Sony PlayStation TV for $98 at Harvey Norman

130

Not sure if this is already up, was just browsing and found this deal. Seems like a good deal, haven't seen this price for the console at other stores.

It's a discounted price. I saw the Dick Smith special yesterday and compared prices. Harvey Norman had it for $148.

Just because everyone is discounting it doesn't mean that it's the normal price. By that logic one could argue that $19-$29 is the normal price for the Lumia 530.

Edit: Latest update on StaticICE done today still shows the price as $148. They've just brought their price in line with other retailers which often happens when there is a deal going on. Probably done to save them the hassle of having to manually price match. Easier just to lower the price and be done with it.

Jb had/has it at $149.99. Recently though in the USA they've been selling them new (console only) at $40 USD delivered.
they also had them bundled with a 4gb mem card and ps3 controller for $60 USD delivered. I'm just waiting for them to get that low here.
Honestly this whole Vita tv things an awful mess with certain games not working which is fine but whats not fine is that each regions game carts and digital games may or may not work. IE in japan a game will work on PTV but in USA or EU it won't. The inconsistency and no official source make it an absolute mess.

    • Where is it $40 and $60 USD delivered? The controller bundle is almost $150 AUD posted on Amazon.

It was only free delivery in the US. With delivery costs to Australia it came very close to costing as much as locally.

Not only that, but netflix and youtube don't work on it!

      • Thanks man.. Was just thinking about buying one for the netflix function alone!

        • Have you heard of the chromecast? Cheaper and you just need a phone or tablet to controller the chromecast.

        • +1

Yea, it's frustrating, a device with so much potential.

I was planning to use it for all the PS Vita games I get from PSN Plus, but only a hand full of those are compatible.

Netflix and youtube apps are downloadable, but don't work, and there's no word on when (if ever) they will work.

And finally the storage prices are astronomical compared to microsd cards

          @ProjectZero:
          Chromecast is great!
only thing that sucks is when certain apps haven't added it in yet or don't exist.
(looking at you major tv channels in AUS)

        • @Scaregdearimasu: lol fair enough, you could always cast it from a laptop using chrome browser. It's another option I think. Personally don't watch TV much anymore so I wouldn't know.

        • @ProjectZero:
Yea thats an option. It's still pretty choppy though (I consider it unwatchable. Dunno if I put my pc on lan if that'd fix it or not since chromecast is wifi only.)
I don't necessarily watch TV anymore either. The free options from TENplay website (on my tablet the video file is castable) and the ABC iveiw app on my tv (Iveiw android app still in beta for chromcast going on at least 6 months so far DX) and SBS app on my tv are enough till I decide to pay for netflix eventually.

        • @Scaregdearimasu: chromecast app allows for casting your screen and sound for some devices, could try that

This device gets about as much love as the PS Vita

What do you expect sony's not marketing it anymore not even as a ps4 streamer which is what it got downgraded to basically.
That and their proprietary over priced memory card bs isn't helping.
Also I don't even think sony them selves are making any games for it this year so only third party.
But if you Love JPRG's it's got a lot going for it.

  • Do these work with PS3 or is it for PS4 only?

    • ps3 has like three games you can stream, ps4 I think should be everything?
don't quote me on that some one with a ps4 please verify?

    • If you are talking about Remote Play from a PS3-> Vita, hardly any PS3 games supported it in the first place.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_Play#Software_compatibi…

Wikipedia doesn't mention PS3-> PS TV, and a quick search shows a lot of uncertainty.

Does anyone have a PS3 + PS TV, and have tried using remote play via the two?

      • Haven't tried PS3->PSTV but have tried to Vita. Played tokyo jungle, a bit laggy.
If your considering doing the Ps3-PTV or PS4-PTV wirelessly just don't it's bad (unless your playing a game where lag doesn't matter SRPGS come to mind).
Might be acceptable if you did it through Ethernet on the PTV and console though.

        • Heh. I've tried PS3 + PlayTV -> Vita. Works pretty good. It's great for watching TV in bed. Not that this helps with the current discussion, but I thought I'd mention it.

Wait… so by doing that, does that mean I can hook the Vita TV up and stream TV from my PS3 to my Vita TV? Because that's something I'd absolutely want to do!

        • @flaminglemon:
If it works for your normal vita it should work for the PS TV. Maybe try googling to see if anyone else got it to work. TBH I didn't even know Playtv worked on normal vita or that anyone actually liked it (I heard it was awful).

        • @Scaregdearimasu:

I hope the ppl that picked it up for $11 liked it

        • @Curiosity: Yup, thats where I got mine =)

  • $98 for one of the most poorly thought out video game hardware releases in history. Bargain! Seriously would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the meetings at Sony where they gave this the green light.

    • Sony copied this concept from Nintendo - they were the first one to release similar device.
So they got the green light in Japan

  • 15% off at DSE (limited time) - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/200919

    edit - nvm, excludes consoles

    • It might work. It is in the Accessories section.

    • It actually works on the PS TV.

nice! … but i think i will wait for the price to fall further AND for the functionality to increase.

the official price is suppose to have fallen 50% in the US/EU … and there was a sale for $40USD … so i expect it to eventually fall here … and if it doesn't .. no big lost.

  • I bought this a few weeks after release for the purpose of streaming my PS4 in another bedroom.
Sony have done a few firmware upgrades to attempt to increase the framerates and the quality of the image.
The one thing that has irritated me is that there is some latency with controller inputs. For example in NBA 2k15 or Fifa you were always shooting too strong or too late.
I know that I can get a better quality picture and gameplay experience by just moving my PS4 so unfortunately the PS TV is gathering dust.
A word of warning for any potential buyers out there.
