graysonline subsidiary —> for $974 + $29.95 delivery

cashrewards has 5.5% off with graysonline. sometimes grays has a free delivery promo too

but yeah definitely not as good as the ebay deal.

Ouch, $240 more… thanks for the reply :)

          @nuchalis:

it's actually "only" ~$213 more taking into account cashrewards ><

but anyway, hope you got it from ebay!

        • @CVonV: No, they sold out again before I could complete my purchase! I'll keep an eye out tonight :)

hopefully it resurrects before midnight.. goodluck mate. watch it like a hawk!

its about maximising profits …. and you do that by drip feeding tech …. a new player would need to enter the market and upset the status quo before these guys will change

we could all be driving electric cars but that will upset the oil market and why do that when there is still so much money to be made.

  • This or alienware alpha
    For casual gamer?

    • +2

alpha will be better for gaming.. but it's not a laptop……

      • Yup. not really need a laptop or a desktop
As long it still can be used for general pc task and casual gaming

      • +1

Also noticed that Dell arent doing the i3 alpha on their store. Picked one up a few weekes ago with the UK voucher from Ebay and its been fantastic. Dont pay the extra for i5/i7 as the base model can be upgraded for much less.

So long as steam is the main purpose - the machine works great and with hopefully a new front end coming out soon will be even better.

  • Is this one a good deal? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toshiba-Satellite-L50t-A01R-15-6-…

quad core and touch screen, a bit better gpu than 260

  • Pretty average GPU..even the nearly 3 years old 640M GPU seen in <$1000 laptops is onpar with the M260 (2014)

    • I hear the integrated Intel HD 6000 matches this gpu

  • It is still in stock at 07:11pm on Monday evening 29 June 2015. Can be picked up from BigW or Woolworths Stores. Select nearby BigW or Woolworths store for collection when placing your order.
